  1. I thought I read that AK was not on the taxi squad, so I don't know about that. I guess whoever they pick for the 27th man will depend on who else besides Garlick is going to the COVID IL.
  2. I believe Rooker is eligible to come off the 10-day IL at this point. I haven't heard any updates on his status, but if he's ready, I imagine he would be the one to replace Garlick on the active roster since they are both right-handed bats. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Kirilloff come up to replace Cave sometime soon though. The only problem would be losing a bit of defensive versatility, as Cave can play CF (kind of) but Kirilloff cannot.
  3. At least wait until our favorite ballclub gets away from the coast before you start wishing for that...
  4. Good questions... I had tickets to the Monday night game, and they have already given me a refund for those. I can't find any details about how it works if you have tickets to the Tuesday game. Maybe try calling the box office to ask. I was really looking forward to finally seeing some live baseball, so I'm selfishly hoping that this series actually gets played, but first and foremost, let's just hope that everyone in the Twins organization is healthy at the end of all this.
  5. I heard this call on the radio, and I had no idea this was a rule. Leave it to baseball to be so complex that I'm still learning new rules after a few decades!
  6. What in Sanó's history makes you think that he'll hit better after being benched? He broke out in 2019 after the Twins kept him in the lineup through a similarly poor start to the season. He finally had a good game yesterday, so I don't think now is the time to bench him.
  7. Believe it or not, but both of our catchers have been less productive than Sanó at this plate this season...
  8. In Rocco-speak, this could mean anything from being available to pinch-hit tonight, to a 10-day IL stint... I sure hope it's closer to the former than the latter. I am very sick of seeing Jake Cave try to hit against lefties and play CF.
  9. Per Betsy Helfand on Twitter (since I don't know the fancy way to embed tweets): The Twins are planning on having Byron Buxton (hamstring) go through a full workout today on the field. He'll hit and run and test things out. Baldelli: "We're going to see exactly where he's at. I think today will be a pretty good day to find out exactly where we sit."
  10. Cruz not starting in Milwaukee was entirely due to the NL not having a DH, so I don't think that's relevant to your point. I was just confused because you used a demonstrably false statement in your criticism, but I do get your point. Counterpoint: For every Ken Griffey Jr. or Cal Ripken Jr., you can probably find a former superstar player that had their career cut short due to playing through injuries, such as Tony Oliva. Perhaps Baldelli is too liberal about resting his players throughout the season, but I don't think it's being done without any basis. They have a strategy (which isn't terribly different from how most other teams operate these days), and it's very possible that this strategy leads to higher overall player performance, along with longer careers. It's tough to say for sure either way.
  11. Sheesh, I don't think I've seen an MLBer swing and miss by that much before... Ask and ye shall receive! Beginning in the second half of this season, MLB is using the Atlantic League to experiment with moving the rubber back one foot, to 61 feet, 6 inches. I'm very curious to see how this turns out, as I think this would be one of the best ways to cut down on Ks and increase balls in play. https://www.mlb.com/news/rules-changes-to-be-tested-in-atlantic-league-in-2021
  12. What did you find negative about this article? I thought it had a pretty optimistic outlook for both players. Now, the comments on the other hand... Plenty of negativity there, but that's to be expected after a 2-5 homestand. I'll take negativity over apathy, at least the Twins have a fanbase who cares!
  13. Huh? Buxton has played in 9 games and Cruz has played in 12...
  14. Garver's K-rate is around 40% as well, and his OBP is 50 points lower than Jeffers so far this year. Neither of them are great options at the plate right now, and I still think it made more sense to pinch hit for Riddle than Jeffers.
  15. This is just more outcome-dependent criticism, and that ball was over Arráez's head anyway. Rocco has his faults, but you can tell he has a process and he sticks with it. The players seem to like the consistency, and it's only lead to one of the best records in the AL over the past 2+ seasons.
  16. Garver hit for Riddle, directly after Jeffers's at-bat. I don't know about you, but I would much rather have Garver hit for Riddle than for Jeffers, and I don't think there was anyone else available on the bench at that point, assuming he was determined not to use Buxton or Donaldson at all. I do think it's questionable that neither of those guys were available for just a pinch hit and an inning or two in the field, but I'm guessing he didn't want to risk anything with those guys in the last cold weather game for awhile. The weather in Anaheim should be little kinder...
  17. I prefer rule changes like this, or moving the mound back, or tweaking the baseball itself, rather than larger changes that limit strategy, like a shift restriction. While the shift doesn't lead to more action, it does reward teams who are more strategic, which can be entertaining in itself, IMO.
  18. Does silent screaming count? I've been doing that since Seager's HR on Sunday.
  19. He announced it on his Twitter account in March, I believe.
  20. However, a 7-inning no-hitter or perfect game would not count in the record books. Quirky!
  21. On the other hand, he made it through two perfect innings throwing less than 20 pitches total. I thought a third inning of Dobnak there was completely reasonable, especially after Sunday's game when Rocco removed a dominant looking Robles in favor of Colome in the ninth.
  22. Sure, I think that's fair. Perhaps if the bats had shown any sign of life, Rocco would've managed things differently, but there's not much to be done when nobody is hitting.
