  1. "And the inning ends with Julien left aboard." I think we need to get used to this phrasing for the coming few seasons.
  2. That's a new one on me. Why is a mnemonic needed for that particular word? Was the US defense department hard at work on acronyms at some point and decided this was required?
  3. I am terrible at trivia quizes, but youngest son Cashbury (or whatever his elder brother Bashbury currently calls him in TD context) pretty regularly aces it. He derives some pleasure in getting a good rarity score, or whatever it's called. when Twins are involved. He was pretty proud today of this one: (scroll away quick if you don't want to be spoiled) am-Say uld-Fay. Good for him.
  4. Dream on, my friend. I doubt the information exists that will make you feel better, is explainable, or guides you in buying a ticket. The information they would share would be just that much more inscrutable.
  5. Even better. So, just do it, dagnabbit.
  6. With 66 games to do it in. Run the table, win the division crown, with a game to spare!
  7. Whew, that's about 180 degrees opposite of my little anecdote, not that my anecdote has any direct bearing. The information my customer was asking was difficult to obtain and I was seeking help to unearth it, in I suppose a spirit of "the customer is always right", only to have my perspective turned around to what was an equally important question. I don't expect further and further layers of information about Buxton to be damning, merely quantities of conflicting and uncertain medical data, coming back to "well, this might work, or it might not," from professionals with considerable experience in such matters. Medicine is not an exact science.
  8. Lane Thomas is having a career year at bat. He seems below average on defense, so if he regresses even a little he's basically Kyle Garlick, a bat on the short end of the platoon; there's a reason lefty corner bats predominate. I would not give up assets to get him.
  9. Mid-career I got this advice from a boss, when seeking help in a customer support situation: "what would they do with that information if you gave it to them?" I was stuck for an answer, and never forgot it. This "fan support situation" feels the same to me. Sure, I'd like to know more, but what would I really do with the information if I had it?
  10. Next headline for Randballs Stu: "Weird Commentator Calls Twins Weird." The capsule summary (I don't subscribe so I can't see the full exposition) seems to nail the dilemma for the Twins FO though.
  11. Not being someone the FO is constantly looking to replace is some form of security. At present he's not going to lead the team anywhere, but it's not urgent to replace him either. Many aspiring players would dream of doing so well. I think of Eduardo Escobar, who developed some significant pop during his tenure in a similar role. He got too good, in fact, and we had to part ways via a (productive) trade when he approached free agency time. That's Castro's upside, to me. That is still not "long-term" in the way that Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee are viewed as prospects, or Joe Ryan and Pablo Lopez and Bailey Ober are. Players who stand to end up with a half-decade or more as full-load contributors.
  12. A lot of Willi Castro's current value is that he has a minor league option remaining, and has insufficient service time (3+ years at present) to refuse an assignment. Gordon by contrast can't be sent down, neither can the older veterans. Roster flexibility for the AAAA type of player makes someone less dispensable. If you view a couple of years as "long-term plans" then yes Castro has made it. As soon as he can't be sent down, and scuffles for a couple of months, he falls out of the plans. He needs to find one more tweak to his offense to make me think more highly of him than that. It could happen.
  13. My hope, based on nothing really, is that surgeons tend to be conservative, and the so-called "cleanup" involved some judgment and given the results another procedure which will be a little more aggressive is planned for as soon as the season is over. If so, it's still just a hope that it works. Something is terribly wrong at present.
  14. Call up Ronny Henriquez (listed at 5'10" 155 lbs) from St Paul for special duty.
  15. Odds of our being sellers at the deadline may have gone way down tonight. This game will buy certain pla-... wait, Gallo struck out 3 times tonight. Never mind.
  16. Carlos Correa: "May I interest you in a combination policy?"
