  1. The enjoyment of baseball (for me) resides in the plays, not wins or losses. Winning is great, losing is frustrating. A well placed pitch, a fine defensive play, a heads up running play, and a good plate appearance are what I'm seeking. The Twins have problems. The center of the problem (imo) is an ownership group that is disconnected. Thus free rein is afforded the front office and manager to pursue their vision of baseball. Now one must acknowledge that every person who has an affinity for baseball will have their view, but only the guys in charge get their wish. I cannot understand what The Plan is for the Twins. Under current leaders they have consistently fielded slow, defensively challenged teams that do not understand how to run the bases and are not aware of situational hitting. There are plays made in virtually every game that are positive so as a baseball fan I have many options and opportunities to enjoy the games. That includes other teams, many minor league games, and the Twins. Until the Pohlad family takes an active interest in their corporation, The Minnesota Twins Baseball Club L.L.C., there is unlikely to be much change in the way the team is run. Of course, some feel the team is run just fine. Some feel 2026 will be magically different. The play by Brooks Lee last night, the throw by Gasper, and the home runs were enjoyable to watch. The current Twins team is the worst in baseball at this time, but there are still moments to enjoy in every game.
  2. Been asking for that since October of 2023 when his stock was sky high. Great talent n 2017, but sh*t happens and then it is time to move on.
  3. Nice play by Brooks Lee. We have to enjoy what we can. The Twins are the worst team in baseball at the moment and next year is shaping up as a 100 loss campaign. This will test the resolve of all Twins fans. Enjoy the small things. It sure was a beautiful day today.
  4. I'm not assuming the rules in the next CBA remain the same, you are. I think there will be some changes made. It's just two viewpoints. We can both be certain of one thing - we don't know what changes will be made within the next CBA.
  5. If he is ready and healthy next March, Walker Jenkins should be in the starting lineup for the first game of the year. Nobody knows how the CBA will be tweaked at this time. So if that is what you mean .... the answer is yes.
  6. Everyone is frustrated with management and the direction of the team right now. Please explain what happens to Byron Buxton if Walker Jenkins proves he is ready for MLB and is on the opening day roster next season. You seem to feel he must play centerfield. My thoughts are that the Twins pitchers desperately need as many strong defensive players in the field as possible. Walker Jenkins in left field with Byron Buxton in centerfield is better than the reverse .... for the pitchers. A few other players come to mind. Corbin Carroll and Jarren Duran are both decent in centerfield but their teams see them as far better suited to the corner outfield and thus they use stronger defensive fielders in CF.
  7. Well .... you could be correct. If you are we can expect a race to see if the franchise record of the 1904 and 1909 Washington Senators teams will be broken.
  8. The Twins lost more than 90 games from 1997-2000 and again from 2011-2014. The low points in Twins history as far as losses were 102 in 1982 and 103 in 2016. Calvin's teams lost 90 or more games in 1961 and then we he ran out of money in 1982 and 1983. This coming offseason will be important if the Twins are to successfully rebuild the team to escape being a perennial losing team. The hope is that a few teams value certain Twins players enough that the Twins acquire the needed talent to rise again in 2-3 years. New management is a must just as it was when the Twins turned away from the Billy Gardner and Ray Miller era.
  9. I'm not sure how many games you have watched that include Walker Jenkins in centerfield. Someone who has watched him play in person a couple of dozen times could better answer how Jenkins looks in the middle of the outfield. I have seen him play about 50 times via milb.com (games, not highlights). I think Jenkins is ok as a centerfielder. He doesn't look as good as Emmanuel Rodriguez but he has been fine. It sure would be super uplifting to have a Jenkins, Buxton, Rodriguez outfield for the pitchers. At some point Buxton will either be moved to a corner or his contract runs out. I'm not sure how Byron views playing somewhere other than centerfield. It would not be a bad thing to have Walker Jenkins playing a good left field and hitting .300. FWIW, pretty much most scouts viewed Jenkins as a corner outfielder at some point but stated that he does a decent/passable job in centerfield. So left field has always been the projection.
  10. Which is why he should be the every day DH. The alternative is finding a team that likes him and his bat and will trade a significant player to acquire him.
  11. It is not about how the team plays. The hope, perhaps both ironically and tragically, is with the Pohlads. Can they take an interest in their team? If they do, both Falvey and Baldelli are gone. If they continue to ignore everything, then nothing changes in management. It is as simple as that.
