    Let's forget names because their evaluations are subjective from organization to organization. Let's just use Good Ole Fashioned numbers. Let's say the Dodgers are willing to offer a value of 80 to acquire Flaherty. And the Twins are willing to offer a value of 85 to acquire Flaherty and because it's the Twins... They are asking for 90. Are you saying that the Tigers will trade to the Dodgers in that scenario? Take the lesser package in other words. Or Is it possible that the ask was too high because once the Twins refuse that 90... They don't have an 85 to offer... Maybe it falls down to a 75. And therefore possible that the Dodgers had a better collection of players they were willing to part with than the Twins did after they refused the high ask of Jenkins. I have no idea but I think it's entirely possible that if the Twins and Tigers did indeed talk about Flaherty. Once the Twins ruled out Jenkins, Lee and Emma for the rental of Flaherty. Is it possible that the Tigers liked Liranzo better than Festa or Keaschall for example. Personally... I'm inclined to believe that the Tigers liked the Dodgers offer the best out of all the offers that were left standing on the table as the trade deadline drew to a close.

    Alas... I'm spitting into the wind. Too many years of this narrative being built for real life examples to change a mindset hardened by years and years of narrative. Dan Hayes is applying more cement.

    If this was indeed the stance of the White Sox and the Tigers. Good for us. Because it would mean that the AL Central has two General Managers in our division that are willing to take a lesser deal in order to remain a child instead of an adult professional trying to get the best deal for their organization. I love it when the opposition self imposes handicaps upon themselves for no reason. Obviously... this is a Twins - White Sox issue. They are probably pissed about Escobar turning into something so they said never again and all new GM's with no such baggage sign a pledge when they take the job so they have such Twins bug a boo baggage. There is also a rule in place that all GM's must stand on one foot and hop up and down in perfect 4/4 time while typing. Little rules in place to make the job just a little harder to do. The White Sox clearly hate the Twins but they are OK with the Royals. Chris Getz himself was traded from the White Sox to the Royals so Paul DeJong following in his footsteps is hunky dory. As long as its not the Twins. The baseball narrative is covered under piles of this type of garbage that purpurates the story of inept GM's.

    Baseball is full of lore like that. July 29th, DeJong went from the White Sox to the Royals in a deal... Frankie Montas went from Cincinnati to Milwaukee with Weimer to Cincy. On July 27th... Jesse Winker went to the Mets from the Nats... Danny Jansen was traded from the Jays to the Red Sox. On July 26th... the Rays traded Eflin to the Orioles. Michael A. Taylor played for the Twins just last season. Sawyer Gibson Long is on the 40 man roster of the Detroit Tigers. We put people in the broadcast booth who perpetuate such lore. Rays made a big deal today... Randy Arozarena was traded to the Mariners for a couple of prospects He would have looked good in pinstripes. That wasn't going to happen. I'm sure the Rays had no interest in trading with a division rival so off to the Mariners he goes. Bye Bye Randy Arozarena... no longer a member of the American League East. There's a fly ball... left field... It's going to be an easy catch for ALEX VERDUGO. Randy Arozarena to the Yankees would just haunt the Rays over and over again. The Rays probably didn't even pick up the phone if Cashman was calling. Two outs now for the Phillies... JT REALMUTO coming to the plate to try and get something started.

    I have often said... Buyers Buy and Seller Sell and anything else is just standing still. Sure looks like we stood still and we did so for the 2nd year in a row. So yeah... I'm disappointed. With that said... I will manage my disappointment because I have no idea what trade conversations took place. I have no idea what the ask on individual players were and I can only imagine what teams wanted from other teams in trades isn't going to just match up with Twins prospects who are ranked similarly. For example: Arozarena to me appears to have gone fairly cheap but what do I know about what the Rays scouts think is cheap. They took a Single A pitcher and Single A OF... So could we have offered Soto and Winokur who seem to be similiar value. But what I don't know is... Did Tampa like those players over the players they got from Seattle? I don't know... Maybe they were asking for Jenkins from the Twins? Now how do we feel? Kikuchi... was a rental. I don't really care for Kikuchi because the guy has been real bad lately and never really been spectacular in my opinion. The Astros gave up a lot... their top minor league arm along with a current young MLB player in Loperfido that I'd love to have in the Twins system. Plus another top 30 prospect in Wagner. FOR A RENTAL. I can type Buyers Buy all I want but if the Twins would have gave up Festa, Julien plus Severino to get Kikuchi... I'd be pissed. Anyway... Buyers Buy... Seller sell... anything else is standing still. This is the 2nd year in a row... I'm disappointed but lack the information to be pissed about it.

    It's real simple to me. I always knew that cutting the cord was an option but I never really considered it because cable was satisfying my entertainment needs for the moment. That is no longer the case. My cable provider has shown my vulnerability. I consider the past three months as being taken hostage. I don't consider it as bad as being held hostage by Iran or Canada... but being taken hostage none the less because my choice was taken from me, my normal summer of following MY TWINS was ruined as far as I'm concerned. I will call Midco to find out what my upcharge will be. I will ask what else I get by moving up a tier. I will probably pay it but my research into how I can CUT THE CORD and get WHAT I WANT so I'm not dependent upon people who so easily take what I want away will continue. I will wait for the Twins and Major League Baseball to decide on a plan moving forward. I will look at the cost, and add that to my considerations of escaping from the Cable TV. I'm happy it's back... My level of pissed is still pretty high.

