  1. I don't think they'll want to mess with Sano by moving him again, he needs all the reps he can get at 1B. Gonzalez and Adrianza are more than capable of holding down 3B, and they're both better fielders than Sano anyway.
  2. As long as Cruz only sits once every two weeks, I'm fine with it. He is on the wrong side of 40, after all.
  3. Broken Bats: 4 Most Hits: Polanco Smeltzer Ks: 3 Total Stolen Bases: 1 Game Time: 3:04 Amount of beer I will consume during the game: 48oz Number of aspirin tablets I will consume tomorrow morning: 2 Regrets: 0 Go Twins!
  4. It certainly was disappointing to see Rogers blow that save, but he didn't really get hit hard. Sometimes balls just find holes. What made me the angriest was Romo walking Dyson in the 8th, who then managed to steal second and third and cut the lead to one with no hits. You absolutely CANNOT give a free pass there to a guy with speed and a triple slash of .083/.120/.083.
  5. This is exactly what we saw last season when he was working on tweaking his swing. His bat looked like Swiss cheese for a couple of weeks, but once it clicked, he was all-world... Hoping for more of the same this season.
  6. Adrianza is probably more likely to actually get a hit in a given at-bat right now, but we've seen in the past that the way to get to good Sano is to let bad Sano flail for a week or two... I'm okay with him flailing now if it means he'll find his groove in a week or two.
  7. I think this is an excellent point, and i think it has been mostly overlooked in this thread. We can argue until the cows come home about whether the Twins' success this season is partially because of more well-rested players, or if they would be even more successful without the extra rest. It's very hard to prove one way or the other. Either way, you're going to have to deal with injuries to a few of your starters throughout every season, and giving them regular rest comes with the benefit of giving more playing time to your bench players. I have felt way more confident in the Twins' bench this season compared to prior seasons, and part of that is because they're getting more playing time and gaining experience in important spots. If you're playing your starters every day all season long, and then one or two of your starters go down with an injury, you're forced to play some guys who have done little besides ride the bench and maybe take a couple of pinch hit plate appearances per week.
  8. Hogwash. The Twins have better pitching than the Yankees according to most metrics, and the two teams have very similar offensive numbers. The Yankees do have more wins, obviously, but I'd say the Twins have about a 50/50 shot of taking a five game series from them. Especially given how well they've played on the road this season.
  9. Can you show your work? I prefer my odds to be backed up with cold, hard data. I think a sweep by either team is unlikely. Obviously, TBD vs. Clevinger doesn't look too promising, but I'm comforted by the fact that both Odo and Berrios are pitching this series. I think they take at least one of those games, maybe both.
  10. Unfortunately, each team has only one more off-day remaining, and it's not the same day. If they do end up having to play a make-up game, I guess it would have to be on Monday, 9/30, and I'm sure that's the last thing that either team wants. My hope is that each team finishes far enough ahead in their respective races so that a make-up would be unnecessary. Edit: Ninja'd multiple times!
  11. Judging by the one win and two close losses this weekend, clearly they CAN and ARE competing head-to-head vs. Cleveland.
  12. Well, that sucks. But everyone needs to take a deep breath, they're still 5.5 games up with 20 games left. This team has shown this season that they're capable of battling through adversity. They've got more mental toughness than the negative comment brigade here thinks they do.
  13. Yeesh... a lot of you must have some serious blisters with all of the hand-wringing going on around here.
  14. Retaliate for a stupid move by the Rangers with a stupid move of our own, thus inviting a beanball war and putting our players at even more risk of injury? Brilliant. The Rangers have nothing to lose. They're not making the playoffs so I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige in that asshattery rather than actually playing the game. Beat the hell out of them on the scoreboard where it actually matters.
  15. Why should this be considered a "brain cramp" by Cave? Should guys be expected to stand up there in a blowout and just leave the bat on their shoulder? Especially for a guy like Cave, who's a young player fighting for more playing time, these guys should be up there battling in every at-bat. It's ridiculous that he feels the need to apologize, and it's even more ridiculous that the pitcher still felt the need to drill Kepler. I also hope the Twins don't let this stupid crap escalate any further; make them pay on the scoreboard. Intentional beanballs are for childish losers.
  16. To steal a take from Aaron Gleeman, I really wish they'd start working Garver in at 1B to keep him in the lineup more often. I get that he's much better against lefties, but he's still OPSing .875 against righties with a 123 WRC+. Adrianza vs. righties has a 90 WRC+, and Gonzalez is even worse against righties with a 80 WRC+.
  17. Fangraphs did call him the best reliever traded at the deadline... I'm more inclined to trust his past year and a half of solid performance rather than his two rough outings with the Twins so far with a sore arm. Give him a couple of weeks off, and I think he'll return to form and be a solid setup man again. However, it does suck that he probably won't provide much (if any) value to the team in August, and that alone makes the trade look a lot worse.
  18. You mean the same Craig Kimbrel who has pitched to the tune of a 5.68 ERA, 6.77 FIP, -0.4 fWAR, and is currently on the IL? I think the Twins did well to avoid signing him. I do agree that they absolutely dropped the ball in the offseason by making Blake Parker their top bullpen acquisition, which put them in a very tough spot at the trade deadline. And the three relievers that Atlanta picked up at the deadline haven't exactly had great results so far. I'd still take the Twins' pen over Atlanta's at this point (assuming Dyson can bounce back and pitch like his normal self soon).
  19. These are National League games. In both instances, they were taken out because their spot in the lineup came up and they were pinch hit for. I think every other manager in the league would make the same decision. I'm also willing to bet that Rocco would've left both of them in if it was an American League game.
