  1. Shocked Rick Anderson couldnt get the best out of him
  2. Dont like the play. Not a fan of baserunners takin out the catcher when they give them home plate. Got a feelin MLB may eventually rule against that. Different when the plate is blocked of course.
  3. Yes....i should have said if he doesnt play well. If he can hold his own, hes up. I think Gibson.....if the rehab continues to go well......could be up as he needs to be 40manned this offseason & could use a few innings before AFL.
  4. AA is the new AAA these days.....at least as far as Mn is concerned. More than likely see him in Sept.....hopefully see the 3 in the Of.
  5. Blackburn has a 5.32 ERA since leaving the Metrodome (or since signing his contract). Another HORRIBLE decision from Bill Smith....but sadly what else are you gonna do. The guy is an atrocious pitcher on the team with the worst starting pitching in baseball. Only shot is to deal him in offseason for some other teams horrible contract & hope.
  6. its not just Tonkin, its an overall organizational thinking
  7. I know Hendriks threw 125 pitches last SAT but they gave him 7 days off. If it was ANY other pitcher on 7 days rest, they would be makin excuses for him. They should have started Liam last nite & Liriano tonight. They did him no favors today.
  8. Also goes to Deolis Guerra. He is out of options next yr & must stay on the roster from their out, so why not get him some time to get accustomed....at least this yr, you can re-option him if he's hit hard.
  9. Want to at least acknowledge also that I prefer this 12 man everyday lineup to last yrs with the likes of Chase Lambin, Aaron Bates, Jeff Bailey, Toby Gardenhire, Danny Lehman .....retreads/guys who had no chance to get to big leagues .....as well as guys like 27 yr old Dustin Martin/Brandon Roberts/Steve Singleton, players I personally liked since they came up thru the system.
  10. too bad for him we didnt try to trade for him (did we give up too soon on him, ala Pearce) or that CHI wouldnt deal him to us cause he would be in the rotation right now.
  11. If Parmelee, Benson, Hendriks, DeVries and Dozier were in a different organization, they may not have seen their major league debut yet. dont buy this at all. Benson was a top 100 prospect...Parmellee was a #1 pick and had a solid yr last yr...Hendriks is thought of very highly....Dozier had a great yr @ AA (shoulda been up in Sept).....DeVries I agree. What may show the organziation is troubled (at least they are trying to remedy it) is the waiver claims/minor league FAs they've made (Mastro, Florimon, Komatsu, Burroughs, etc) because they know their own prospects cant cut it. Next 2 levels....bad feeling that only Hermann, Hicks & Arcia are major league players (not counting pitchers) & Hicks is a HUGE maybe.
  12. severely disagree with the numbers. Casilla wont get more than 2m...Duensing/Burton 1.5...Burnett/Butera 900k....that's 6.8m NOT 20m. There will massive amounts of money to spend IF they want to. AGAIN, its not about spending money....but rather to spend it wisely.
  13. DeVries may have re-earned a promotion for next SAT's start....first when they need a 5th starter, but it gives them an awkward 7 days off in between starts. How can Arcia be skipped for the FSL all star game??? Get him to New Brit.....Santana also.
  14. they just cannot part with Jeff Gray can they? Cannot take this organization seriously as long as they keep him
  15. I believe in Dozier & wont give up on him. I would like to see him hit 9th as he has a little bit of extra base power (esp last yr) & would like the nonpower guys(Carroll/Casilla/Buter/Span/Revere) broken up with someone who can pop a double.
  16. Didnt explain my quote well in that most players with very poor walk rates increase them fairly well as they get older. Very few players can survive with that few of walks. Not saying its coming anytime soon, but maybe gets up to 35/40 for a full season.
  17. dont disagree but 185 innings (whats he's played in RF) can be evaluated for what it is. He is #1 in RF for UZR/150gms
  18. Just interesting to me..nothing more Tonight the Red Wings again started a lineup of all ex-big leaguers. They will do this most nights as 11 of the 12 players have MLB experience (Ray Chang the loner). Most of us know that AAA is the AAAA league as few prospects spend much time there. You are usually on the fast-track to the bigs or on the way back down if you cant play. I mentioned this in a thread a few weeks ago & Seth said its pretty common to have that many ex big leaguers. I looked up the INT Lg rosters tonight & while, yes, almost every team features mostly players with MLB time....nobody has more than ROC's 11. Active players only Columbus also has 11...but out of 13 players Scranton Wilkes Barre has 10 out of 13 Buffalo also has 10 out of 13 Indianapolis 10 out of 13 Gwinnett 8 of 14 Lehigh Valley 8 of 13 Durham 8 of 12 Pawtucket 8 of 12 Norfolk 7 of 12 Syracuse 7 of 12 Toledo 6 of 13 Lousville 5 of 11 Charlotte 5 of 11 To me it just shows how depleted the team is with 'ready to go' everyday talent. They already have 2 guys in Benson/Tosoni with MLB experience in AA & nobody other than Chris Hermann who is scratching the door to AAA. Not like anybody is being 'blocked'. It is what it is.....but does anyone else think thats too many guys who havent made it??
  19. thats ok.....our crack scouting staff knows that Luke Baird is gonna be the steal of the draft.....or rather our crackheads in scouting know Baird will tear his UCL in 2014 & we could save money signing him instead
  20. According to fangraphs defensive ratings.....Ben is the 4th best OF so far, & his arm rates out as a positive (hits cutoff guys???). Is gonna need to draw more walks eventually. Cant have 4 this far into the yr. Nitpicking so far.....he's been better than hoped for on the power...just hitting the ball harder.
  21. care to elaborate any more??? Many vet players have opt out clauses of around June 1st.....no idea on Pearce, but maybe the Yanks were gonna lose him & took the cash instead of nothing.
  22. I disagree.....he was injured, no doubt. They decided to go with Bates and keep the guy they had for a year over the guy who was obviously more talented & had major league ability. I assume, from Seth's quote, that Pearce may have been unhappy with the team not allowing him a shot to make the MLB team...over Parmelee/Burroughs. Though he was injured....he also had a track record that should have gotten him to AAA. Maybe he didnt fit the Twins thought process of knowing your role & keeping your mouth shut. Absolutey was an incorrect move. Some minor league signings were very good.....some like this very bad.
  23. TOR is Baseball America's 5th rated farm system but C Travis D'Arnaud is their #1 ( I am adamit about keeping Mauer behind the plate). Id be interested in their #3 guy....OF Jake Marisnick
  24. in the last week, Scranton's 1B Steve Pearce was purchased by BALT and has been starting in the OF. For those that remember, the 1B/3B/OF Pearce was released this spring by MN who instead traded for Matt Rizzotti (deomoted to AA) & kept Aaron Bates (released) to play 1B. Once a highly regarded prospect/former big leaguer (unlike Rizzotti & Bates), he hit .321/.422/.574 in 52gms (190ABs) w/11 HR 30 RBI & 37 runs scored in AAA. Does anyone else feel this kind of move/player evaluation is a general reason why this team's minor league system/general team diesction has been so poor?
  25. again, dont give him away ....... but if there is a legit offer---pull the trigger. Personally, hope to wait for 6wks as his value (provin his health is good) could be the highes then
