  1. I'm okay with trading for a Neshek type if the price is pretty low. A fringe prospect in A ball who profiles as a reliever or a backup position player is fine. Anything more, not interested. I agree that the Twins should just promote from within. There are enough guys who look ready in the next two weeks and then in six weeks that we can ride it out. Time for Belisle to go and maybe Breslow in six weeks or so.
  2. The Angels squeezed with two outs, not the Twins. 9 relief pitchers is a bit of an exaggeration by everyone - one of them is Buesnitz, who is only up for a few days until the Twins call up a starter to replace Santiago. We can argue that eight is too many (it is) but nine is a bit disingenuous.
  3. It's easy to focus on that one play as the way they lost the game but I don't think it's accurate. The Twins had guys in scoring position all night long and couldn't get the job done. Two runs allowed should have been totally fine.
  4. Any concept of why Sam Clay was moved from starter to reliever?
  5. Is Taylor Rogers the third most deserving All-Star for the Twins? It's either him or Berrios. I guess you could throw Kintzler in there if you love saves.
  6. This half inning is going to be long and scary one. Good to get some runs and at least it's the bottom of the Angels order. knocks on wood.
  7. I really like the bunt with a man on second and no outs and our backup catcher up. I don't love it in everyday situations but that's not a bad spot for it.
  8. We don't know it and I never said it for sure would. Just that I trust the people whose job is to help young throwers and they seem to have a consensus that you don't want to move people too quickly. I don't want Romero to throw a significantly larger number of innings as the Twins chase a playoff spot. We should pick up Bartolo Colon. I want to go to the park and cheer for Bartolo Colon.
  9. Well, he has to go back down no matter what so there's nothing he can do to earn a second start. Maybe if he pitched a no-hitter the Twins would feel like they have to bring him back up in a week? Even then it seems unlikely - they're not going to risk wrecking prospects long term for a short term gain.
  10. Does this use an option? Does it count toward his ML service time? I wonder how much he makes being in the majors for one day. Someone probably knows that?
  11. Only issue is that Kepler is left-handed. The real solution is to start working on Grossman at 1B. He's never played it in the minors but you'd have to think he can pick it up. Especially because he'd be the 3rd 1B - the real solution is to drop Vargas, make Sano your 1B against lefties and use Escobar at 3B those games. Grossman would only come in if you need Sano to move to 3B due to injury in the middle infield.
  12. Yeah, I've been saying they should make him a reliever for the past two years but that was more because I thought he'd never make it as a starter, not because I thought he'd be anything more than a second or third lefty depth option. He's been excellent - probably the reliever I believe in the most? I love when he gets to a three ball two strike count, he's not afraid to flash a devastating curve.
  13. And Mauer had some really nice plays at 1B. I know he's not worth $23 million but I'm loving this resurgent season. That scoop yesterday was huge and he did an excellent job getting back to the bag after diving, something that's way harder than it looks. And in other fun news, Mauer and Eric Hosmer are the only two qualified first basemen with no errors. Let's see Hosmer make an error this weekend. At a really important time.
  14. Call me crazy but I'm excited for the Phil Hughes era in the pen. I don't think he's going to jump in as a late inning setup guy but I think he'll bring a nice arm to the middle innings and it's not crazy if he turns into a quality setup man in the next few years if he can get a bit more velocity pitching in shorter stints.
  15. I think more thought has to go into it. You have a big strikeout pitcher on the mound in Sale so if the goal is to get a guy to third, you find yourself with Sale pitching to two guys (buxton and Rosario) who are not particularly tough to strike out. To me, that's the argument against it even in that situation (you're right that close game with runners on is the place that makes sense). You have to have someone coming up who puts the ball in play (they're going to walk Mauer, even with L on L) and that just isn't Buxton or Rosario. And you have to not have Matt Belisle next in from the pen.
  16. And Zach Granite's AAA performance in no way forces the Twins hands. He still profiles as a nice 4th OF (but perhaps not for the twins since he is LH) and a below-average corner OF.
  17. No way they walk Mauer with runners on 1st and 2nd. Mauer is not Trout or someone who that would make sense - you don't move someone up where a wild pitch scores them and you don't put the go ahead run in scoring position. Let Polanco hit with the 2-0 and then you can bring in Mauer. Sacrificing rarely makes sense - outs are at a premium late in a game.
  18. And as I stated, the article is wrong. Chris Gimenez has hit four home runs this year. Check baseball reference.
  19. I know this season the Twins are competitive and our focus should be on that but man, I'm excited for next year. By June you should see all three of these guys pushing for a rotation spot. With May back, Mejia a year older and Berrios and Santana still in the fold, the Twins could have a really nice rotation. And that's not even mentioning the Thorpedo, who seems like a 2018 cup of coffee candidate. I get wanting to push them now and I get that you can't choose when you compete but it seems like a real stretch to push them fast this year. I don't want to see any of them until September 1st, even if that means the Twins fade in the summer heat.
  20. The bunt was a bad idea to begin with but particularly once Sale went 2-0 on Polanco. Let him swing away from there, he's got an advantage and a walk would be killer there. Sale is going to bring something over, let the young guy hit. I will never get saving the catcher. If Castro gets injured, you lose one game you were likely going to lose anyway. And who really worries about something freak happening, especially in this day and age of no collisions at the plate. Belisle. Oh Belisle, time for you to go. The Twins don't have a lot of exciting relievers coming up but someone has to be better than Belisle. I imagine there's a good chance that he reverts to the mean but sometimes it's about accountability. You just have to get rid of fringe guys who don't perform.
  21. Totally different era, hard to compare baseball in the 70s to baseball today. The hitters are better and they have access to way more info. Today's game is about knowing how to pitch, not being good at throwing. I'm not throwing shade at guys in the 70s - just saying that with technology and the extreme professionalization of the sport, it isn't easy to throw an 18 year old into the fire.
  22. They won't pay for games played in another country. That's what the OP was saying and that is categorically false. Ticket prices going up has nothing to do with the two fewer games concept. Walmart raising its price on camping lanterns from $10.99 to $12.99 doesn't mean that you save less with the $2 off coupon. Rising prices have nothing to do with this. You can be upset about ticket prices going up but two games in Puerto Rico has nothing to do with that concept. You can make a really good argument that the Twins got rid of the two games that effect the least number of people - weekday games in early April that are often too cold for most fans and are during the day due to temperature concerns and thus are not available to young fans. There are many reasons to hate the Pohldad's but this is pretty low on the list.
