  1. I'm confident that it's more complicated than "simply stopped swinging", but it's nice to see recognition for the good results at the plate these first few weeks.
  2. After having GMed for dozens of seasons1, I can state with confidence that I would have done much better with this team than Terry Ryan has. When, for instance, is the last time he fleeced another GM by trading 5 marginal prospects for someone's number one draft pick? 1 Out of the Park Baseball, I have a 2014 season underway now
  3. "Oi',m losing in the eighth, Oi am. Losing in the eighth Oi am Oi am." Hope not, though.
  4. I like the idea, but not enough to buy you a steak dinner. Hit up crarko though.
  5. Tom Kelly is associated with that quote (no doubt there are others), and my understanding is that he would say it when discussing some phenom with good early stats who hadn't yet gotten a full season of pitcher-batter-pitcher-batter adjustments under his belt. The converse that you have to let a questionable bat get 1000 PA was not meant as a corollary, again as I understand the quote. That said, I do want Hicks to get his 1000 PA.
  6. Too bad nobody had the foresight to save Knobby's career by moving him to second base.
  7. I hope you are at least enjoying the Twins.
  8. With mom and dad as a Sickles High School senior:
  9. Here is a video compilation of him batting in the Arizona Fall League this past season: [video=youtube;Xp_8M2XCbZA]
  10. Adopt-A-Prospect page for Kenny Wilson April 24, 2014: The Twins have claimed outfielder Kenny Wilson off waivers from the Blue Jays ... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/04/twins-claim-kenny-wilson-from-blue-jays.html He has been assigned to AA New Britain. Player: Kenneth Earl Wilson Jr. Twitter: @ItsKennyWilson Born: 01/30/1990 (24) Birthplace: Tampa, FL Height: 5’11" Weight: 195 Position: CF Bats: R Throws: R Drafted: 2008, Blue Jays, 2nd round (#63 overall) BA Prospect Ranking: #22 in Blue Jays organization 2014 Kenny was a switch hitter but gave it up starting in 2012. Until that change his batting average at various minor league levels had fluctuated in the .200-.210 range, while afterward it took a jump to the .260-.270 range. He walks enough to tack on around .080-.100 for his OBP, most years. He has had good success stealing bases, registering them at a rate of 40+ per season. He is strikeout prone, racking up 100+ per season. Unfortunately this is not compensated by home run power, nor does he hit particularly many doubles and triples. On the defensive side, he has played the vast majority of his time in CF. Presumably this means his D has been acceptable for that critical position; this article from a few years ago describes him as well above average but I suspect that, like all the children at Lake Wobegon, most center fielders are. He spent some time with injuries in 2011 (torn labrum) and 2013 (shin stress fracture); but he was healthy enough to go to the Arizona Fall League in 2013, and then the Jays added him to their 40-man roster to avoid exposing him to the Rule 5 draft. Baseball-reference.com lists him as Kenneth E. Wilson, but in this article he mentions his father as Kenneth Earl Wilson Sr. So I am going out on a limb and attaching the full name with Jr. to him.
  11. Both, I think. Lip synching to themselves for the camera.
  12. In case I was unclear, I was responding to someone who was in disagreement with you. I think you and I are on pretty close to the same page.
  13. A little kiss blown to the older fans, at the end: "now that's some Sweet Music".
  14. You've been exposed to Marketing people, haven't you?
  15. We could ask Stew but I bet every scorekeeper in the league would call it the same way. Doesn't mean we have to like it, but errors don't get called the way that would be meaningful anymore.
  16. With a LF/RF/1B/DH laden roster, the fact that a catcher is your defensive replacement in RF kind of says it all.
  17. "Just outside the reach of the normally sure-handed Florimon", according to Bert. While the replay shows the ball just missing the heel of the glove.
  18. Has to be two outs with someone on base.
  19. Thank you, your post corrected that. I'd be jinxing it again by pointing that out, except that I am noting it in advance which, by the rules of Jinxology, negates the effect. Or, at least by this point I have lost count.
  20. You were doing great until this explanation resulted in a triple jinx.
  21. On a similar note, if Florimon pops up four times in a game and it's fielded by the 1b, 2b, ss and 3b, does Elias give him credit for hitting for the cycle?
