  1. KC is averaging the most innings per start on the team. We need some more starters to go 7 innings to limit bullpen use. We are 2nd in the American League in the number of innings the bullpen throws. KC though is not averaging quite 7 innings a start though. he does provide value to a team in the hunt for the playoffs so I am all for trading him if we can get a solid prospect for him. I am not for trading player to get c- prospects. Why do that when we can keep players and have a .500 team. He has also been pretty consistent. How many of his starts are between 5-8 innings giving up 2-4 runs? He hasn't had many blow outs this year. I am glad to say that KC has actually out pitched his contract this year. I feel the need to eat crow on that as I was very vocal against his signing. I am still uncomfortable counting on him to be more than a 4th/ 5th starter though.
  2. I expected the Twins to be around a .500 team 78 - 82 wins. I am a little surprised by some of the players performances. I expected more out of Carroll and the offense and Worely. I am surprised by Walters, Dedunno, and Corriea and Pressley and Roenicke. I am eating Crow so far on him. The reason the Twins are where they are though is not a surprise the bullpen has been lights out.
  3. I don't think Plouffe will be available till next season. There's no rush to trade him or Doumit. Our leverage in a trade of these guys is we don't have to move them. Sano isn't ready to be called up and neither is Pinto. Morneau is a toss up. I still do not think they will trade him, in fact I bet he resigns to a 1 year 14 million (or whatever the qualifying offer is next season) This prediction is also most likely to be wrong too as they could let Morneau go and move Plouffe to 1B next season and bring up Sano. Willingham could be traded this year. but I doubt anyone gets moved unless we get an overpay or a top 5-10 prospect. We don't need to reduce payroll and we don't have too many immediate replacements outside of Arcia that is ready right now.
  4. I'm ok with keeping Gibson down for now. I do believe he is ready for the call up and he'll probably get it the next time the Twins go to AAA for a pitcher. I would like to see Gibson come up and get at least 30 innings or so this year to help him set better expectations for next seaason. This season is seeing if they have anything in what pitchers they do have. Is Pelfry turning the corner? he has aq 94 mph fast ball. if/when he regains command he could be useful, resign for next season, be traded... Walters could be a cheap stop gap for a couple seasons or through next July and get flipped for prospects when Meyer/ May are ready. Same with Dedunno. If one of those 3 pitchers continue to pitch like a 12-15 game winner into next season what kind of haul in prospects could the Twins get? Would that be worth letting Gibson spend a few more weeks at AAA?
  5. If he signs a contract that includes next year as well he could be insurance in case Morneau leaves in that Parmelee moves to 1B Willingham, Arcia, and Hicks in the OF with Sizemore allowing players to rotate to DH/ in case of ineffectiveness/ in case of injury.
  6. Pinto is doing a good job of helping us fans forget the Ramos debacle of a few years ago. With a strong prospect in the minors its easy to move on and look forward to Pinto.
  7. My issue with the Correia signing was that it was for 2 years. That meant the Twins were punting 2013 and 2014 in my mind. If he can pitch 200+ innings this season he will have accomplished his mission and the contract may be a bargain for this season. Next season will be another thing as hopefully Meyer and Gibson are up and one of Walters or Dedunno becomes successful up here and Worely and Diamond gives us an extra starter next season and we wont be dependent on Correia to be a #2 starter but maybe a #5
  8. I'll go with Hermanson as there are several pitching prospect that just passed him in the pecking order and there are a few others in front as well and more right behind him. Benson is next as he is redundant too but the next level of players behind him will take a while to get closer to the majors. if Hicks gets hurt he is the best defensive option or there is also the other AAA guy as well (name forgotten) but then who would get the call? The thing you have to consider is how can these guys be usefull to a 25 man roster. Hermanson is too far away and passed by too many people to be in the conversation of being future help. Benson is one CF injury away from being up by default for defensive value.
  9. I think Hernandez deserves one or 2 more starts. Same with Pelfry and Worely. they all seem to show just enough to keep their spots then throw a clunker then just when you think we should replace them they throw another start that buys time. Eventually we need to give others a chance to see if we can get consistancy out of our rotation and give the others a chance. Dedunno and Devries did a solid job last year. They deserve another chance as well as Albers the way he's been pitching. With the innings limit on Gibson, I am almost ok with the Twins just giving him a few starts/ bullpen time to get acclimated this year and then come up next year and go for 180-200 innings. ( I imagine he will be capped next year in the 180-200 inning range)
  10. With all of the improvements in our prospects accross the board. I'd like to see our list of top 25-30 prospects as of now as several have moved up the rankings. Pinto, Baxendale, Walker, Goodrum, Collabello plus all of the names Sano, Meyer, Buxton, future is definately looking bright.
  11. Florimon hasnt been the offensive flop we thought he would be and has contributed. so have the bench bats Wilkinson and Escobar. The biggest hole in the lineup thus far hit 2 homeruns last night and has 16 runs and 16 RBIs in around 105 at bats so even with a .150 average he is producing. Dozier and Parmelee have been below average and Arcia is off to a nice start. I hope he wins rookie of the year.
  12. Last nights power display was a fun way to see him get his first multi hit game in his career. One thing I am impressed with is the number of RBI and Runs he has scored considering his inability to get hits so far. He has more RBI then Plouffe. Does anyone know what Hick's stat line is in the "clutch" or with RISP? So when Buxton Arrives does Hicks move to LF keeping Arcia in RF?
