    I say to the DL with him. put him on a minor league rehab till the minor league season ends then bring him back up. Let him get a few more starts in September to finish out the season. This gives him whats left of this season to find more velo or to figure out how to reinvent himself.

    The bullpen looks fine going into next year. We may need to sign a decent arm and maybe a minor league contract for added competition. But I feel good about our rotation and pen moving forward.

    I agree with the 50-80 game suspension. There are accidents like the example above about Sale. And there are some that may or may not be but when doubt about whether it is an accident or not is this strong in favor of it not being an accident then there should be punishment. nobody in this sport should be thrown at intentionally except maybe the Whitesox and Harrleson but seriously intentional beaning needs to have longer and more expensive penalties. I also think if a player has to be DL'd because of an intentional beaning then the pitcher should be suspended without pay until that player can play the field again. That would go a long way toward ending intentional beaning, also the decision of whether the beaning was intentional should have a decision process whether it be the commissioners office or umpires or arbitration panel and the decisions should include a chance for the pitcher to say their piece but the decisions should stand.

    Buxton needs reps after a lost season of injuries. Can we send him to the instructional league? Or winter leagues

    I like this return better than Watson and 500k international cap space for our closer last year.

    Mauer's production at 5-6 million fine I can live with that. at 23 million we need to cut the cord. Lets see how much he costs for next year. but due to not many options and only a stop gap is needed I see no reason why if Mauer wants to play next year they don't just resign him.

    I look at it this way. what can we expect Mauer to accomplish next season? I think he would play around 120 games at 1B and 20 games at DH so about 140 games next year. I am confident he will play near gold glove defense. He will not give away outs on the bases. While his average will probably be between .270 and maybe .290, his on-base percentage will likely be in the .360 - .380 range. (That is his ticket as we have no one else in the lineup who gets close to that on a regular basis) as far as power goes he does hit 2Bs at a decent enough clip. can he get 30 2Bs? or at least 40 XBHs next year. I feel like he does a lot of the small things well and I can see the value of having him on the team. just not at 23 million. Also I don't think Austin is his long-term replacement. I am confident we have a good option coming through the system such as Rooker, Killeroff, Larnach, and Jeffers. As long as Joe isn't blocking one of these guys for more than half a season I am good with him being here.

    The thing about Van Steensel is I feel vested since i've been reading Seth's articles and comments for so long I would like to see him get that Tommy Watkins cup of coffee in the bigs....

    The first choice to bring up is clearly Romero. If we are counting on him in the rotation next year, he needs to be here. Gonsalves and Littel or Slegers. Rooker is a player we want up, but it makes too much sense to wait. Would like to see some bullpen pitchers up. Not too picky but two or three deserving pitchers. We will bring back Mauer and Rodney the other three are gone (Forsythe, Belisle, and Santanta) i can see us signing Forsythe to a minor league contract with spring invite. Our rotation for next season is shaping up to be: Berrios, Gibson, Pineda, Odorizzi, Mejia with Gonsalves, Slegers, Littel, Thorpe, and Stewart so dont be surprised if a deal is made between the end of this season and the end of spring training for Odorizzi. We may not have the best rotation but we sure lead the league in depth starters available. I can also see us keeping Grossman as he does have a league average bat and high OBP. Or high enough for a bench bat.

    After looking over the list of potential 1B options, I don't see too many that I would prefer over Mauer. This makes me believe he will definitely be back next year to play 1B again as long as he wants to come back and play. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2018-19-mlb-free-agents.html I looked at OFs and 1Bs and 3Bs and DHs and i could only come up with maybe Granderson and Nelson Cruz on full time basis and Reynolds, Jose Bautista and old friend Danny Valencia would be a good right handed platoon option with Mauer if we decide to get more depth there. but there really aren't that many good options for 1B. I am also confident that the Twins will want Rooker in the minors for part of next year too so I doubt he opens next year in the majors. What say you the reader. if not Mauer who should man 1B from the list of available FA? From any position as well?

    I thought this guy may have a chance to at least make some appearances with the Twins at some point. he does have a 3.07 ERA and a 10k per nine innings with 4.7 bb per 9 as well but apparantly he isn't enough of a prospect to keep around right now with all the new prospects from trades and all. Surprised we couldnt trade this guy somewhere. Even for cash or a negligent return.

    Isnt AAA where a lot of veteran breaking ball pitchers go? Maybe its just adjusting to a bunch of breaking balls and the annual wear down that occurs

    Since we already gave up this year, why not. We find lots of treasure on the scrap heap all the time.. .McGill, Grossman, Pressly if you count rule 5 as scrap heap, Kintzler, LaMarre, i know there is more. Matt Guerrier.... Though i would like to see our scrap heap guys get a chance. If we are gonna tank it would be cool to see our fringies get a chance to see if they stick.

    in 2014 Kohl Stewart and Gordon were barely getting started and in the lower levels of the minors. scouts whiff all the time on lower level minors. but i do suspect we will get more value from Sano, Buxton and Berrios with Gordon and Stewart providing some value too. I am not worried about one down season as those happen. But if Buxton is injured all next year too is cause for concern. Sano I hope got the message and hope he comes to spring training next year at 240 lbs. Time will tell.

    There were 3 trades that stand out. Ynoa and $4 million for Littell and Enns. This was a fair trade with potential. $4 million is a little steep however. Murphy for Moya. Murphy doesn't seem to be much more than a back up C. If Moya turns into a solid 7th/8th inning pitcher then we win this one. Kintzler for 500k international space and Watson. I don't see Watson being anything more than a LOOGY at best though I could be wrong. The 500 k International spending was the key to this trade depending on what they did with these funds. These funds plus more were turned into Pearson and that C from Seattle. I liked those trades. Now for the moves I didn't like. Letting Chargois go for nothing. as much as we had invested in him we should have been more patient. I am fine with Burdi going since he is out till 2019 and his medicals are not promising as Atlanta didn't want to take a chance on him after reviewing his medicals. Letting Rodriguez go as a minor league free agent. He was only a pitcher for 3 seasons and succeeding in AA. We let him go as a minor Free agent for nothing. I did not expect him to be as good as he has been but i thought he would be a solid 3-5 starter more likely a 4th-5th starter. I think we let him go due to the volume of back end starters we had at the time. I never would have guessed that Goodrum would have the season he had so I cant complain about letting him leave as a minor league free agent.

    Loosing Dozier was a loss for Twins fans. In 2 more seasons he would likely be a top 5 in franchise history in HRs. And he finishes his career 2 SB shy of 100 so the Twins miss out again on someone not quite getting 100 SB. There are quite a few players who come up just short in this department.

    I look at the Lynn trade with the Yankees and Duke to Seattle as part of a three team swap as Seattle and Yankees also completed a trade and all three trades happened close together. Looking at those two trades as being part of the same transaction, how would you grade that Tom and Seth.

    Even I think Belisle is done and I am anti player dumping. I dont question bringing him back but his performance clearly shows he is done. I think he should have been let go by the all star break at the latest. He can always be hired as a coach behind the scenes.
