  1. he does have 2 option years remaining....so you dont have to DFA him. Its just that is not how MN runs its organization.
  2. I get it.....he's 19 yrs old but he's too good for APP Lg after 10gms. He may have to DH/split 3B w/Sano if sent to Beloit as he has 7e's, but his bat needs more challenges as a first round pick should be challenged. He should be promoted as he earns it, not promoted as his age dictates....Only 5months older than Sano, see if he can handle it 16/38 .421/.467/.579 w/3doubles hr 4rbi 7bb 4k
  3. Who are the Twins kidding.....promote the kid to a league where he can be judged 4-5 SAT hitting for the cycle w/4rbi 14/42 for season .333/.440/.810 2doubles 6triples 2hr 14rbi 12 runs 8k 8bb 5e's in 10gms quit wasting his time
  4. Exactly. Why give up something (that isnt even close enough) for someone you can get for free (not free in Dec) in offseason. Even if you trade for him, he's goin into FA & see his value....then you lose Span/Parm for nothin.
  5. No question to me that Cole goes down after the game......but 4 starts 21 IP 19h .232BAA 3.43ERA 16K 7bb 1.24WHIP. Regardless of whether you think he has major league stuff...he's been fine. Nick Blackburn is one of the 'good ol boys' with no recourse since coming off the DL (again) in June 5 starts 26IP 36h .321BAA 6.92ERA 10k 8bb 1.69WHIP How can they make the arguement to keep Nick over Cole??? other than money
  6. obviously they got 2 good prospects because they dealt him before July 31 deadline, instead of mid AUG like we did when your hands are kinda tied. Remember, Billy Smith believed we could be the first team in MLB history to come back from 20 games under to get back into the race, so we held onto him. Fact that we finished 36 under shows all you need to know about Billy
  7. but we had too cause he was such a nice guy, we owed it to him..... Teams that actually have won WSeries dont owe anyone but the organization
  8. Hope that Derek hasnt dipped into Daddy's 'special baseball sauce'.....but after 8gms, he looks like a different player. .458/.594/.708 in 24ABs 3 doubles HR 4RBI 6BB 3K 3/5 SBs Be nice to see the 20 year old (too old for GCL IMO) moved up this year ASAP
  9. Salcedo made his first rehab appearance SAT w/GCL Twins pitching a perfect inning with 2Ks. Good news....maybe he can salvage something this yr
  10. Better stated than I did. He does have speed/decent baserunner but a very below average basestealer.
  11. I has heard Phil Mackey on his radio show says that Blackburn was out of options....but couldnt understand how since his only option yr was 2 yrs ago when we sent him out to ROC in late summer & also that he was under 5 yrs. Knew that was correct. Think they will keep him for his starts on Tuesday/Sunday(could skip that one) & that could be his last starts as PJ Walters will have 2/3 rehab start before a 5th starter is needed coming out of the break. Nick or Pavano could be ready for end of July then if/when Frankie is dealt. Not convinced they will send out Cole either as it could be Parmelee with Cole getting a 2nd start if he does well tonight in lew of Nick.
  12. Spans biggest negative for me is his lack of SB speed....which he really never had if you look back. I am extremely happy with his 25 XBH this yr (2nd on club to Josh W)....10th in Lg in doubles w/20. On pace for over 50 & that is excellent. His CF defensive metrics are also outstanding.....with a modest 350 INN to qualify, he's 2nd in majors & first in AL in UZR w/5.4, range w/4.2 & runs saved w/10 (all 2nd to Michael Bourne).....for those that follow defense. Add in his contract, & he should yield a VERY good deal soon.
  13. didnt want to start a new thread on him but.... anyone notice that counting his AAA numbers....he goes over 100IP for the year in todays DH(34.2IP in ROC...64IP in MN). Not that this is amazing or anything, but with the health of our pitchers the last 2 yrs.....nice to see. Counting only MLB numbers...only 14 AL pitchers have his 98.2IP starting today. Ive gone from being a disbeliever ( how can you not be after last yr??) to thinking he can be a solid 2 or 3 style guy. He would also rank 5th in AL with his 2.67 ERA if he qualified (hes gonna have trouble qualifying unless MN lets him get to 200IP total...think they wont let him get that far in Sept....last yrs 162 his high).
  14. Plouffe in his own right is a hard player to predict as he's become a different player in the last 3 yrs vs. his first 4. He has been pretty streaky in his HR phase of his minor league career, but I have no problem with him right now.
  15. Joe Benson experienced pain in the hand on THUR & will take a couple days off. Not good, but they dont think its serious. Reports are that Alex Wimmers could begin throwing within a month. That means they will find out by fall if/when its time for TJ surgery.
  16. No question, but the only data I (we) have to go on. Agree AA is the league to actually judge a player. For MN, Ft Myers is such a great pitchers league....that is hard also, but if you can hit there...... There are 5 players in ELIZ, this yr, who are 19/20 who are right age to judge.....Walker, Harrison, Goodrum, Polonco & Keplar. 21 yr olds are too old & cant be judge there till Beloit.
