  1. Dick Bremer can frequently show replays of Ben Revere rolling over himself going from 2nd to 3rd. I mean, more often than he already did.
  2. You make some solid points about pitchers' mentality, but I'm not seeing the connection to Correia. TR says Correia is better than his numbers suggest, implying that KC's got those intangibles you speak of. But if he does have that competitive drive and bulldog mentality that Pavano was praised for, why hasn't it helped him pitch 200 innings once?
  3. Found it. Frustrated Carl Pavano will not pitch again for Twins this season | 1500 ESPN Twin Cities ? Minnesota Sports News & Opinion (Twins, Vikings, Wolves, Wild, Gophers) | Sportswire: Minnesota Twins Carl didn't sound too pleased. I'm guessing that there were other issues beyond the head trainer.
  4. It could have something to do with Pavano being unhappy at how his shoulder injury was addressed by the Twins medical staff.
  5. The "he's a little bit better than a fifth starter" line is so sad it's almost funny. Especially considering Correia wasn't even in the Pirates' top 5.
  6. Totally. I think this whole idea of expecting big things in 2016 is ridiculous and asinine. We have no idea what kinds of factors could come about in the mean time, positive and negative, that could completely derail that idea. We haven't been used to this kind of losing streak with this team for a while, but I bet that every year some baseball wonk writes an article about how the Royals sure look good on paper in 2012...2013....2014... ad infinitum.
  7. Probably Gibson, maybe Hicks. When you say "biggest impact" I presume you mean positive impact. This got me to thinking - which Twins rookie had the biggest impact in 2012?
  8. Seems pretty asinine to me to put together a Twins 2016 roster at this point. They've got some good prospects who should be up by then, but some won't pan out, and others may be traded. It looks like 2013 is (unofficially) being punted. If the Twins were to somehow reach .500 this year, who's to say they won't pick up a decent free agent at a position of need? If they wind up closer than they think, they're not going to kick the can down the road to 2016 just to wait for prospects.
  9. No, Cuddyer has pretty much always been a bad RF. We liked to talk up his throwing arm, but outside of that he was basically stationary out there. That's not to say I think the 2013 outfield defense will be good. I'm more concerned about balls scooting through the infield or flying over the wall, though.
  10. Four outfielders. Pick one of the three I have in CF and then another bench outfielder. And... Young and Cuddyer are a DH and a 1B, and we lived with that for two seasons at TF.
  11. This is all assuming that the Twins, in the next 4 years, will make no trades for major league players and won't sign any helpful free agents. Waiting patiently for the roster to be completely turned over to in-house options that may or may not pan out. The team's been bad the last two years, but this is the AL Central and there's even another wild card now. Isn't it possible that with a couple key free agent additions, even the 2013 Twins could compete? What if Arcia, Hicks, Hendriks, or Gibson (pick one) takes a big step forward in the next year or two?
  12. Outfield defense is way down my list of priorities that need an upgrade. Is Willingham-Mastro/Benson/Hicks-Parmelee a worse alignment than Young-Span-Cuddyer?
  13. Why rush our prospects? Let's shoot for 2020. But seriously, I will be pretty unhappy with this organization if it takes them 4 years to get back into "contention" in the AL Central.
  14. No. I also can't guarantee that the Twins will want to sign Hicks to an extension.
  15. I don't think anybody is in love with Saunders. He does have a couple things, IMO, over Correia. He's been (somewhat) more durable than Correia, and given that he's pitched quite a bit in the AL we don't have to worry as much about stat inflation coming over from a career in the NL.
  16. I was going to make this same point. Gibson is already at his prime years, and probably would have been up early last season if it wasn't for the elbow injury. We were willing to burn a year of team control then, why not now? If he's going to be on a 140 inning limit, what's the point of burning a bunch of those innings at AAA?
  17. I guess I thought when the Twins signed Doumit to that extension late last season it meant they weren't going to trade him any time soon.
  18. I think he's definitely good enough to be a backup, and potentially good enough to start for a team desperate for a catcher. I don't want him to come up and play in one-in-four games, but you suggested that the Twins might bring up Hermann to replace Butera at some point. In which case, he'd be playing in one-in-four games. Realistically I think the Twins are going to look to trade Hermann.
  19. My point is that the Twins don't want Hermann to take Butera's role. If the job is start 40 games, get less than 200 ABs, and the rest of the time sit on the bench in case someone gets hurt, there's no reason Hermann couldn't do that right now. But the Twins know that Hermann is good enough to be a second catcher, maybe even a starting catcher on some teams. He's more valuable to teams that don't have a Mauer and a Doumit in front of him for playing time.
  20. Don't you think Hermann is ready to take on the emergency catcher role now? Personally I think the Twins love Butera for some reason, and Hermann will be traded before he supplants Butera.
  21. Not sure how Perkins is one of their top 4 question marks. Were we any more comfortable the last two seasons with Matt Capps?
  22. 1. All-star form, maybe, but Morneau won't be an all-star in the same league as Pujols and Fielder. 2. Good enough. 3. Get stuck in Gardy's doghouse and replaced. 4. AA New Britain.
  23. Doumit started 59 games at catcher last season, Butera started 41. That would indicate to me that the emergency catcher is Butera.
  24. Who would Hermann be backing up in 2014? Mauer and Doumit? Hermann ought to be ready to be a 3rd string catcher and sit on the bench all the time like Butera does.
  25. I hope TR's previous comments about having enough options in the middle infield are comparable to the "we're comfortable with a Buscher/Harris platoon" comments before signing Joe Crede.
