  1. Thanks Nick. I was very hopeful when Falvey/ Levine came to town. Totally behind Royce Lewis as 1st round pick, liked that they took the iniative at deadline and went after Jamie Gomez. He seemed like a good fit for the Twins (although he wasn't that impressive before or after). I was disappointed when they flip/flopped. 2017 although the Twins had traded Nunez, they still had a lot of depth at SS at least on paper with Escobar, Polanco, Palacio, Gordon, Javier and now Lewis. I was all in favor of trading Gordon back then believing he was overrated and we had plenty of depth. They instead traded Escobar and Palacio. I like TB ability to evaluate players and trade them when they are overrated.
  2. Strange that I thought he played tight end for the Gophers. Winfield is the only athlete that remembered my freshman year. And that he was drafted by the Vikings maybe contributed to that. Thanks Chief for correcting me and that final tidbit.
  3. Great team with great expectations. Sorry to see the Twins give up on Baddoo, Colina and Graterol. Was Wells on that team?
  4. Winfield was a great star when I went to the University of Minn. They had great teams in football, basketball and my favorite baseball. It was a thrill to watch him play. I was proud of him for picking MLB instead of NFL or NBA. Him in a Twin's uniform was fate which topped off his illusterous carreer. We had great HS baseball players back then with Winfield, Morris and Molitor. Winfield did a lot to promote baseball in St. Paul. Fond memories of him.
  5. Gordon has surpassed my expectations in his MLB premier. I noted also that every time he started a new level, he'd have a poor 1st season then later slowly improve. I expected him have very poor rookie season and eventually become an average MLB player. Although I'm not too excited about his upside but who knows he could surprise me there too. He does have value as aTwins utility player
  6. In 2021, I think the biggest health plus is Jorge Polanco, 2019 & 2020 he played hurt and needed surgery both years, Being finally healthy shown big dividends, can't wait for a fully restored & acclimated Polanco for a full 2022.
  7. You brought up an interesting point, Sconnie. Because we have plenty of AAA SS depth with Gordon & Palacio and aquickly advancing Lewis and Martin plus Javier has to be hungry. Or even compitition at utility it seems we have a lot. So what's up with this addition? Only sensible answer is scabbing, Yes we have some possible MLB depth at these positions but all but Palacio are on the 40 man if MLB clubs decide to go with AAA players, Beckham would be our depth. Also we are very shallow at CF, we don't have any true MLB ready CFer, anyone close is on the 40 man. It only makes sense to prioritize seeking out viable true CFers but so far nothing. The Twins are in love with Cave (who is no CFer) and they want no competion for him in that scenario, They'll give him every opportunity to produce some stats that they can cherry pick to pitch at an easily influenced Twins fan base. A strike and MLB clubs playing scabs can not end well. But it seems that the Twins are positioning themselves for that possibilty.
  8. I was thinking about Hicks and the Twins CF dilema. How he had a great minor league history that provoked the Twins to not only trade one but both our MLB CFers (Span & Revere), The Twins had a rich heritage of mentoring CFers Puckett to Hunter to Span to Revere. All that ended, together with the team's importance of CF depth when they traded Span and Revere. Hicks started by tearing up spring training but when regular season came around, he fell into a funk that he never really recovered from as a Twin. Hicks never got that mentoring that his predecessors had and he floundered. IMO back then the coaching left it up to the players to self educate on how to read and research pitchers and Hicks did not have that gift. As you stated Nick we traded away Hicks for a nobody and Hicks developed into a very good CF (I believe NYY was able to provide him w/ the info he needed to become that great hitter). So it made me sad to think of Hicks not developing and staying w/ the Twins, so Buxton didn't have be rushed up and provide that much needed depth for many years. We went from rich in depth at CF (which is a good thing) in 2012 to starving in depth for a decade that we are still facing.
  9. I like what Martin Luther King said that " A man should be judged by the integrity of one's heart not by the color of his skin", Integrity of Buxton's heart is above approach. He's an exceptional man on and off the field. He's overcome many adversities from injuries to coaches who want to fine tune his swing. It's amazing that he wants to stay in Minnesota, Minnesota is blessed to have him. Now that everything is set, I'm looking forward to many years of Buxton gracing us with his presence.
  10. I love Kiriloff's swing and more than likely he got that swing from his Dad. I'd love if the Twins could change their focus of big HRs, HRs, HRs which results in fewer hits more ridiculous SOs and FOs, to a Kiriloff type of swing. Buxton, Polanco, Cruz and Donaldson had their swing down and were not affected with Garver able to make that adjustment and hopefully Sano'. Hopefully Kepler will now make that adjustment. I just think that Dave Kiriloff type would make a better head batting coach for the team as a whole.