    If they are just going to shield Emma and Jenkins from left handed pitchers. You can trade them now. That may be a shocking statement to some and it may be considered an extreme reaction to a personal irritant. However... I am serious. Hiding your developing players from something that could be developed is not development. Shielding Emma and Jenkins from left handers are going to require shields... that means more Margot and Farmers types replacing Margot and Farmer next year and the year after that. If you don't sign Margot and Farmer types... then young developing players will have to be the shields and work the short side of the platoon. This kills the development of young right handed hitters. The way they are handling Julien, Wallner, Larnach and Kirilloff. It won't hurt to trade Emma and Jenkins now. It may actually help.

    I assume every team has budget considerations. The Twins have ranked between 15th and 19th in team payroll for the past 5 years. I assume that we are going to be in that range going forward as well. Based on those two things... I stopped worrying about how much we spend along time ago and I worry more about who we spend it on. I don't want 4 million here and 4 million there being spent on innings eating pitchers or short side platoon players. I will judge this front office on development. Because that's how we survive.

Designated Market Area (DMA) - 15th Total Survey Area (CSA) - 15th Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) - 16th Combined Statistical Area (CSA) - 16th If you are using any of those 4... I wouldn't... but if you are. Here are the teams in front of them... Let's use the MSA because it seems to be the most popular for market size crowd to quote. Yankees (1) Mets (1) Dodgers (2) Angels (2) Cubs (3) White Sox (3) Rangers (4) Astros (5) Braves (6) Nats (7) Phillies (8) Toronto would squeeze in here Marlins (9) D-backs (10) Red Sox (11) Giants (13) A's (13) Tigers (14) Mariners (15) That's 19 teams ranked higher So - Minneapolis (16) is 20th Ranked: That leaves Teams Below Rays (17) Padres (18) Rockies (19) Orioles (20) Cards (23) Pirates (27) Reds (30) Royals (31) Guardians (33) Brewers (40) But again... I sincerely with sugar on top highly recommend not using any of the media market designations for this purpose.

    Great post. One problem with your final paragraph one foot in the grave approach is that Ilitch and Seidler certainly tried but were unable to purchase it.

    Yep he's another consideration. Although... it makes me sad to suggest other considerations. I'd rather believe that Camargo has a shot.

    I believe that you play a player when he is hot. I'm ok with Vazquez getting more starts for the time being. Two out of three starts is ok with me. The Twins and Rocco seem to play more of a long game. When Jeffers was hot and Vazquez was not hitting at a major league level at all or close to. Vazquez still started every other game. At the catcher position... my biggest concern remains... 17 games - 6 AB's. In the near future... August, September, Playoffs... don't know when... I don't know who... but some time in the near future... I'm willing to bet that either Jeffers or Vazquez is going to be hurt. When the injury or injuries happen. We will need Camargo. It will be an acute need at that time because of the playoff push and the season coming to a close. Our third catcher was not allowed to compete for a job when it wasn't quite as acute. He wasn't given a spoonful of experience in those 17 games (one tenth of the season) to put in his pocket for use when his name will be called out of necessity with the chips on the line. 17 games - 6 AB's held back for 198 AB's - .554 OPS. Camargo or the free agent pile in the stretch run? Camargo or Barnhart? Camargo or Yan Gomes?

    I haven't heard anything. However... if I were to speculate. The Tigers have a good mix of left handers and right handers in the bullpen for a bullpen game. In other words... they could go any direction so it's smart to have a left handed hitter on the bench for a bullpen game. If Rocco did things like that on occasion... I'd complain a little less about our platoon system because it wouldn't smell as rigid. Then again... maybe Larnach was hurt.

    Very true... Those numbers are real... It is not just the Twins creating those numbers. Although, the Twins are one of a few clubs that pour cement on their lefthanded hitters in response. Letting it harden at the beginning of the flail.

    Can't have everything with a 26 man roster would be my answer to the real problem you list. I haven't seen an answer to why Larnach and Wallner against left handers is more worrisome than Margot against Right handers. Margot has 110 AB's against Right Handers. OPS .489 Compared to 96 AB's against Left Handers. Margot has done a nice job against left handed pitching. How do we stop giving back those gains when he faces right handed pitching more often?

    Buyers buy and Sellers sell. Either way is progress toward an eventual positive outcome. If a team does neither... they are standing still. My wish for Cleveland is that they stand still.

    About a year ago... in an attempt to get past a tenseness in the air. I constructed a single sentence with 5 coulds. It was a personal best. I was unable to convince Rocco to join me for dinner but he did agree to a road trip clown car style to Red Wing. I can (could) uncomfortably fit 4 people in the back of my Kia. August 1... have your questions ready.

    I could have dinner with Rocco and he could try to explain Camargo's presence on the 26 man. He could use charts, graphs, speak very slowly, clearly and I still wouldn't understand. He's glued to the bench with Vazquez and his .515 OPS seemingly too valuable to yield playing time. I'm sure 7 AB's is all he needs to be ready for an injury to one of our catchers the final week of the season when every game decides our playoff fate. He's going to be well prepared to help to us all of sudden in the playoffs because of an injury to one of our catchers right before the playoffs begin... Full of confidence I'm sure because Rocco has shown him that he believes in him. Yeah I know... Camargo wouldn't have to play in the playoffs because we have Vazquez to play every day instead.
