  1. And only for 2018, I might add. For the bigger picture, SS are below average hitters (MLB wRC+ of 90, just above catchers). Edited to add: I see that Major League Ready already pointed this out.
  2. Hello TD community - when I click on "just click this link" I get the following message: Do you know, does this mean I need to update the Flash on my computer, or that there is something else going on? Thanks for any help ... Melissa Error: 404 Not Found There was a problem processing your request! 3. I liked seeing AK hit that double today against Tampa Bay! Such a smooth swing.
  4. Good news about Megan Ryan at the Strib! I have enjoyed her excellent reporting about the Gophers the last couple of years.
  5. Another thing that comes to mind with Dozier's retirement is that his playing arc illustrates further why teams are shying away from long-term contracts once players are past their arbitration years. As stated in another thread, teams are "paying for projection, not for past performance." Personally, I hope that the new agreement will give greater monetary awards to the younger players, when they are actually contributing at or near their peak.
  6. One of the pleasures for me as a life-long baseball fan is the long season and the many opportunities to watch the game, including some at the park. I get a lot of pleasure in watching these highly skilled players work their craft. Sure, there can be crushing disappointments - I was at Target Field for that extra-innings loss to the Yankees in 2019, when Aaron Hicks (ouch!) made the game-saving catch. But it was still a fun game to watch, overall. Certainly, when a team I follow makes the postseason, and then succeeds, it's all the more fun. But the long season provides so many occasions for joy, if we don't put all our eggs in the one basket of postseason success.
  7. Doc, I would keep the 6th IF option in St. Paul for a quick call up if needed as an IL replacement (assuming a 25-player roster). If we go to 26, maybe then?
  8. I like Luis as much as the next Twins fan, but I believe that his defensive stats (if we mean the traditional error rate) are affected in his favor by his limited range. If he got to more balls and had more chances his errors would presumably climb, too.
  9. I just loved this article and the Letterman show! Brought me back in lots of ways. I grew up in Milwaukee as a Braves fan, then we didn't have MLB for several years before the Pilots moved from Seattle to become the Brewers. I was in high school at the time and caught a few Brewers games at the old County Stadium, though I was never much of a Brew Crew fan. A few times the Twins were in town, and somehow, as I now remember it, it seemed that The Killer came up to bat late in every game and blasted that ball out of the park, sending the Twins to victory. Also: watching Dave L. in his prime was a real treat. Never saw this episode before. The band was so rockin' - I always wished I could hear more than the intro and outro of the music they played during commercial breaks. The cigar came out toward the end of the show. All so fine. Thanks, David Youngs!
  10. Longtime St. Paulite here. This is funny, of course, but in part because it rings so true. So many of my Minneapolitan friends complain that they get lost in The Capital City. "But ... they don't use the alphabet or numerical sequences!" Pearl clutch. On the other hand, the supposed N-E-S-W directions in downtown Mpls (skewed to follow the River, of course) threw me for a loop for a while. And when people say things like "32xx 34th" I have to stop and think which is the Street and which is the Avenue. Particularly bad in Dinkytown, where we have things like 4th at the corner of 14th ...
  11. But wouldn't a shortened season also reduce the salaries? Or are you assuming that a new player agreement requires full-season salaries even for a reduced number of games?
  12. I think Thorpe should have a SP role in AAA next year, assuming there is a minor league season. He could work on his velocity and command without it harming the big league club. Then if he does well, and the need arises, bring him back up.
  13. Fabulous!! ❤️❤️
  14. My son attended UNC too (Class of 2011) so this made me wince a bit, too. But yes - a great article!
  15. Thanks so much for this analysis! Cash and the Rays have definitely re-imagined a lot of older set ways of BB thinking, and most teams have followed along as they can. Openers, anyone? And I love your phrase "baby bombers" for the Buffalo team. Agree that their bullpen is the Yankees' "wild card" in terms of whether they can win with that very scary lineup but iffy BP.
  16. I think we just don't know in a two - games - out of - three series. Either team could blow hotter or colder. Either team is capable of winning, since so much depends on that day's pitching performance. Cole can be got to, but usually not. Maeda only misses the win when his team lets him down. That could happen again. It's not just that we lost in three straight last year, it's how over-matched we looked. Let's hope that experience is reversed this time. But I definitely want any post-season matchup with NY Yankees to be in Target Field!
  17. This is what I cam on here to point out. Jeffers seems more agile and able to snag pitches in the dirt or wide of the plate than does Garver. Hurts to give away those advances to baserunners.
  18. My insight for the day: Byron Buxton is so fun to watch!!
  19. Another game where Rosario shows it all - the bad and the good. To me, the bad outweighs the good. Running into the first out at home; not fielding the (non-) ground rule double; overthrowing the cutoff man once or (I think) twice. I think that having Willians behind the plate was also costly, in terms of balls getting past him (however those were scored) and stopping base stealers. The expressions on the faces of Rich Hill and Trevor May said a lot. This led to one or two extra runs for Detroit. I know that Jeffers can't play every day, but he sure has shown himself to be a more reliable backstop.
  20. Such an interesting and heartwarming story, Ted -- thank you! I've been browsing her store, thinking I might buy a print for my father-in-law, a lifelong Cardinals fan. The prints are mostly of current players, but also a wonderful Ozzie Smith. Her "original on wood" of Stan Musial is "sold out." If Santa Claus were feeling especially generous this coming Christmas, I might have asked for that original Henry Aaron piece - but once again, sold out.
  21. I agree about the pitching, but I think it's a bit early to be trading Lewis.
