  1. I like Rosie on this team. He provides other benefits besides his numbers. No question his defense is not elite, but saying that Kiriloff is better defensively or faster is flat out not true. Kiriloff is slow and not good in left, which is why he played a lot of first base last season. Trevor Larnach's swing actually reminds me a lot of Rosie, but Larnach is more selective at the plate and takes walks. Larnach is also average to above average in right field. Cave and Rosario have very similar trade value to another team because Cave is younger, cheaper and has more years of control, plus he can play center in a pinch. If a team is asking about Rosario, I would ask them if they want Cave instead. Pick one.
  2. Agreed. I was thinking he'd start in April-May, then transition to the pen depending on who is pitching well and who is healthy. They must not think his secondary pitches are good enough or are really concerned about workload. We could always do the Chris Paddack type workload limit as a starter though.
  3. I've had teammates and clients who don't speak english. Nothing against them personally but if you don't speak the same language as someone it's more difficult to build a relationship with them. Speaking through an interpreter is hard sometimes.
  4. We need to root against the Reds. I want Trevor Bauer on the Twins for half a season.
  5. Walker and Salazar are intriguing to me as well. Salazar is going to be a huge flier but some team will sign him for not that much money, he is not old, and he is not that removed from an all star season.
  6. I would most definitely have not. One guy has been a 5 war player 6 of the last 7 years and one has pitched 180 innings only twice in the last 7 years. One plays every day. They're the same age. The cost is similar. One is a competitive veteran clubhouse presence superstar with lots of postseason experience and more swagger than anyone. The other doesn't speak english. Absolutely no comparison in my eyes.
  7. I don't think the Red Sox would require much if we agreed to pay Price's salary. But I don't think they'll sell yet. And I'm not sure Falvey wants Price.
  8. May could be considered elite by the end of the year. He really had an untouchable stretch last year and has the stuff to back it up. He touched triple digits, completely changed his pitch mix and where he throws his pitches and it was like a switch was flipped. He has elite stuff.
  9. Agreed. I could see a scenario where we pick up a half a season SP rental at the trade deadline. Like Trevor Bauer, Marcus Stroman or Robbie Ray. The Reds and Blue Jays think they will be competitive in 2020 but I think not.
  10. Signing Nelson Cruz absolutely helped the team identity. He "was the heart and soul of this club" in 2019- Derek Falvey. Cruz was our team MVP this year. He not only produced MVP type numbers but also had a huge affect on improvement from other guys, most notably Sano.
  11. What division will be worse though? Maybe the NL west, with the Dodgers good, the Padres upcoming and three bad but not terrible teams?
  12. Seriously though, if the Twins asked about Lindor, the Indians would say "Sure, he's yours for Royce Lewis and Luis Arraez." And nope. They're not going to trade to a division rival unless we dramatically overpay. No thanks on that. Story would be (theoretically) more available and cheaper than Lindor.
  13. Poor Kuechel. Do the Twins have the best home run hitting right handed lineup in the history of baseball?
  14. Heck. Yes. So pumped for spring training now. Went from "we will be a little worse than last year" to "lineup and infield defense should be as good or better than last year" with this signing. I think he will add some fire to the clubhouse as well. Much like Cruz did.
  15. Altuve is most definitely a free swinger though:)
  16. Nope! At least on paper. The rotation is worse and so is the lineup.
  17. Fun to think about, but he has no chance. He's been very good for the last decade though. I'm a young guy who's in favor of a small HOF and no PED users getting in. Not Bonds. Not Clemens. Not Cruz. But I still love Cruz and think undoubtedly he was the team MVP last season.
  18. Just sign Donaldson. Even if he only totals 13.5 WAR over 4 years it's a good value. He'll have 10 WAR in the first two years feasting on AL central pitching, then worst case scenario he plays some third and still is worth 2 WAR as a DH in year three and four. There you go. You also improve the infield defense for 2020 and 2021 and probably have the best lineup in MLB in 2020. Do it. The guy has been a 5 WAR player 6 of the last 7 years and would have been the best player on the Twins last year.
  19. He's not a good player when not injured. He's a great player. He won an MVP. He would've been the best player on the Twins last season. Go get him. 4/90 is a bargain. 4/100 is fair. Even 4/110 would be acceptable. He's been a 5 war player 6 out of the last seven years guys. For reference, that's better than 2019 Max Kepler. He was injured only in 2018. He's going to OPS .875 for you, play great defense at third, and he's a gamer. My only hesitation is clubhouse fit but I assume the FO has investigated that since they've already made a serious offer.
  20. It is more likely that Hill never throws a pitch for the Twins than it is he makes a start in October.
  21. Somebody in one thread also was seriously arguing for signing Rich Hill specifically. I'm definitely not excited about Homer Bailey for the same price as Martin Perez 2019. Please give him a short short leash.
  22. This is fun to discuss. Lots of 'pen depth, which can't be anything but a good thing. I think May, Duffey and Rogers will all be elite again. Their stuff is just too good. Once Duffey started throwing his curve harder instead of throwing a slow big hook it was extremely effective at fooling hitters. May needs to keep throwing his best pitch more than half the time- his fastball.
  23. Not much. About one-fourth of Jon Gray from the Rockies. Kiriloff for Gray would be more even. Also Cleveland's rotation is still way, way better on paper for 2020 than the Twins. Clevinger, Bieber, Plesac, Plutko, Civale, possible Carlos Carrasco. We will have Randy Dobnak, Lewis Thorpe and Devin Smeltzer in the rotation who have not even combined for 100 major league innings.
  24. I like it. Nice solid move that should really help the pen.
  25. He's a strong personality that's for sure. Extremely intense competitor. From what I've heard it doesn't sound like he would fit with Rocco's clubhouse chemistry. Twins seem to have a very laid back hands off approach. I trust Rocco to handle it though.
