Article: Terry Ryan: Still Employed
Brandon replied to Twins Fan From Afar's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Terry Ryan is a good GM. There is no need to let him go. How many bad contracts has he hindered the club with since he has been here? (the bad multi year contracts are Joe Mays and the first year of Nolasco deal and Pelfry) That's a pretty low rate of failure compared to other GM's. (Note I do think Nolasco will rebound and be a solid 12-15 game winner the next 3 years averaging 190-210 innings per season.) We have a deep system and flexibility moving forward. This was a rebuilding year. As far as Gardenhire, He's a good manager who has his faults. No platooning, too role defined and routine oriented. and Rick Anderson is probably why Gardy is gone but he does do a good job of keeping the team together. I don't think he necessarily needed to go but the season ticket holders demanded it and for the first time since I followed the Twins, the Pohlads caved to pier pressure and Gardy is out. now it could be that management wants a different voice moving forward but they need to go outside the organization for that. Putting a Minnesotan who bailed on the team in 2002 because of the threat of contraction doesn't seem like the person I would want to run a team as Molitor lacks loyalty in that respect. -
Article: Twins Top Ten Prospects (Preliminary)
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This would be an interesting way to do the list. instead of top 50 wee could show the top players at each position. of course this only is interesting when we are deep in minor leaguers. Also Duffy and Rogers are well established at AA this year meaning they could show enough to warrant a big league promotion as early as next year. We should be looking at the following pitching options available for next year. Meyer May Berrios Duffy Rogers Do we really need to sign or trade for a pitcher for those last 2 slots in the rotation?- 61 replies

Article: Do Hitters Fear Some Catchers?
Brandon replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I remember a story from Twinsgeek on how umpires are more likely to call a ball on a questionable pitch to avoid calling a k on a marginal pitch and more likely to call a strike to prevent the walk on a marginal hit. So when I read this, I have to wonder what the counts are statistically when the framed pitches are called. A full review of that will add legitimacy to pitch framing provided that most of the k's called are on 3-0 or 3-1 counts. Since the Twins are strike throwers their catchers should tend to rate lower by the same logic. Wait the Twins catchers do rate lower. Something to consider.- 28 replies

Ron Gardenhire is fired because the Twins let the minors and majors talent erode to the point where they had to start all over and it took 4 years to get to the point where they are close to turning it around. but they have to pacify those that need instant gratification because that is the society we live in. Instant gratification.

Article: Who Will Be The Next Twins Manager?
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I got the impression that Rick Anderson was let go then Gardy followed him and this was reframed that Gardy was let go....Any ways, My 3 choices are Dave Martinez, Stienbach, and Dougie. anyway you look at it, this will take some getting used to.- 116 replies

Disappointing. The talent to compete was arriving. They will be competitive next year. -
My Trade Targets
Brandon commented on RealTwinsFan357's blog entry in Random Thoughts About Baseball
Your pitching list is nice Cincinnati has pitchers to deal too as they have several who are 1 year from FA. I think Boston would deal Jackie Bradley Jr. a little easier then Mookie Betts but I bet either could be had or something of value. -
A Realistic 2015 Minnesota Twins Roster, Staff and Payroll
Brandon commented on GoGonzoJournal's blog entry in Minnesota Foul Play-by-play
I think we'd start off with 12 pitches and 13 position players especially if we get another innings eating SP. So that means Nunez can stay. Also Sano and Meyer will not start on the bench/ bullpen. they can go to the minors to start the season and get called when there is an opportunity. There is a decent chance Swarzak is let go. He is a gamer so they may keep him too. He's willing to pitch where asked. and still not too expensive. The Twins may also sign a LF instead of relying on Hicks and/ or Santana moves to LF so Escobar can start at SS. I also think Parmelee is a solid bat off the bench. He is not the starting OF/1B we all want but he appears to be close to a Randy Bush clone on offense with less OPS of coarse. And lastly. I bet the Twins trade for a SP instead of signing one.- 12 comments

Article: The Twins Have a Problem
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have a contrarian view on this. The Twins offense has been remade and revamped and Buxton and Sano are still on the way. So its only going to get better. The starting rotation is 2 starters deep with a #1 Hughes and a 3/4 starter in Gibson. I suspect the Twins will trade for another pitcher. We have Nolasco as a bounce back candidate who I suspect will have a similar season to Gibson this year and be a .500 pitcher. And we have 3 others with some potential for the 5th spot May, Meyer, and Millone. The bullpen will be average if not above average but not spectacular. That should get us back over .500. Plus I think Detroit is nearing the end of their run with age and FA status affecting their future with a depleted farm system. I think If we are over .500 at the break next year the team will sell tickets. Probably not as many as they would like but I bet they hit close to 2 million. And I bet we are competitive into September. -
Article: Twins Top Prospects Part 1: 41-50 (Preliminary)
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't get too caught up in the numbers outside of the top 10 maybe top 20 because the difference from #40 and #21 is not that great and is subjective to the eye of the beer-holder. Debating who are top 10 prospects makes more sense. I view the top 50 as an opportunity to learn more about our prospects.- 25 replies

