  1. Should the Twins look to bring in a CF, or should they stand pat with Hicks and/or Schafer?
  2. The only thing more predictable than fans complaining that the Twins are cheap is Phil Mackey complaining about fans complaining that the Twins are cheap. For a guy who says he's sick of that line he sure brings it up a lot.
  3. I think Brett Anderson is damaged goods and I wouldn't count on any meaningful contributions from him.
  4. It wouldn't be an offseason without the Twins bringing in an aging starter from the NL to eat innings.
  5. I don't hate this. Considering we had Arcia and Willingham in the corners last year this couldn't be worse than that... but I would like to see them pick up a very good defensive CF like Bourjos at least until Buxton is up. As for the money, I really don't care how they choose to spend 10.5 mil as long as it isn't used as an excuse to not improve elsewhere.
  6. I keep hearing about Dozier's defense... if you believe in defensive metrics at all, his defense is actually below average.
  7. I might get blasted for this idea, but I would consider trading Dozier right now for a pitcher or a left fielder. I know that Dozier is something of a fan favorite, but IMO the Twins get a little too sentimental about "their guys" and have failed to strike trades when the iron was hot. Considering what the A's just got for Donaldson I think the return could be pretty good. I would also feel pretty comfortable with Escobar taking over at 2nd base, and to be honest I think Dozier's offense is less than sustainable and his defense is flashy but not as good as advertised overall.
  8. I must admit that the fresh new coaching staff looks a bit more familiar than I was expecting. If you thought the Twins were too insular before, they haven't done a whole lot to dissuade that notion.
  9. I certainly hope the Twins don't give Pena one of those minor league deals with a *wink* like they gave Kubel last year.
  10. Pena isn't even really an outfielder. I think this means that the Twins aren't counting on much from Vargas.
  11. I don't hate the idea of trading for Buehrle. Yeah he's owed a lot of money, but it's only a one year commitment, and I don't really care how the Twins spend their 19 million anyway. It probably wouldn't take much of a prospect either.
  12. It takes a special kind of player to flop on the level of Aaron Hicks. It seems to me like bad policy to expect the worst case scenario out of every prospect that might be promoted too early.
  13. Not saying Rosario is my top choice, but if the other options are the remains of Torii or Alex Rios, of whom I've never been a fan, I say roll with it, baby. Santana wasn't ready last year.
  14. I'd be fine with Masterson. Hunter and Rios don't do anything for me and I'd just as soon put Rosario in left field.
  15. Whoever the next Hughes is, it seems doubtful the Twins will be the ones to hit on them. They got very lucky with Hughes and we've seen just how difficult it can be to cash in big on a buy-low pitcher. I do think Masterson is a solid bet, but I want Meyer up ASAP.
  16. Mauer was held out of the last home series because of a bruised elbow from being hit by a pitch.
  17. Just saying that the pitch count thing wasn't just a Gardy/Andy philosophy. It goes all the way down the Twins minor league system, too- the manager makes the pitching changes during the game, but he's under pressure from the FO to be extremely careful with his starters, especially the young ones. That's why I don't think a pitch count opponent like Blyleven or Morris would get the job.
  18. I think you're dreaming if you think Blyleven or Morris will be the pitching coach- there would be serious concerns from the FO that those guys wouldn't do enough to protect the team's investments.
  19. I wonder what this means for the coaches left blowing in the wind, specifically Steiny, Bruno, and Cuellar.
  20. What the Royals really should have done is got a hit or two off of Bumgarner. Or bunt.
  21. He was amazing. Let me throw this molotov cocktail into the room - Alex Meyer is five months younger than Madison Bumgarner, who has been in the majors now since 2009. *covers head and runs like hell*
  22. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take... and the prom queen isn't going to ask you out. (that is to say, the royal "you," not you specifically :v)
  23. And even if there is a list of teams that Maddon's camp has reached out to, which I've never seen, there's no telling whether or not it's complete or even accurate. If Maddon's people had been gauging interest between some teams, it's probably the same people "close to Maddon" in the story I linked to above who said he'd love to talk to the Twins.
  24. There's conflicting reports on whether or not Maddon gave the Twins the cold shoulder. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/280384252.html "...Maddon is interested in speaking with the Twins, according to a person close to the two-time American League Manager of the Year."
  25. Saying "Maddon wasn't interested anyway" is just sour grapes on the part of Twins Territory. What does it hurt to call his agent and hear it straight from the source?