  17. Do agree with the save situation.....unbelievable that you manage to accumulate stats. Rest I dont have a problem with. Stolen base credits could be a reason that they numbers are down in steals from past decades.
  18. He's next to get a multi yr deal to buy out his arbitration.....or woulda been if Bill Smith was still here.
  19. you cant trade everyone.....Doumit fits an absolute need. Of course, we still need to keep a backup C to keep Gardys nerves settled.
  20. Added the ages cause I think that matters also as MN starts their guys in ELIZ who are too old for that league IMO Stupid error by typing too fast.....knew that but my mistake pretty much no low level minor league numbers can be trusted. Plus you're talking about an extremely small sample of at bats Dont agree as you can start trusting numbers once low A starts.....tried to give most players 100ABs @ ELIZ, but some stood out. Arcia, Rosario & Sano are only ones ,IMO, as they were 18/19yrs old.....but none were even remotelly close to their ELIZ numbers cause the numbers cannot be trusted There is absolutely no reason for a 21 yr old college guy to be in ELIZ for a full yr
  21. organization/fans read FAR too much into his pitching well in game 163 vs CHI. They still talk about it when giving his case that he can recover. He was durable the first 2 yrs & thats it. Durability is defiantely a very good thing, but he still didnt pitch that well in the post steroid era. His contract could go down as one of the worst moves Billy Smith made as it ties up payroll more than Mauer IMO. There is no arguement for keeping him in the majors. He is supposedly out of options (is it he's a 6 yr guy??), so to option him to ROC, we may need to take him off 40 man roster(go thru waivers). Do It. The 8.5m of him/Nishi is killer but with Nishi they showed that money doesnt dictate you get to play in majors if you cannot perform.
  22. IMO, you cannot trust any players till they get to at least Beloit. That Lgs hitting #s are irrelevant. EX 2005 Age 21-Eric Lis 148ABs .315/.356/.577--barely made AAA 2006 21-Steve Singleton 144ABs .340/.368/.556--barely made AAA 21-Danny Valencia 190ABs .311/.365/.505 2007 21-Ozzie Lewis 235ABs .323/.375/.523--gone from org after 1 more yr 20-Deibinson Romero 247ABs .316/.406/.506---stuck in AA 22-Ben Petsch 74ABs .311/.463/.473--gone after 1 more year 2008 20-Jonathon Waltenbury 263ABs .319/.382/.540---gone after 1 more yr 18-Angel Morales 183ABs .301/.413/.623---cannot handle High A pitching 21-Evan Bigley 213ABs .300/.360/.587---3rd yr in AA, finally putting up #s 21-Alex Soto 116ABs .276/.344/.621--gone after 2 more yrs 2009 21-Tyler Ladendorf 61AB .410/.500/.721--stuck in AA after deal to OAK 21-Steve Liddle 50ABs .360/.441/.520---only reason still in org is his dad (MN 3rd base coach) 20-Danny Rams 62ABs .355/.444/.790---cant hit High A 22-Brian Dozier 218ABs .353/.417/.431 20-Josmil Pinto 205ABs .332/.387/.610---stuck in High A, moderate success 21-Paul Michael Klingsbury 100ABs .320/.384/.500---hasnt played since 21-Mike Gonzales 214ABs .304/.364/.477---cant hit High A 21-Chris Hermann 236ABs .297/.391/.453---solid AA prospect 2010 19-Oswaldo Arcia 259ABs .375/.424/.672--solid AA prospect, never close to these numbers tho 21-Nate Roberts 128ABs .336/.444/.547---decent yrs at Beloit 20-Lance Ray 70ABs .314/.360/.414---under .200 @ High A 2011 19-Eddie Rosario 270ABs .337/.397/670---very solid Beloit yr 20-JaDamion Williams 185ABs .324/.406/.465---under .250 in Beloit 20-Kenny Vargas 174ABs .322/.377/.489---suspended 18-Miguel Sano 267ABs .292/.352/.637--sub .240ave but great power in Beloit I didnt nitpick players either....took the highest performers. Also, lookin @ the #s.....nobody that couldnt hit there became anything of note.
  23. Too bad that ELIZs best hitter (Rory Rhodes) has already shown he cant hit Low A pitching
  24. Benson started his rehab with GCL Twins today 0-2 2K...
  25. A solid 8 game stretch for Hicks since coming back from the ankle injury on the 19th. 11/33 1 double 2 triples 1HR 4rbi 8k 3bb 1/2SBs for a .333/.378/.576 line. Overall .298/.389/.468 in 14gms this month w/1double 2triples HR 5RBi 10k 7bb 1/4SBs Now hitting .239/.344/.393 as a lefty w/ 163ABs 4HR 23RBI 46K 28bb......not horrendous.
