  1. Gray came up twice with the bases loaded and put the ball in play both times. That makes him the Twins' best hitter so far this season; no one else has come close to doing that.
  2. Can he play third base? Royce Lewis is in another deep slump.
  3. He is 29. He has proven himself useless with the bat. I like the flow and he may be a great guy, but, please. Whiff.
  4. I say put him in left field and let him play. He's an athlete.
  5. You win with stars. The Twins need Matt Wallner to be a star and I hope it happens. All the stat-heads prefer Wallner to Larnach, but if you have a runner at second and need an RBI, Larnach is better.
  6. Plausible. But if they use a six-man rotation, and nobody goes more than five innings per game, which is the Twins's pattern, then the bullpen is going to be worked VERY heavily. No lead (should they get any) will be safe. Will there be a designated seat on the Blue Line for AAA pitchers filling in at Target Field? Because they'll need a pitching staff of fourteen.
  7. This argument is, "Send them out there to take their lumps," and it is a plausible one, as long as two or three of them don't also need surgery, and Bailey Ober gets some velocity back. It seems at odds with Tom Pohlad's pronouncement that they intend to compete this season. If Ober continues his regression, then you have Ryan, Woods-Richardson (whom I like), and then three of the four -- Abel, Bradley, Matthews, and Festa -- have to prove they are for real. That is a lot of hoping. Meanwhile, Zach Littell, who pitched 186 innings last year, would, presumably, be a lot cheaper than Giolito.
  8. Plouffe is the best of the ex-players on the broadcasts -- the most fun. Tom Pohlad says he wants to earn trust, but he doesn't want to talk about the payroll. And there is a problem. We are told the low payroll is a necessity, but of course the books are closed, so we are required to take this on faith. That's simply not good enough. You want us to believe? Open the books. As Ronald Reagan used to like to say, "Trust . . . but verify."
  9. All three have recent injury issues. Twins have many more IFs than they do stars.
  10. One of the greatest baseball quotes of all time is Tom Pohlad's confession that when they reduced the payroll after a winning season they failed to consider both the short-term AND the long-term consequences.
  11. The Twins have been training their starters to go short for years, so the bullpen has to be ready to go at least four innings every game. That puts maximum stress on an overmatched group. Zebby has to go to the bullpen and probably one other youngster. Then the Twins have to let them learn by doing, with predictable failures along the way. Joe Ryan will have smoke coming out of his ears.
  12. Everyone is so down on Larnach. In 2025 the Twins had THREE players with 60 or more RBI, and Larnach was the third. What player on the current roster do you have confidence can drive in 60 or more next season? The honest answer is one: Byron Buxton. The other over 60 is another player everyone loves to hate, Brooks Lee. SOMEBODY on the team needs to be able to bring a runner in from second now and then.
  13. What possible point could there be in keeping him at AAA? To hold onto James Outman? If the Twins need Outman they're utterly lost. Nobody else in baseball wants him.
  14. Ryan for Adley Rutschman. Then you can let Jeffers go. I would think he (like Ryan) wants the chance to win someplace, so is unlikely to stay.
  15. He said raise the floor, not the ceiling.
  16. Is there still a AAA world series? If so, the Twins have a chance.
  17. Can we imagine a day, not too far distant, when the hundreds at Target Field see Kreidler, Outman, Jackson, and Brujan in the lineup at the same time? That's four guys who have absolutely proven they can't hit major league pitching. Then imagine, say, Joe Ryan trying to win a ballgame and the steam coming out of his ears. Derek Falvey's "next big push" rolls inexorably on.
  18. When Tom Pohlad took over he commented that when the Twins "rightsized" the payroll to the tune of $30 million, it seemed like a good decision at the time, but they had failed to consider both the short-term and long-term consequences. Are they at it again?