Article: Where Does Pelfrey Fit In?
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rule number 1 to pitching is you can never have too much. Lets wait and see what the Twins do in the offseason and how things shake out in spring training. I think the bullpen is definitely an option for him and the twins do too. His 3.5 million in incentives are for starting not relieving but the Twins got him for less guaranteed in case they moved him to the pen. I see him currently as a 7th or 8th or 9th starter depending on how you rank Pino and Swarzak. Probably 7th. I think if the Twins sign someone in the offseason he probably starts in the pen. -
Article: Peterson Saga Brings Back Memories
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Its to the point where I am going turn off football for a while. the media circus is too much for me to tolerate. watching the Vikings without Peterson is too. I think this is a case where Peterson thought he was doing right and needs to be corrected and given a chance to see if that takes hold. Wasn't those hits a result of the child endangering another child on a bike? Yes what he did was abusive but Adrian didn't think it was wrong as he thought it fit the punishment based on how he was disciplined growing up. I think there is room here for lieniency If he was a drunk abuser then I get it. punish the guy but he has cooperated and he has been a role model outside of that. so give him a chance to grow as a person. -
Article: Five Twins Rebound Candidates
Brandon replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nolasco has already started his rebound in case it hasn't been noticed he has given up only 3 earned runs in his last 3 starts and has only 1 bad start in his last 5 where his ERA is still 3.09 including that start. so he has been a lot better since coming back from injury it just took 2 starts to warm back up. Dozier has evolved some. The pitchers quit throwing the high fastball to him which has resulted in more doubles than HRs the second half. I do believe he needs to increase his average though but I am more concerned about why he quit running and stealing bases. The next 2 starts will determine where May is really at and if he belongs since he will pitch to 2 contending teams in his last starts of the year. But he does appear to be improving as evidenced by his k and bb ratios since his first start. If Mauer can go back to hitting .320 then we may have an elite offense next year and beyond. If he is at .270 we may have to move him back to C or consider him a part time player if he isn't going to hit 20+ HRs. Jury is still out on Hicks. He seems to want to be a 4th OF more than a starter by the way he's hit so far. And more and more talent is on the way so our time is coming and hopefully soon we can get off of the fire the front office and manager.- 12 replies

Article: Five Key Improvements for 2015
Brandon replied to stringer bell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can you pinpoint why you don't like Gardy as manager? I see lots of blame going his way for a talentless roster. I hope its not 4 losing seasons. If its in game management then I can appreciate that or if its something else. The Twins are about set to go on an 8 season winning streak or so. If Gardy manages those seasons he will be back to being a good manager and close to a 2000 win manager too. Might even bee a Hall of Fame Manager. The question is if he'll want to manage until e's close to70.- 34 replies

Article: Five Key Improvements for 2015
Brandon replied to stringer bell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1. The Twins offense is good now despite Mauers production. But a better Mauer is more fun to watch. 2. Mauer, C and the OF is where defense is lacking. We have defensive C at high A on the way and the low A C wasn't too bad either. wont help in 2015 but help is coming. Buxton, Hicks and Schaefer can get to anything in the OF, Parmelee can hold his own as a 4th OF/DH/1B/PH. Buxton wont be up till late next year if we are lucky but we wont be as bad next year by default. The solution is in our system. Mauer just needs more repetition to be average out there. 3. The rotation has pieces with more coming. We could go out and sign Santana/ Shields or wait it out. 4 and 5. no real comment on the last 2 home record and management are not something you can really pinpoint for improvement. yes we can get better OF defense and RH power. and Gardy is fine as a manager.- 34 replies

He's now won 3 games straight basically pitching like Correa in those starts with strikeouts. 8 ER in 16 innings with 19 strike outs. He's getting there. I think he is starting to relax a little. -

Article: Could Mientkiewicz Be The Next Twins Manager?
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you look at what's coming for the future. If Gardy leads the Twins to winning seasons for the next 8 seasons or so ....and that is possible with he talent coming up the pipe the Gardy could end his career with over 2000 managerial victories and potentially make the hall of fame as a manager. Why would he walk away from that? Just because Kelly did doesn't mean Gardy does. And its not like Gardy has forgotten how to manage. I say he'll be here another 10 seasons or so till he's close to 70 and walks away as a top 5 manager of all time. Though Meintkiewicz is definitely a future managerial candidate somewhere if not here.
