  1. Good point. If he's not on the verge of demotion he doesn't really enjoy hitting home runs. Such a chore.
  2. I'll give him a pass on prime age since he was a late bloomer, which presumably colors his perspective on that.
  3. Sano was already among the most disciplined hitters in baseball. People are just looking for ways to jump back on the bandwagon. Pro tip - don't jump off so fast next time.
  4. Not at all. What actually happened is that he had a good couple games, just like he has had many times before. What it proved was nothing, except to reinforce that the demotion talk was unjustifiable, irrational, and just basically wrong in every conceivable way.
  5. The Twins would be better with a 24-man roster than with Danny Santana on the team, so comparing him to Buxton isn't really the issue. It's just a matter of where he should be making adjustments. I think MLB.
  6. Those are key points. I don't see much of an "upswing" - the Twins just aren't as bad as their record, as last year they weren't as good as their record. The team was legitimately awful for several years and now is mediocre, despite some luck giving both false hope and false despair. Pitching has been such an intractable issue for the organization that I can't write it off as a major stumbling block.
  7. I guess I'm not sure I really understand your point here. The Twins have produced at the level of a 75-win team. That figure removes sequencing and other 'luck' considerations, at least at the team level. So if you accept that the Twins are a 75-win team, is that really good news? It's better than, say, 70 wins, but considering how long the Twins have been losing, a 75-win caliber team just doesn't get me all that excited.
  8. You can't just throw out the early season results like that, and relying on in-season trend is dangerous as well. The Twins are on a 75-win BaseRuns pace, which is certainly a lot better than their actual record, but on the low end of expectations. Anytime you need significant improvement to get to .500, it's a little early to be talking about the finishing touches.
  9. Well, if you want one of your team's best players in AAA, then yes it does raise some doubt regarding your opinion of said player.
  10. Nice runner-up performance by Sano in the player of the game sweepstakes. Mark another one down for DanSan.
  11. I'm sick of watching quality ABs and power from Sano. Let them enjoy that version of "baseball" in Rochester.
  12. At least Santana makes up for his laughable "defense" with great hitting.
  13. There is no such thing as "too many" prospects. Most minor leaguers aren't actual prospects. If anything the Twins are starting to get a little short on prospects, with graduations and what not.
  14. No. Trades for more established players involve giving up greater talent in exchange for greater current production. The Twins don't have enough excess talent to acquire current production. Trading away core players will leave them in even worse shape than before. Can't be done.
  15. Right, but it wasn't the premise of the post I was responding to. Something big would need to happen to change the dynamic of his case, beyond several more years of solid play.
  16. I don't see where ABs are going to come from. The Twins already have a bunch of young guys that need to play.
  17. I've always been a big fan of Mauer. Feel free to search the forums for me criticizing him - you won't find anything. He just isn't going to have the counting stats or other factors necessary to get into the HOF, whether or not he's deserving. If he had been a Yankee, then quite possibly. If he was a World Series hero, quite possibly. But alas.
  18. I guess the Twins are hitting too well right now . . . need to replace someone good with Trevor Plouffe to bring things back down to Earth a bit.
  19. Plouffe stinks. Release him. Who cares? I still am amazed by this discussion. A team more than 20 games below .500 would send down one of the most talented young players in the league to work on his defense? After they are the ones that screwed around with changing his position? Gee, I wonder why the Twins have been so bad for so long.
  20. He isn't going to be in the HOF, unless you mean the Twins version, and he's a lock for that already. But it certainly would be awesome if he could maintain a ~.800 OPS going forward. His defense has looked pretty good this year too. He's a well above-average 1st baseman at the moment.
  21. It's not really moving someone "quickly" to start them at such a low level that they have to be promoted a bunch of times just to get someplace appropriate. Obviously, for late-round picks there are roster considerations and they aren't seen as likely MLB players anyway. But the Twins could clearly be more aggressive with relievers, and not only for certain high picks like Burdi and Reed. Still though, minor league relievers in general have a poor MLB track record. Most big league relievers are failed starters, with Rogers being a great example (didn't develop a good enough 3rd pitch).
  22. A .732 OPS in AA really isn't very good. Granite needs to make a higher quality of contact, rather than just putting the ball in play, to be effective in the Majors. I do think he has a good chance of developing into a bench guy.
  23. If his arm is an issue, how is 3B time an option? I just don't really see how Polanco and Dozier can co-exist past this year. A new GM, assuming competence, will look to trade one of them in the off-season as part of a deal for a starting pitcher.
