  1. In house, I would say Molitor, Steinbach, and Glenn are candidates. I hope not Ullger. Mike Maddux? Ryne Sandburg? Alan Trammel? Jim Hickey? Curt Young? Rick Peterson? I am not sure what these guys contracts currently are but they would be guys I would be interested in if they went out of the organization.
  2. I like the idea Mike Wants Wins suggests with Ellsbury. If Hicks does hit at some point in time, then you could always trade someone not named Buxton. I know there are some mid level starting pitchers out there and I would be ok with Hughes and Tanaka. I am not high on Josh Johnson but if he comes cheap and we sign one or two other pitchers, I could stomach the risk. I just don't want him to be the only SP signing. Are the Twins content with Florimon as SS? Stephen Drew is available and Peralta. Personally, I am not a big fan of Peralta and I don't think they will touch him but he is a decent fielder and a better offensive upgrade. Drew interests me the most if they look to upgrade SS.
  3. I feel your pain too. I bought a share of season tickets from a guy who spends I would guess in the range of 1 million on season tickets. He turns around and sells shares to his friends and associates. We were just asked if we wanted to sign on for next year. For me, it is tough to get motivated for next year. The All-Star game isn't that big of a sell for me. It would be fun to go to but it is kind of meaningless to me. We live 4.5 hours away so when we go to a game we try to hit a weekend and get 2-3 games in. That is our family vacation and it is tough to convince the family to sit through something that is getting very hard to sit through.
  4. June will be rough! East coast and west coast road trips in the month with 10 home dates.
  5. I didn't see the game so I can't comment on the specifics. Gladden says quite often to look at the scoreboard and it will tell you want to do. The question is where do you draw the line. How many runs do you you need to be up and in what inning is it considered unsportsman like? Personally, I don't mind some of the unwritten rules. What I don't like is how umps issue a warning after one batter gets hit.
  6. Did Provus just guess that there was about 4000 in attendance today? Yikes, sounds like an empty park. That can't be fun to play in.
  7. No I really don't. I just don't want to hear it as an excuse either.
  8. I am not really rooting for them to lose but I am kind of hoping that they don't rattle off a win streak either and finish out of the top 10 in the reverse standings. At least that way they wouldn't lose their pick if they signed someone with a qualifying offer.
  9. It matters because I think most of us hope the FO signs more than Josh Johnson.
  10. All I was saying is that if Johnson is available at the Twins current retread cost, I would take him. I wouldn't give him what Lincecum or Hughes will require. I would love if they pursued Lincecum. He has at shown he can stay healthy and throw 200+ innings. Halladay would be worth the risk. Up until his injury, he has shown that he can be consistant and you could run him out there for 30 starts. What turns me off on Johnson is his health. If he doesn't start more than 20 games like he has 4 of the last 8 years, you are still stuck with the same problem of running guys like Pedro Hernandez, Cole Devries, Jason Marquis.... for 10+ starts. I don't know about the rest of you but I have seen enough of those guys over the last three years. I would prefer a quality starter. I know injuries are a part of the game and they happen and for some people, they just happen more often.
  11. I am not as high on the Josh Johnson bandwagon as most are. When healthy he is good but he has only had 25 or more starts 3 times in his career. If he comes cheap enough, I am all for it but I wouldn't spend like crazy to get him. I think Hughes would be a nice fit and a change of scenery might benefit him. I listened to his start on 8/15 and the yankee announcers were questioning if they would start him more this season because they said you can't run him out there just to lose each time. I think pitching in Target Field as opposed to Yankee Stadium would definately help his numbers. Lincecum would be nice too but I think he will be a bit pricy. For shortstops, IMO the only option that will be available that is worth anything that the Twins could actually sign is Stephen Drew. I am not sure I am sold on him. Maybe make due with Florimon next year and go after Jed Lawrie in 2015. Shortstops Clint Barmes (35) Willie Bloomquist (36) Jamey Carroll (40) - $2MM vesting option with a $250K buyout Alexi Casilla (29) Stephen Drew (31) Yunel Escobar (31) - $5MM club option Rafael Furcal (36) Alex Gonzalez (36) Cesar Izturis (34) Derek Jeter (40) - $8MM+ player option with a $3MM buyout John McDonald (39) Jhonny Peralta (32) Brendan Ryan (32)
  12. [quote=Thrylos;158709 c. the Twins will save $9M that they can put towards a real starting pitcher for 2014. QUOTE] I like this idea but we all know that we will more than likely give 3 crappy pitchers $3 million each.
  13. The return for Willingham isn't going to be great. The O's also claimed Mike Morse. I am guessing that is a bargaining chip they will use. Orioles Claim Mike Morse Off Waivers: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
  14. If they add him to the 40 would they lose a year of team control or does it just start the arbitation clock? If they would lose a year of team control, I say promote him to AAA. I would rather have a full year of Sano at age 27 than a month of Sano at 20. If it just starts that arbitration clock, then call him up. If he is a super 2 or not, does it really matter? Hopefully they are smart and buy out his arbitration years before that even comes into play like Tampa did with Longoria.
  15. A few years back, Delmon hit a batting practice homer in Kansas City that is probably the furthest ball I have ever seen hit. The ball hit a table on the fly in the area of the Royals Hall of Fame. The table just shattered. It was quite a sight and a majestic shot. I never was a fan of his but I was impressed with him on that day. I hope he can turn it around.
  16. From what I have heard, Colletti called and said "We are thinking about Butera." Ryan responds "Done." Colletti says "We were thinking about..." when Ryan cut him off and said "No, he's yours, done deal. Per rules we will just say PTBNL". Now the big question is, what I am going to do with my 41 jersey!
  17. I was shocked someone wanted him.
  18. We are expecting twins and our doctor said 36-38 weeks is normal. Our due date in Nov 8 and we were told to expect them around Oct 16. So being 34 or 35 weeks isnt terribly early but still I would have my concerns.
  19. I hope they are doing alright. I heard that they were due August 31. That is pretty early even for twins.
  20. I like the idea of Wong. Wasn't he once drafted by the Twins too?
  21. I guess they didn't miss out if they weren't eligible.
  22. From my understanding, the 10 smallest market teams and the 10 lowest revenue teams are eligible. Does anyone know where the Twins rank in those? I was kind of shocked to see Baltimore and St. Louis in the pool. Competitive Balance Lottery pays out 12 Draft picks | MLB.com: News

  24. If it is an in-house choice, I like Molitor. He was a speaker at our season ticket draft and was asked the question if he would like to manage. He said he currently enjoys what he does in the organization and that door hasn't opened for him yet. That was the short condensed version of his answer. The way I took it was that he would be very interested if approached. I like the idea of going outside the organization if Molitor isn't interested. I do like Sandberg. I hadn't thought about Mike Maddux but he could be interesting too.
  25. Rachel Phelps would love this topic! There is still too much uncertainty in the draft to intentionally tank. I know scouting is getting better but those guys still have to develop.