  13. The last time the Twins drafted a Scott Boras client in the first round Scott Boras found a loophole and had the draft pick declared a free agent. Travis Lee 1B. Luckily for the Twins he was mediocre at best and saved the Twins money by not signing him.
  14. Well, If Correia makes it to 11 starts and is still pitching this good he will have earned his money this year as he is getting paid 1/3 of an ace salary and 11 starts is about 1/3 of a seaason. So he still has a ways to go. But my main problem with signing him was the 2nd year. So i wont agree with this signing unless he pitches great all year with 200+ innings or he does well (sub 4.00 era and close to 7 innings per start) for at least half a season next year.
  15. If he gets promoted to A+ at the allstar break and continues to hit, and the A+ team is not likely to make the playoffs then you could promote Buxton to AA for the last 2 weeks of the season. But I think the Twins like to put the best playoff teams out on the field as the playoffs are close to a promotion as you are playing the best A+ team vs playing potentially noncompeting AA teams.
  16. I can see him coming up in September and getting a start or 2 and a couple of long relief appearances.
  17. The third wheel in the trade options is if Parmalee doesn't hit enough to stay up either. While he should, it should be noted that he may not hit enough also Willingham can get pushed to DH making Doumit a backup catcher/ back up OF/ pinch hitter/ back up 1B and Arcia starting in LF. There is no reason to rush to trade anyone as we don't have to trade anyone we can just have a stronger offense. There's also no reason to trade Morneau as we can make him a qualifying offer and get him on another 1 year deal or get another first round draft pick. I mean if we can get a top rated pitcher in a deal sure we make the trade but I don't think we will get the return needed to make a deal beneficial.
  18. Well it probably has more to do with Florimon and Escobar hitting pretty good so far. Dozier has started slowly and has been benched because of it and Carroll got a start. I don't think the 2 million option is that big of a deal considering it is a 1 year contract at that point and the Twins have tons of payroll flexibilty moving forward into 2014. Dozier and Carroll are on par to be about the same player, dozier with more power and Carroll an on base guy. Neither spectacular but both are solid as long as Dozier develops which is the key to Carroll's playing time. That and injuries to players. I wonder if Carroll could play some CF the next few weeks to spell Hicks some?
  19. I believe Pelfry will be fine as a starter 12-15 wins if he has his command back and he is back to throwing 90MPH. I was beginning to think he might need a few weeks more to work on that. Worely too. I wonder who will be the first to loose their rotation spot this season DeVries or Corriea? whats the over under there? I think DeVries has the chance to be serviceable.
  20. So if the Twins sign Chris Young, how does that change things for the rotation and bullpen? Chris Young To Opt Out Of Contract With Nats: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
  21. My predictions for the season are: 1. Our rotation mess will be straightened out by the All Star break and the rotation will be fine the remainder of the year (not great but passable) 2. Pressley and Walters do well as the 6th and 7th inning guys and make our bullpen strong this year. 3. Florimon starts between 110-120 games this year. 4. Hicks is a candidate for rookie of the year but doesn't win it. 5. If Mauer, Morneau, Hicks, especially Parmelee, and Willingham put up the numbers you are all writing about above then we will contend for the division title by outslugging and bullpenning them.
  22. He has enough power to be ok off the bench. and I dont think what we have is so special that we couldnt have him ready to replace if Florimon hits worse than already expected. or play 3rd in case of injury. I am ok if it is a 1 year and low cost low risk signing.
  23. union = mob mentality. I worked at ups when i was told i had to strike. management offered more money in exchange for 50% of control of pension as they felt the union was mismanaging the money. I was coerced and some people who chose not to strike had cars vandalized people were threatened. the unions walked more over the freedoms of the employee's then management did. Unions are way outdated. There are laws in place for a safe work environment. If you go to work for the benefit of a pension or a promise of payments 30 years from now ....here's your sign (engvall's sign for stupid) the business may not be around then. you as an individual are responsible for your retirement and well being. If you are offered a pension and the company decides to discontinue it. The you as an individual can exercise your right to leave that company. Its not like the union is going to help an employee who gets downsized 1 year before full pension benefits kick in. (thats not me by the way I left UPS years ago). Individuals should have the right to opt out of paying union dues (that may go to political parties you may not agree with) and being part of a union as a means to employment.
  24. Back to the rotation. My top 5 predictions are Worely, Hendriks, DeVries Corriea and either Dedunno or Pelfry with the spot Pelfry's to lose as of today. (Diamond starts on DL and Pelfry could start there too to work on mechanis for 20 days) Hendriks and DeVries are tied as I see it so whoever is pitching better at the time someone comes back the other goes down. Walters may get a shot in the pen. I dont want to see Corriea in the rotation at this point. Too bad i dont get a say in that. Also i did not mean to say he wont start this year in my earlier post. just that he isnt pitching up to someone wh deserves a spot. Dedunno and Walters are most likely to be sent down because of contract status and be the 7th and 8th starters this year. I think when Pelfry gets his mechanics down probably around the allstar break up until his arm wears out for the season he will be a solid pitcher. With all of the pitchers comming back from injury how much sense would it make to go with a 6 man rotation for a while starting late april though June?
