  1. Link to the Ft Myers Facebook page announcing his player of the week honor: https://www.facebook.com/FortMyersMiracle/photos/a.195209193924475.36279.190324074412987/1221135827998468/?type=3&theater
  2. A quick update on Mr Rooker's 4th week in Ft Myers. He was named Florida State player of the week - congrats! Anyway great week for Brent - he batted .364 with 3 HR's and 13 RBI's. He also cut his K's in half from the prior 2 weeks. Still would be nice to see a few more walks*. Brent has played 4 weeks in Ft Myers and here are his HR's by week: 0 ,1, 2, 3 . Nice trend, I guess we should look for 4 HR's this week? *I just noticed Brent walked 3 times in Monday's game so looks like he took my request for more walks to heart.
  3. Same here, the Saints Championship game was a turning point for me as well. After that post-game depression, I came to the realization that the Vikings will never win a Super Bowl in my lifetime and I am OK with that. Having lived through 4 Super Bowl losses, the 1998 Championship game etc..that was enough. When Blair Walsh shanked the FG against Seattle in the playoffs - I was like yep that is what we expect. Getting back to the OP - I do find myself less interested in watching football lately. Hard to put a reason for it but some combination that I have hit 50 years old, the games/teams start looking the same to me (maybe related to getting older or it seems like everyone runs a similar passing-based offense), I don't have the DirecTV package so you get stuck watching the same teams on Sunday afternoons, I live in Dallas/Ft Worth so I get the Cowboys shoved down my throat. I have actually enjoyed College football more lately. I stopped playing FF a couple of years ago after playing for 20 years and I do not miss it one bit.
  4. So we are making up for our incompetency with frequency . That is my main gripe - we bunt so often yet we stink at it. At least if we are going to bunt that often practice it to make sure we are better at it or if you are the manager and see that a guy can't bunt don't call for a bunt.
  5. Dang - no Sano again and facing a lefty. Hope he gets well soon. Big void with him out of the lineup - Escobar in the 4 hole. I have given up asking for Vargas or Garver to be called up.
  6. Hearing of Don Baylor's passing brought back memories of his stint on the Minnesota Twins 1987 World Series team. On September 1st of 1987, Boston traded Don Baylor to the Twins for P Enrique Rios. Unfortunately, Twins Daily was not around at that time to weigh in if we overpaid for acquiring him. He played in 20 games the rest of the season batting .286 and interestingly enough getting Hit By Pitch (of which he was a master) 4 times. Baylor had 2 hits in 5 official plate appearances - to go along with another HBP against in the Detroit ALCS. In the World Series against St. Louis he batted .385 with another HBP and 3 RBI's. All 3 of those RBI's came in the crucial and exciting Game #6. The memorable hit in that game was Hrbek's Grand Slam - (Baylor had been intentionally walked ahead of Brunansky who popped to short and then followed by Hrbek). The Twins were up 6-5 at that time and that Grand Slam put the Twins safely ahead. The 2nd top play of that game came in the bottom of the 5th inning - with MInnesota down 3-5, Baylor came to the plate and hit a 2 run HR off of John Tudor which tied the ballgame up and gave a big momentum boost. This would be the only World Series he would win as a player as he sandwiched World Series losses around that win with Boston losing to the NY Mets in 1986 and Oakland losing to the Dodgers in 1988. While his stint with the team was very short, it is nice to recognize and remember Baylor's contributions to the 1987 World Series team. RIP Don.
  7. Rooker has completed 20 games at Ft. Myers and admittedly he is off to a slow start at Single A. Currently batting .200 with 3 HR's 2 Doubles and 9/23 BB/K's. He had an interesting last week batting .261 with 2 HR's including a Grand Slam - but he had only 1BB to go along with 10K's. So he struck out over 40% of his AB. Most of his K's have been swinging K's but this past week 4 of the 10 strikeouts were looking - so it appears he is trying a different approach. They are rotating him between playing LF, 1B and at DH. Now for something completely different - if you are interested in him being interviewed while he was at Mississippi State in 2016 and learning his thoughts on Alien's and UFO's this is the video for you. His interview portion begins at about the 11:30 mark of the video. http://www.hailstate.com/news/2016/4/21/210901988.aspx?path=baseball
  8. That was a very nice play by Polanco
  9. I really think he was just afraid he was going to be called on to bunt.
  10. Where's the sun when we need it
  11. Do we practice bunting or just use real games for our practice. For a team that bunts so much we sure don't do it well
  12. OK, let's call up Vargas or Garver
  13. 2 very close plays - I think Grossman might have been safe but probably too close to overturn
  14. Nice job by Berrios coming back after that first inning, a rain delay and a couple of runners on in the 5th.
  15. Another case of curious bunting. Especially with a not so great pitcher on the mound and Buxton on first.
  16. Not sure I have ever seen a bunt like that but it works for Buxton
  17. Looking for the positive.... Berrios struck out the side - only took 40+ pitches
  18. ....and looks like -100 run differential is in play today.
  19. Well, looks like it is time to watch the National and the Cubs nothing like getting down 3-0 off the bat - Berrios seems to be a little off today.
  20. We also had a couple of complete games pitched this week and a very well rested bullpen so there is no reason we need 13 pitchers.
  21. Grossman makes a play - do you believe in miracles!
  22. This issue came up last night in my mind - not with Mejia the starter but with Gee the reliever. Gee has just pitched 3 solid innings and was at about 60 pitches so coming out for the 8th inning I thought they would bring in another arm as the bullpen was pretty well rested. But Gee came out and the first 2 batters hit him solidly. Not sure why you don't come out with Boshers to start the inning with 2 of the 3 hitters being left-handed. Now we did not end up giving up any runs in this case but that choice struck me as a curios decision. He doesn't seem to have a good feel on when to leave a guy in or pull him - or maybe it is just our pitching is bad - hard to tell.
  23. This season is starting to get a 2016 vibe to it.