  11. I see Gordon as a better utility player, it doesn't look than Beckman isn't any better than Gordon at SS, even worse. Yes we now have more depth but what is that quality of depth. But he has some power, to some that's all that matters. I'd rather Palacio have more time in spring training. IMO it's counter productive even more than Garlic because SS is more crucial. We need a real glove to help out our needy pitching
  12. Looking at the video again, it seems that Kepler is hitting the other way, the way it's looks coming off his bat. Happy that a veteran like Kepler is taking tips from a rookie's Dad. Some seem to think that coaching (whether hitting or pitching, good or bad) has no bearing on veteran's production. Hope this does.
  13. Kepler is one of my favorite Twins and plays well along side Buxton. He had a great juiced ball 2019 season but he's not coming close to those #s especially on BA because of the shift. He might have some improvement if he sticks to RF but I don't see increasing his ABs or moving him around in the order will help. Unless he magically finds a way to increase his distance to compensates for the deader ball or adjusting by going the other way (which goes against the Twins focus), I don't see him getting better. A place like CO would greatly benefit him if the Twins would choose to go that route
  14. I like your article Cody and you stating who could help the most this season. We can't make the same mistake as we did last year, which is depending too much on Cave and non-established prospects. So I don't expect a lot from any of them but at the same time, I hope they make the next step. Realistically, Gordon has established himself more of the 3 and even Larnach, so I expect him to help the Twins more and earlier in 2022 in the utility role. That being said, IMO Gordon has the least upside and he'll have the least impact on the Twin in the more distant future. I really like Rodvedt's defensive and arm, if Garver or Jeffers gets hurt, Rodvedt's defense will benifit the club. IMO his LH bat will eventually come around and he'll become our premier catcher. I really like Celestino and hope he could step up and be our CF sub. But again it's fool hearty to make the same mistake as last year and make him or (heaven forbid) Cave as Plan A. Although Kepler is a better solution, it severely down grade CF & RF. Past assumptions that Buxton is Superman and a viable CF sub is not necessary, has proved be fantasy. Even if healthy Buxton would need a break. Since we don't have an established true CF in the organization to temporary sub, we need to go outside.
  15. For me Story has always been my #1 choice. If not going the Rodon/ Simmons route then IMO a Story route is the only sensible route left.
  16. I was thinking the same thing Nash. I had put in a trade at BTV prior to your article. HOU get Sano BOS get Arraez, Donaldson & Vallimont Twins get Oddorizzi, Bogaerts & Bradley Jr. This trade works out on the board but it still might not fly but I think Oddorizzi is still a good trade prospect.
  17. I don't feel sorry for the Pirates at all. Their problems were their pitchers coaching that Cole and Glasnow criticized extensively.
  18. Intriguing. I'd love to have Glasnow leading our rotation. But I'd rather have someone who can help them this season. Only having him for 1 season and what he'd cost will probably be not worth it especially from TB. Unless I can count on him extending, which I'm almost willing to bet he won't.
  19. Goodrum is uncompelling to me too, what I said it's better than starting Polanco at SS and Arraez at 2B. Us winning back to back division championships had nothing to do with our midfield defense, (it was an clear drawback). In '19 it was the juiced ball and most of our players honing in on that and '20 short season which bode well with our pitchers. There is a clear correlation of Polanco persistently playing SS and his drop in production and increase ankle problems. Only time away from SS in '21 we see his #s returning to expectations. I'm surprised that you don't want to see that. I am unwilling to have Polanco back at SS to see him struggling in defense and his offense spiraling downward and us suffering at 2B. It's a recipe for disaster.
  20. I agree with you that SP is our #1 priority, that is an understatement. But you're understating our need at SS, Polanco cannot be an option at SS for reasons that have been thoroughly debated. I'd rather get Goodrum and have him, Palacio and Lewis fight it it out which by far isn't my 1st option. Arraez best value for us is used in a trade for SP with a team that need him. If FO can't pull the trigger then use him primarily as DH, even give him a shot at 1B or continue him as one 3B back up. But not 2B. I also see a need a dependable backend BP piece and CF back up/ 4th OF. We can't depend that Celestino or Austin will step right in, although I'd love to see that happen.
  21. It's not a matter of giving up on him as it is having an over-abundance of bat 1st players and deficit of frontline MLB ready SPs, CFs and SSs. I agree with Terry that his best value for the team is what he brings in a trade.
  22. I don't think any player should be blamed for a bad 2021 much less Donaldson. Did he live up to expectations? No, but the bar was set pretty high. His poor calves limited him from expressing his fire on the base path and being on the field. The bar that many set for him were MVP, which is still a possibility if they solve his calf problem. I don't know if trading Donaldson is letting him down as much as (or as mentioned Polanco) being insane. IMO Donaldson is earning his $, not only by his production but also by his mentoring and example We could never gain close to what we'd be losing by trading him.
  23. This is what I meant by bad management.
  24. Agreed Larnach was rushed up which was bad management. Eventually he'll come around and hit the weird stuff and he'll mash. But I disagree with his defense, yes he's a better glove in RF but he doesn't have the arm IMO. So I'd like to see him at 1B before Kiriloff