  12. The pitchers cannot succeed with a group of guys behind them that cannot make plays. Yes, the Twins need some power hitters. There is a place for Wallner, DH. Let Wallner be a full-time DH. The other side of the coin is that there may be a team that craves Big Matt on their team and are willing to part with a multi-talented player for him.
  13. There are players who put winning above money. Thing is, baseball is corporate so the players know they cannot make most of their decisions so money is a reality. The only reason that Carlos Correa signed with the Twins is because no other team would sign him. The Twins had to outbid themselves. Pete Alonso went back to the Mets instead of signing elsewhere. Does anyone believe he signs with the Twins if they are high bidder? So money is a thing but the control of these players by the clubs makes independence or choice of employer for most players a distant thought.
  14. I'm not remembering anyone who is worse out there. I understand Wallner has his fans, which is good for him. I would prefer to watch Keirsey Jr. make outs rather than see Wallner lope around helplessly. I can live with others preferring Big Matt. Ryan, among others, are not enamored to see him in the lineup as an outfielder. Why not just use him as a DH?
  15. The bat plays, but he should never have a glove in his possession; as pure a DH as we have seen.
  16. Did the Twins whiff badly by not trading Ryan at the deadline? It seems like the Twins didn't have any sort of plan but were just taking calls; reactive. I guess we find out in the offseason. Put the odds of Ryan returning at about 5%.
  17. As a former pitcher it is almost impossible to imagine the stress of pitching with that defense and that manager. We will never know but there may have been some acrimony within the bullpen that led to the purge. The saying that you cannot get rid of all the players, so the manager/GM/ POBO has to go is being flipped by the Twins. We can expect another pile of 7-10 players to be moved after the season closes. The reason the Pohlads are such crappy owners has zero to do with money. They are not involved and have made poor hires to lead the ship, so it sinks.
  18. Total conjecture but the young players must struggle to relate to Byron. I'm not seeing the effort that suggests the younger and/or inexperienced players are loving being a Twin. Buck isn't leading anything.
  19. Wallner should never be allowed in the field. He is a big part of Ryan's issues. Wallner has potential as a pure DH.
  20. Defense is an idea that is rejected by the Twins, which makes evaluating the pitchers nearly impossible. When I watch Ryan I see a dejected guy. We can't know what is going on within the clubhouse. The team looks uninterested.
  21. Roden could be an average MLB player but his skills are not polished yet and he should be near prime age. Do the Twins roll him out for a year on a 100 loss team and allow him to learn the MLB game with the hope he blossoms in a couple of years? Maybe. The plans for the team are not very evident to me. I don't have anything against Roden or others, but I'm wanting to see a few prospects who have been highly regarded step forward and play regularly. Is that going to happen? Emmanuel Rodriguez is looking more like a mirage than a Twins star; always on the IL and high K rates when he does play. And yet, still, I'm hoping for a miracle. If Roden is the miracle .... great.
  22. Jenkins is raw as a 20 year old and needs experience playing baseball against strong competition. The move to St. Paul and the more advanced AAA pitchers (specifically breaking balls and off speed pitches) should be a solid learning experience for Walker. Jenkins has done well in centerfielder thus far but projects as a corner outfielder. Many Twins fans, including you, are very high on Matt Wallner. His bat has definitely gone boom at times. He is, however, strictly a DH. There isn't any way to be a .500 team with a glove that poor unless you hit as well as Manny Ramirez. So Wallner isn't an issue if the Twins choose to use Jenkins in right field. There is room for both if that is the decision.
  23. From my viewing perspective it isn't the pitchers figuring him out. Kaelen looks tired and just a touch slower with his reflexes. He has not played shortstop exclusively, which may be a reaction from the manager noting that Culpepper is tired. It isn't unusual for a player to fight the game physically and mentally in their first full year of professional baseball. I expect KC remains at AA and he plays through the remaining games as a learning experience. Culpepper will have a much better idea of how to prepare for next year and he will be working hard this offseason.
  24. The week went pretty much the way it felt it would go. The Twins are not fielding a team that can win more than a game here and there. The A's and White Sox are better teams. 3 games in Toronto with the Blue Jays and then hosting the Padres for 3 at Target Field should be a treat. Hope for 2 wins and who knows what will happen. Seems hard to believe still that the Twins couldn't pick up better position prospects in the recent purge. The only hope is that a bidding war breaks out for the Twins top three starters and some talent flows into the system at the top end. Still hopeful for a few fast, defensively skilled ballplayers who can hit coming back in trades.
