  1. Offensive output can change quickly if Buxton and Correa just do what they should be doing and if Gallo and Kepler are removed from the equation. You quickly gain a couple of top hitters and shed a couple of bottom hitters. Those two things would be an incredible improvement. Now... bring in a hitter and add to it. This pitching staff is good. Let's help them out.
  2. OK... in order to put Pagan in position to succeed. Does he remain in this low leverage role when Ortega is called up to replace the injured Stewart? Does Ortega then get the tougher assignments in order to keep Pagan in low leverage roles to keep him in position to succeed?
  3. Exactamundo. This is a pretty important point. I'll let everyone else discuss low leverage. Meanwhile, Pagan just moved up the ladder and with another injury he will move up the ladder again. There is no hiding... If a manager has to hide someone there will come a time.
  4. In my opinion... We haven't had much mop up duty this year. If the team is down by a run. That isn't mop up duty. Down by two isn't mop up duty either. Those should be ball games yet to be decided.
  5. I think you've nailed the 5 best trades. I'd change the order a little bit. I'd rank #5 much higher. Getting out from the Donaldson deal was huge. I don't believe Correa winds up in Minnesota without that trade. We would probably still IKF at SS. I'd go 1. Ryan Trade 2. Donaldson Trade 3. Escobar Trade 3. Gray Trade 5. Odorizzi
  6. You do have to invest in the bullpen but it is not necessarily money that you must invest. You must invest a talent commitment to every single spot in the bullpen. Twins are 26th in bullpen spending. Pagan is drawing over half of the bullpen payroll at 3.5 million. Duran, Jax and Stewart are making the minimum. If you take a look at the best bullpens in baseball this year. It's not money they are investing to make them league best bullpens. They are investing talent from top to bottom.
  7. Very well reasoned post. The Yankees gave up a significant trade package to acquire him from the Rangers. Duran and Smith are important players for the 1st place Rangers today. Players like Gallo clearly have value. The Twins paid 10 million so someone else had to be in that ball park. However... When it comes to the Yankees and Gallo... The Yankees got out. Pushed him right out of a moving vehicle. A contending team subtracted him at the trade deadline in order to rebuild the OF. Picking up Benitendi and Bader at the deadline. Giving up a decent starting pitcher just to improve the Gallo OF. I don't see a different Gallo from the one the Yankees cleared off the roster for replacements and clearing him off the roster for replacements is what the Twins should do. Gallo being Gallo works better when he isn't surrounded by guys who are also low batting average and high strikeouts. As it stands... he just the leader of the low batting average high strikeout crowd.
  8. I don't know... He's only 1 for 3 tonight.
  9. You do better when you provide two options.
  10. Featuring Jeffers and Strider in the morning.
  11. According to my personal velometer that I purchased at Target the other night. 694 MPH.
  12. It just looks to me like he laid up... Kinda coasted toward the ball and he didn't appear to be taking a direct angle toward it either. The funny thing is -- If he would have made the catch... It would have been in a low probability zone and one catch in a 20% probability zone can raise his defensive metrics to the point where Brock doesn't post his current defensive numbers that started this discussion.
  13. The Cardinals would not need an outfielder nor would they need an infielder. They have a long list of major league ready players and a decent list of prospects behind them. The Cardinals would need and most likely ask for pitching in return.
  14. Expectations have been smashed on both sides of the aisle and this happens every year on every team. It goes to show... All front offices not just the Twins get it wrong and they often get it wrong. It's easy to know what the expectations are for front offices. Just look at who they chose and what the chosen ones have done. Castro wasn't supposed to make the roster. Polanco wasn't ready so Castro headed north out of Ft. Myers. Gordon, Miranda, Gallo and Kepler were opening day starters. Castro has been better than all 4 of them. Castro has also been better than our chosen SS and CF. Jeffers started the season playing 1 game out of 3 behind Vazquez. Jeffers had horrible splits against right handed pitching last season. Top OPS against RH pitchers on the team currently belongs to Jeffers so maybe he isn't a split candidate. All front offices get it wrong often, fans get it wrong often. You have to let players honestly compete and let the players decide. Castro and Jeffers have won the competition as of June 26th.
  15. For those who are waiting to be better before trying to get better. Our pitching staff is pretty dang good. Getting them some offensive breathing room is a good idea.
  16. That first month... The Gallo signing looked brilliant. It wasn't.
  17. I will agree that the off-season outfield plan didn't work out. I will agree that McCutchen at 5M is much much much much better than Gallo at 10M. However, Cutch back home in Pittsburgh is what should have happened. Personally, If I'm going to use hindsight on the front office (I'm not). I have to use it on myself in order to be fair. I remember thinking offense was what we needed so I was thinking about the best bats available. The OF that I suggested was Mitch Haniger. He has continued to be oft-injured with a .653 OPS this year when healthy. Haniger would have cost us 43.5 for the next 3 years. I was wrong. The other free agent that I wanted was Brandon Drury. I wanted Drury because of his bat and positional flexibility. He is looking like a bargain 17M for 2 years. I was right. So far needs to be attached to both my right and wrongs.
