  1. This is the last I am going to post about this signing. and we better get at least one decent pitcher.
  2. Why not just save the money or sign a different crappy pitcher to a 1 year deal so atleast its a 1 year deal. Poll would you rather have DeVries or Correia in the rotation?
  3. YAY WE ARE PUNTING NEXT SEASON. OR 2. We now have 2 Nick Blackburns for our rotation. You'd think the Twins would have learned after Blackburn.
  4. This trade gives the Royals 6 starting pithers for next season. They look to have a good bullpen and decent offense. The could use a RF and they did overpay on this trade but it does move them up to contender status which is where you want your club to be. The Royals still have prospects and if they draft smart next year are in position to add as they should have a top 10 pick. I would have rather found a way to sign Sanchez to the 6 year 90 million and trade Butler or someone making 7 million and keep the prospects, but I am not the GM.
  5. Kansas City now has 6 starters available to pitch next season. I wonder if they try Hochevar out of the pen to see how he does there. This trade only works for the Royals if they go out and finish the retooling of their team and just go for it the next 2 years. It will also help if they resign Shields. As far as talent lost vs talent gained they lost that trade but they now have enough starting pitching to be competetive. What other holes do they have in their team? I haven't looked at their roster in so long.
  6. I think Hicks needs to start the season in AAA for financial reasons regardless. I think what Seth was saying is he hopes Benson shows he can be that stop gap CF instead of going outside the organization. Now in spring training if Hicks is so much better than everyone else playing then yes he needs to start the season as the CF but not if he is tied for the job because of the financial implications noted above.
  7. Gordon is a decent SS with potential and lots of speed. He is on the trading block and I like him better than what we currently have. I was just thinking of a proposal. if anyone has other ideas please suggest what you think they are worth to acquire as Campuano helps in the short run and Gordon could be our SS for the next 4-6 years.
  8. Both Diamond and Worley can be 12-15 game winners if they continue to pitch close to 180-200 innings and pitch like they have in the last year minus the injuries and if The Twins can get 2 more pitchers who can do the same then we will have the ability to compete for the playoffs. I don't think we will be heavy favorites but we won't be doormats like the last 2 years either. If we can find a way to trade for another top 150 prospect or 2 or 3 that would be great for our future, SS Dee Gordon of LA.....
  9. Rosario and Deunsing for Dee Gordon and Campuano? is that a good framework to start from?
  10. I think they sign someone like Nyler Morgan to compete in spring training for a job. If Hicks is their equal or less compared to Benson, Mastroianni, and Morgan then he goes to AAA. Hicks will need to be better than everyone as all things being equal he goes to the minors. I think CF and 4th OF will go to Morgan and Mastroianni initially Benson could sneak in there too.
  11. Where does Wimmers rank on our list?
  12. I think the Twins will get just enough to be an 78-84 win team on paper where a few breaks makes them a contender. once all the top talent in the minors gets established then we'll be a serious playoff contender.
  13. We have several prospects on the way with Gibson, Hendriks, May, Barrios, and Meyer to go along with Diamond and Worley. I think it would be better and safer to sign someone on a 1 or 2 year deal then it is to clog up the spots for all of these guys with potentially over the hill pitchers. I think we can get solid talent that allows us to stay competetive in the short run while we develop these pitchers and whoever we draft this year. I would rather sign Brett Myers to a 2 year contract and another pitcher for a 1 year deal. A 3 year deal for Marcum, Sanchez, or Edwin Jackson makes sense. There's not much left I would sign to a 3 year at this point.
  14. I can see the Twins trade for Campuano as we tried to sign him last offseason. his contract is reasonable, The Twins would probably be willing to give up less than other teams for him as we are going to keep our top prospects. I would think a bullpen arm (Swarak, Robertson, Fien, or Burnett), or 15+ ranked prospect or 2 Here's a thought. Would we trade a top prospect if they inluded Dee Gordon SS in the trade?
  15. I see a platoon of Nyler Morgan and Mastroianni at first 2nd guess is Benson and Mastroianni 3rd is Ankiel and Mastroianni 4th is trade or other FA from likes of Johnny Damon, Posednick, AAA FA 5th is Hicks THe Twins will go with the best option but if teh option can delay Hicks for a year then that one will likely happen last.
  16. Realistic CF alternatives would be Nyler Morgan and Scott Posedinek. they would both be inexpensive and stop gap as in they could be replaced midseason when we bring up Hicks and delay FA and arbitration by 1 year.
  17. If we are going to get a CF on the open market, its going to be Nyler Morgan or Posednick as a stop gap to go with Mastroianni. We are not going to pay for a CF.
  18. 2 year 20-24 million extension after spring training. Morneau retires a Twin. I don't see him getting traded.
  19. new top 10. I guess we should wait till spring training at this pace to do one of these lists. 1. Sano 2. Buxton 3. Arcia 4. Meyers 5. Hicks 6. Gibson 7. May 8. Rosario THis system is getting deep. I guess CF is now Hicks to lose.
  20. or we could just buy the pitchers. but wait we can't pay market rate for employees. not even once in while.
  21. the rangers have a a few fa next year in Young and Nelson cruz. they can let them go and save money if they have players ready to step in and play. who does that amount to one of our OF prospects and Burton and someone else Herman????
  22. for those who keep throwing out Diamond and Santana dont forget Shane Mack OF was also a rule 5 pick for the team.
  23. If you have to overpay go with the shorter contract. I think 3 years for Dempster is going to work. I would see if you can get him with 3/33 as that would be the highest bid. that did work on a 3B that rejected our 2 year offer for LA's 3 or 4 year deal at a lower annual average. I forget the guys name though.
  24. I second Puckett 1992 post. Harden should only be brought in as a reliever. I am ok with a 500k base major league contract with incentives but thats it. i wouldn't want him starting at all.
  25. thats just posturing. There seems to be several SS candidates on the trade market right now. I hope we get one.
