  1. Plouffe had a good run - I remember when he started at 3B there were quite a few fielding misadventures but he made himself into a respectable fielder and found his power stroke. He is not worth $8M a year so I am totally onboard with the Twins decision but hope he finds a good home and has a few more good seasons playing ball.
  2. An argument for signing a free agent or 2 would be what the Yankees did this past season. Relief Pitching is always in high demand at the trade deadline. The Yanks were able to trade Miller and Chapman for multiple prospects (granted those were 2 studs). Say we signed Feliz and/or Holland this year and they built up some "save" value. if we are out of the race come the end of July and we have built up some of our young relief pitchers - Feliz or Holland could be flipped for a good return - obviously less value than Miller and Chapman would get but still good. They would serve as an insurance policy and buffer so the young guys can build up their confidence in less stressful pitching situations.
  3. This is a Groundhog Day of a season - every game seems to play out the same in a loss. What is the positive lesson in removing a young pitcher 1 out away from a 5 inning start and a possible win - how does that build his confidence? Playing and batting Logan Shafer 5th - How can the new regime look at this manager and possibly keep him?
  4. We really have seen too much of Logan Shafer for my liking lately. Can't believe he is batting 5th.
  5. I like the hire - hope he does get named this week so we can start on the reconstruction as soon as possible. I love baseball but I have never been so ready for a season to be over.
  6. Most memorable birthday is easy....October 27, 1991 Twins win epic game #7 and World Series over Atlanta. Can't get a much sweeter present than that!
  7. This has been the longest season I can remember - tough when your playoff chances are dashed in early Spring. Nice to see the young players come up and we have seen flashes of talent - it would be a little more comforting if there was more of a steady improvement. The pitching? both starting and relieving very disappointing - don't know if it is the talent, the approach, the defense, pitch-framing or more likely all of the above but pretty disastrous. Although I still follow every game even this year - My #18 is looking forward to having this season in the rear-view mirror. You don't lose 100 games by accident. Hopefully this season is embarrassing enough that every member of the organization (that remains) will work harder and smarter to make the Twins respectable again. I am not a fire everyone type of person but in this case I would welcome a fresh approach and looking forward to new organization direction - we have developed a losing culture.
  8. I thought I would check how Arcia is doing in San Diego and in addition to getting off to a slow start batting I saw this note: Spin: Arcia made an embarrassing blunder in the outfield Tuesday when he allowed Mookie Betts to tag from second base and move to third when he casually fielded a shallow pop fly, so that may explain why he is starting Wednesday's game on the bench. The Padres are also facing lefty David Price, and Arcia is a career .228 hitter against southpaws, so that made the decision to sit him even easier. Jon Jay will start in right field and lead off in Arcia's place. You have to figure when your on your 4th team of the year you might not want to keep making these type of mistakes. He is still only 25 but he may be getting his last chance. He sure has fallen far the past couple of years.
  9. If I were GM I would bring up Granite to bat leadoff and play LF next year. Of course I might be fired as the GM before the All-Star break. But anyway, I think his skill set would transition well to the majors, he would play solid-plus defense and would be the ideal leadoff hitter.
  10. I sure wish we could switch this year and extend the minor league season to the end of September and end the major league season over labor day weekend. These minor league reports are what keeps me going - thanks for a great job by all who put these together every day.
  11. I am happy that Wimmers gets a shot at the major leagues. Hoping he rises to the task.
  12. After the double-header drubbing nice to see such well pitched performances in the minors.
  13. I agree! I have been following his performance this year and I will caveat this with I have never seen him play and I am certainly no expert but I have a hunch that Granite's skill set will translate well to the majors and we could really use a leadoff hitter like him.
  14. Ahhh Dozier - 2 strikeouts and a double play. Can't get much better than that.
  15. This is Matt flipping Boyd for Petes sake. Did we leave all the bats back in Texas? We got Nolasco pitching - we need runs, lots of runs.
  16. I have Twin daughters which everyone thought was cool since I liked the Twins. At the time I was just in shock to hear the news. In any case they were wonderful through the teenage years so I am lucky. They don't like baseball which is fortunate for them - they don't have to suffer watching the Twins.
  17. First, Best Wishes to Terry! By all reports a solid guy but who had more than enough time on his run as GM. Interesting that he was fired at this time - 3 games after the All-Star break- 2 weeks before the trade deadline and fired rather than a negotiated step-down which I would have expected. Cautiously optimistic this will be good news for the Twins future but we will see what happens next.
  18. Picked a great game to go see - a big Twins win! That was a long game though. Hey, we have a winning record against Texas and Cleveland - we would be dangerous in the playoffs-lol!
  19. At the game tonight - rooting on the Twins. Sitting in the shade, nice breeze not too bad. Let's go for 3 in a row!
  20. Suzuki had 2 of the worst bunt attempts I have seen. That goes along with his pop-up bunt suicide squeeze. Either teach him to bunt correctly or don't ask him to bunt.
  21. I will keep watching soccer if that's what it takes to get us some runs!
  22. I switched to watch a recording of the Belgium-Wales game. More scoring than the Twins can produce.
  23. What kind of 0-2 pitch is that. We just don't play smart. We deserve the worst record.
