  1. I get your point, but perceptions and reputations are developed based on the sum total of input we get from observation, comments that are made or not made. We know Mauer and what he is all about. Good and bad, but more good than bad when it comes to work ethic. Sano has had success, but perception indicates it's built more on talent and ability than him continuing to develop skills.
  2. I missed this before my post, but watch him during BP. He seems to be laughing it up as much as he is really working the process.
  3. My bigger concern is that I don't get the impression that he is interested in improving his craft of hitting the ball, unlike a Jim Thome that worked at improving through the end of his career.
  4. Consider this reader disappointed that this isn't a vintage jersey/classic pic thread to match the number countdown.
  5. This is starting to feel like the Glenn Perkins narrative. "Feeling great"; "Playing catch", "on the mound", "in the pen"..."turns out he had a setback three weeks ago so the trainers are being cautious"....wash, rinse, repeat.
  6. With the passage of time the tone on dumping Sano after the alleged assault sure has softened here.
  7. So far I would say they have been "competent", but I'm not willing to give them much beyond that. They are just doing what was pretty obvious that needed to be done while the prior regime sat stuck in the "Twins Way." Shrewd would imply that they have somehow done something that no one was expecting, and superior to other orgs, and at this point I don't see enough to substantiate that. Sorry, but the OP is going to be favorable to the FO, and this sentence that we are dwelling on was just another example of that.
  8. What is it they've done to demonstrate they have outsmarted anyone? I believe that would be the definition of "shrewd".
  9. The word "shrewd" is a bit of a stretch at this point.
  10. Well I did miss Gladden circling back, and I took his reaction and transferred it in part to mine. I get what's being said here, but I think there is an arrogance that has crept into the vernacular of way too many of these guys that are getting paid a king's ransom to play a child's game.
  11. This. But in fairness to the teams and their broadcast contracts and advertisers it should be phased in over a number of years. And drop the ridiculous National TV extra commercial time. Again, though, phased in to preserve the existing contracts.
  12. Pretty much this. The FO seems ready to move to the next generation, and flip him at the deadline for younger talent.
  13. At least one person here seems to get it. This is a team culture issue. Say stuff like this when you've won a world championship.
  14. This is the first I've heard of the six visit rule. Does anyone know what the basis for six visits was? Is this average? Below average from recent years? It seems plenty generous in my opinion.
  15. There is no way these guys are working out against MLB level pitching.
  16. It says something, though, that there isn't a list of "stupid things you don't say when talking to the radio guy".
  17. During today's radio/TV simulcast Gladden and Provus were bantering about getting at bats. Apparently Robbie Grossman told Gladden he only needs ten at bats to prepare for the season. It was left to lie without much discussion. If this is true, Molitor is failing the culture of work ethic that Gardy let slip so badly, and Robbie should be on a bus to Rochester when the club heads North.
  18. .........missing the point..........
  19. This thread feels like the time Nick tried to defend calling Orlando Hudson a "Gold Glove Calibur" second baseman.
  20. Even better for you and I, I would expect that we will need to buy a ticket other than the season ticket we already bought in order to qualify for the special Star Wars T shirt!
  21. As for Dozier's pace of game comments, the player's union has demonstrated clearly that they know the desire of the league to speed up games, and that they are apparently not willing or capable to do what it takes to make it happen on their own.
  22. That Dozier comment sounds much more refined than when he was whining to reporters about the org not extending him before the season starts.
  23. 1. I didn't even know there was a blog here. I consider this a message board only. 2. Get some more prominent negative voices. I only scan the original articles in the threads and consider them to mostly be defending the FO and constantly optimistic. Then I read the comments for dissenting voices because I find it far more interesting.
  24. Sigh. The fan base at large is hungry for names they have heard of somewhere someplace. Unfortunately this name fits that bill, and not many others.
