Article: Twins to Retire Mauer's No. 7: Who's Next?
BobAzar replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Exactly what my wife and I were talking about last night. Its not like Joe is moving out of MN anytime, so no rush to get it done before he moves south. The only games that will be even close to sell outs will be Opening Day and now, whatever day they do this ceremony. Even the announcement seemed a little rushed, why do it the week before Xmas? why not wait until the 2nd week of Jan, when theres nothing going on, and itll get more people excited for Twinsfest. All that being said, Joe deserves this, and if he is ok with it being this season, great.- 58 replies

Article: Welcome to the New School
BobAzar replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I expect there to be a pretty steep learning curve this season, so Im not expecting much in early 2019, but hopefully they have a good finish to the season and 2020 we are truly competitive. I dont look forward to our first losing streak and all the old-school nay-sayers talking about how this approach doesnt work. -
The clear bag policy makes me angry for a few reasons 1. I have 2 kids, 4 and 1 (during the 2019 season), and I need snacks and toys and books for the 4 year old to occupy him in between TC pregame and the mascot race and the "baseball song". And I need diapers, bottles, etc for the 1 year old. hard to fit all that in arbitrarily small bag. 2. As someone mentioned, sometimes you need to bring hats, gloves, blankets for games. 3. MNUFC has the clear bag policy, and THEY STILL GO THROUGH THE BAGS with their little wooden dowel, so it doesn't speed anything up. (at least MNUFC had the sense to give their STH a bag with their tickets, so it wasnt seen as another profit opportunity.) 4. Like many others said, this is discriminatory against a large number of people. 5. I dont believe the "This is the world we live in now" argument. All I'll say about that is, there are other ways to protect the populace that don't involve clear PVC bags.

My father-in-law, who was a minor league ump for years in the 60s and 70s, and a STH since '88. Who sounds like Bert, Jack Morris, and John Smoltz when it comes to the modern game will surely hate this hire. Just like he hated the Rocco hire, and every move Falvey-Levine have made. like Chief said in both threads: They certainly are certainly going all in with their philosophy for the team. I hope it works out.

Im curious when you guys start working on it. It has to be a ton of work, and to get it out during the WS is pretty impressive. -

Article: Final Week Of The Mauer Era? Let's Enjoy It
BobAzar replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is my theory: he knows what hes going to do, which I think is retire. He will tell Molitor before the last series (but probably not teammates). When (not if), he gets on base on 9/30, he is pulled for a pinch runner (like VMart). He gets a standing O. Mauer doesnt want a big farewell tour or big fanfare, but he understands that the fans want their chance to say goodbye and thanks. Or I could be 100% wrong. who knows.- 41 replies

On the radio pregame Cory asked Molitor about the sliding thing. Molitor's response was basically: if you practice sliding you over think and it wont be as natural, and they hoped his baseball instincts would take over in a game and a slide would be fine. not excusing it or agreeing with the reasoning, just saying what the manager said.

Article: KC 4, MIN 1: Good, Great, GRAND, WONDERFUL!
BobAzar replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was at this game with my 3 1/2 year old son. He wanted to go home around the 6-7th inning (I dont blame him), but I kept telling him that something is happening in this game that has only happened about 20 times in the history of baseball, so we would be staying. He was not impressed. And after the hit, when everyone cheered, he yelled "WE WON!". I didnt tell him otherwise, we left after the hit.- 13 replies

Had I answered before the FO move (or non-move) with Buxton, I would have said they could come to an agreement for a 1-2 year so Mauer can keep playing for the only team he should ever play for. But now, this FO has shown they will make purely business decisions, so I can see them saying "No thanks, you want to keep playing, find another team".

Fox Sports North Falsehoods of 2018's First Half
BobAzar commented on Miles Death's blog entry in Thome the Moneyball
I dont mind Dick that much, depending on who he is working with. With Bert, he is pretty bad. With Jack, hes awful. With Latroy and Justin, hes pretty good. He definitely can change depending on his partner. -

Article: BREAKING NEWS: Jason Castro Out for the Year
BobAzar replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have to disagree with this. I suspect they used general anesthesia rather than some sort of block. They most definitely discussed the possibility of worse damage than was seen, and the need for complete repair and the timeline for that. In fact, they would need to talk to him about this possibility before hand to get consent for the full repair rather than what was planned. And after he woke up, they told him "unfortunately it was worse than we thought..."- 75 replies

Article: Into the Sunset: Ichiro Against the Twins
BobAzar replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What I think I liked best (besides the insane baseball skill) was the fact that he learned Spanish just so he could trash talk the Latino players when he was on base. I have no idea if this is actually true or not, but I heard a story about a rookie coming into the mariners clubhouse and came over to Ichiro to introduce himself. Ichiro was at his locker getting ready for the game. when the rookie came over, Ichiro looked up, straight faced and said "What the **** do you want?". The rookie freaked out, trying to apologize, then Ichiro just smiled and started to laugh, and gave him a warm welcome. He seemed like a really cool guy, and a no-doubt 1st ballot HOFer. Im glad I was able to see him play in person a few times. -
2,000 Words on Joe Mauer to Celebrate 2,000 Hits
BobAzar replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I admit I was one of the nay-sayers for years, mainly after the bilateral leg weakness and concussion. Looking back, I feel awful about my feelings towards Joe. He obviously wasnt 100% for a long time, and last year he showed he can still play incredibly well. I can admit my mistakes, and I am going to appreciate watching one of the greatest players in franchise history play the game. I was at the game in 2006 when he clinched the batting title and the game last night. It was pretty cool to see those moments in person and be able to appreciate his skills. Now, like Nick, I played against Joe in HS, and my team didnt make state until he graduated, so no matter what there will always be a little grudge held. PS Thanks for the great article Nick -
Mine: Joe Mauer will contend for, but not necessarily win, the batting title. My wife's: Twins make the playoffs, and finally beat the Yankees in a playoff series

Article: Modern Era Ballot Full Of Flaws
BobAzar replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I used to think that Morris belonged, I knew I was biased from '91, but after reading this book, I changed my mind. The number just arent there for him. If you havent read it, get it, its great. https://www.amazon.com/Cooperstown-Casebook-Baseball-Should-Plaques/dp/1250071216/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510147596&sr=8-1&keywords=jay+jaffe&dpID=512EVpuzlKL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch- 40 replies
