  1. There are plenty of players who are going to have to lower their cotract demands in the next month. i would hope the Twins do some bargain shopping as Kelly Johnson is still available and there are more relievers and Marcum is still available too.
  2. I think Burnett is a given and Fien is practically a given out the gate and I think the third spot is Harden's as long as he is capable of pitching and wins the competition in spring training. If Harden isnt ready yet or one of the other 2 drops the ball then I think Roeneckie wins out followed by Robertson then Wood, Pressly, and Slama are aat the back if all else fails. Though I would like to see what Slama can do as a majorleaguer. I think Terry Ryans goal for the bullpen was to make sure there was enough competition for spots as the bullpen was effective but doesnt appear to be strong. Harden has a chance to make a huge statement in the pen and be a huge upgrade.
  3. I think that Hicks will eventually be a good leadoff hitter. Mauer belongs in the #2 slot in the lineup, Carroll would be a solid #2 but the team would be better served with him as the 9th hitter. Mastroianni should bat leadoff until Hicks gets the callup towards the end of May then go back to being the 4th OF.
  4. Don't forget about the team montage either.
  5. I hope they get the SS Diaz, But I am still looking at being competetive next season. The way to do that is by having a solid bench so I hope they get Inge and Sweeney. If Kelly Johnson is still available towards the end of January, I hope they get him on a 1 year 2-4 million contract. I would like to see the Twins sign Marcum or Saunders too as I think they need 1 more pitcher for depth as there are numerous pitchers comming back from injury. and last but not least Punto.
  6. Lets go with worley diamond pelfrey correria hendriks If Pelfry isn't ready to start the season then I can see Dedunno or Devries getting a chance Harden will be in the pen if he can still pitch. Gibson will be up later in the season. Looks like it would be wise to sign one more pitcher this offseson. Either Marcum or Saunders is fine. I am not as high on Marcum as others are on this board. I think of him the same as I do DeVries. and I think of DeVries as I do Corriea only cheeper and no guarentee of being paid 5 million in 2014. i see them as 5-6 inning pitchers near 4.5 era. I am not sure where Walters is at on the list of potential starters if he is ahead of DeVries and Dedunno or not (marcum) (saunders)
  7. I am going to back track just a little on what i said earlier. there were 2 other pitchers on the list available other than Myers, Sanchez and Santana. and seeing where payroll is going to be the next few years as there are going to be lots of pre arbitration players on the team we could easily afford to get Sanchez if we wanted that top of rotation pitcher. Depending on what is likely to be available in 2 years as a free agent or who we draft in the first round and how quickly they can get to the majors. since the Twins are not going to compete next year I guess it doesn't matter that they didnt get a pitcher this offseason we can wait to see if more options are available later when TR decides its time to be competetive again.
  8. I expect Harden to dominate in relief. I think the list above is for expected talent level for next season and Bauer may be a great prospect but isn't an immediate given He could end up anywhere from 4-8 on the list. Also the only player on that list that was realistic for the Twins that they didn't get was Myers. I would rank Marcum between 6-7 for durability issues. but projecting into next year is hard as we don't have a big enough sample size to see if Pelfry and his new cutter would continue at the pace he started last season, then there is projecting the development of Davis and Bauer, does Santana rebound and how much? The other thing that isn't spelled out is how much of a cost did each team pay for their pitching? Kansas City paid alot of money and prospects. I almost want to root for them for going all in and for the pity I will feel for them if they dont win. Their trade for Shields was like a Matt Capps for Wilson trade on steroids. The Twins are only stuck with 5 million sunk cost in 2014 for Corriea. In the future Meyers probably ranks up in the top 3 as does Bauer, May probably projects to be in the Myers/ Guthrie vicinity. Here is how i would rank the pitchers for next season. 1. James Shields (Royals) 2. Anibal Sanchez (Tigers) 3. Jake Peavy (White Sox) 4. Vance Worley (Twins) 5. Ervin Santana (Royals) 6. Jeremy Guthrie (Royals) 7. Brett Myers (Indians) 8. Trevor Bauer (Indians) 9. Wade Davis (Royals) 10. Mike Pelfrey (Twins) 11. Kevin Correia (Twins)
  9. the return of Hawkins. I think we could sign one of the relievers, but i also wonder about Johnson at 2B or could he play CF?, or Alex Gonzales or Theriot at SS
  10. If they are from Cuba i think that falls under the cap of 2.9 million that teams can spend on international players. I would be all about the Twins signing one of these SS. There are very few options in this organization there. I am continually and annually surprised that the Twins who love athleticism so much do not have any worthwhile prospects at SS.
  11. Overall TR has done a solid job putting the team ia a position to be .500 next year and even better in the future. The only 2 disappointments I have is that TR hasn't gone out and got at least 1 solid pitcher like Jackson who would still be a part of the rotation when we are a competetive team again. in 2014 we could have a rotation of players who all make the minimum but Worely who will be 1rst time arbitration eligible. We could afford almost any pitcher in that scenario and the rotation is likely to remain inexpensive in 2015 and 2016. While I believe the Twins will resign Morneau, there doesn't seem to be a huge increase comming in the forseeable future on the offensive side of the game either. SO we could have afforded a 12-15 million per year pitcher. The other thing that bugs me is the 2nd year of Corriea's contract. I hope we will be able to trade him next offseason. I do like the prospects the Twins picked up, and I think Harden will make a good setup man.
  12. If I remeber right his fastball touched 97 in highschool thats why teams were interested in him as a pitcher. What would be a cool idea is if this website would post a top 40 or 50 prospect list with the player name a link to a discussion about stuff like this for each player. same could be done for 25 man roster too. That way we can all talk about players individual strengths and weaknesses and scouting reports and stuff.
  13. I think Harden will make a great addition to the bullpen. He has already shown he can't stay in one piece as a starter. At this point he should become a top set up man.
  14. Looks like he'll end up catching 10k to 12k innings which if he can return too his gold glove defense that won't loose him votes. I do think a 4th batting title will really help his cause and because he is a catcher he won't be held to the same offensive standards as OF and 1B but he will be held to higher offensive standards. I think Posey would keep Mauer from getting some votes as when Mauer is eligible they will compare to Posey as well. I also think Higher WAR totals and batting average totals will be what gets him in. (hense the comment about an extra batting title).
  15. There are a few options that would cost a million or less, Johnny Damon, Nyler Morgan, or Scott Posednick. While I wouldn't want them to be anything more than backup, I wouldn't mind them starting long enough to extend Hicks and/or Arcia's service time another season.
  16. Hopefully the Twins sign 1 more pitcher this offseason and have lots of competition for the rotation spots with Pelfry, Correia competing with Gibson, Hendricks, Dedunno, and Devries and I guess Blakburn for the last 2 spots. It would be nice if Blackburn came back with a new pitch to go with his sinker and started getting people out. Since this is about Hendricks I will go on record that I believe he has the potential to be good but he has to earn the right to pitch in the rotation and if he can continue to show improvment with his opportunuties and consistantly get hitters out then yeah he could be a starter up here. but so far he has not been someone to count on till a couple of last september starts. I wouldn't want to bank on that for 2013. with several starts and a good season in AAA maybe. with the starters we are brining in so far. Pelfry and Gibson comming off of injuries and Correia with the potential to not be good should give Hendrick opportunites to come up and pitch. so maybe 2014 will be a better year to count on him.
  17. The Payroll is lining up to have lots of flexibility. C Mauer 23,000,000 1B Parmelee 500,000 Possibly Morneau resigns 2B Dozier 500,000 SS Florimon 500,000 3B Plouffe 500,000 LF Willingham 7,000,000 CF Hicks 500,000 RF Arcia 500,000 DH Doumit 3,750,000 SP Worley 500,000 SP Diamond 500,000 SP Gibson 500,000 SP Meyer 500,000 SP May/ Hendricks SP Correia 5,000,000 CL Perkins 3,000,000 Burton 3,650,000 Deunsing 1,500,000 Fien 500,000 Swarzak 500,000 Robertson 500,000 Roenecke 800,000 Plus lets just go with 4,000,000 for a bench, add 1,500,000 if you think we have Carroll next year. Thats barely $51-2 Million for payroll for 2014. That opens a lot of options to fill holes. Especially if the Twins resign Morneau. That would give us a RF to trade hopefully Parmelee shows he can handle majorleague pitching and hit at least 25 HRs next year. That would make a great trade chip as he could be part of a package for David Price or another sp. I just picked price as he will be getting expensive and have 2 years before FA. What are some opportunities might be available with all of these resoures available?
  18. now this is a better signing. If only Correia was a 1 year deal.
  19. I am fine with Punto comming back. I would be more upset if we had more established MI. But as of right now we have Carroll and either Dozier or Florimon. With Florimon being the starting SS at the moment, It would be nice to have a qualified SS candidate as the Twins are not going to pay for anything better.
  20. Morneau is not going to be traded unless a team overpays for him with prospects. Parmelee hasn't shown that he can consistantly hit up here which is what is keeping him from being redundant to Morneau at this point. With a full season next year we will see. Keeping Morneau until we see what Parmelee will do and if he can make adjustments here is risk management. Keep in mind that Morneau likes it here and would rather play here all things being =. (don't have to try to convince him to take our money). So I imagine that after next season when May and Meyer get a taste of the big leagues and he can look past 2014 as a reloading year, I bet Morneau would sign a 2 or 3 year extension as long as the money is reasonable. There's value in that for us. So i would think that to trade Morneau would require a better than market trade offer from the team thats going to get him. So whats the best way to plan the future of our offense at 1B, C, DH, RF and LF looks like an interesting post for someone to write about. Players in this equation at the moment include Willingham, Morneau, Mauer, Doumitt, Parmelee, then add Arcia, Sano, and more numerous OF prospects. I get the feeling Parmelee is the one who gets traded once he shows he can hit up here. imagine what we can ask for a power hitter who doesn't cost much in a trade. (part of a package for David Price next offseason?) (see will Myers return)
  21. If we signed Brandon Webb at this point he would spend time in the minor leagues.
  22. I know that LA is showing off money and stuff. But this trade is about saving them some cash. How bout a cost control player like Swarzak or Burnett or Robertson and some cash say 1 million for Campuano and Punto. That would be a salary dump they could sell to fans down there and help themout with their bottom line as well. I have no idea what their bullpen looks like. So i could just be out in LF, there's no way I'd trade Perkins for either as he is likely to be here when we are good again. I like the idea of getting a SS but the more I look at Dee Gordon the less I like him. I was advocating a trade for him earlier now I am not so sure of his potential.
  23. If they trade Morneau to the Rangers its gonna be for prospects in A ball. Olt would be the lone exception as he is bloked the next few years. A trade of Morneau would signal a youth movement is all out as now there would be 3 rookies in the lineup at 1B (well Parmalee is almost still a rookie), RF, and CF and i guess SS as I think Florimon is a rookie. If we get Olt i guess Plouffe could move to 1B or RF so we aren't rushing anyone from the minors. I do the the minor league SS is intriging. Sardinez or something.
  24. Twins abilty to find Pitching talent on the FA market We just lost again to ourselves. Heartbreaking.
  25. He won 17 games once and he'll take our money.
