  1. Nice job, Ben. I hope you excuse me for not wading into the entire list, but was interested in the top 20. I noticed you have several slated to arrive this next year. Are the Braves in a position of needing that many reinforcement from the minors? Also, I wasn't aware that MLB teams, ie the Yankees, could have more MiLB teams than others. Seems that is, or could be, an unfair advantage.
  2. I think we need to be careful about suggesting Mat went down the wrong path here. We are looking at his decision using our own priorities and values, not his; even if we know his reasons. Anyone who has adult children have probably experienced the same feelings. I know I have.
  3. I would agree with your conclusion. Paying an enormous amount of dollars or players/prospects at this juncture makes me nervous. Instead of a number1starter I might be more inclined to go after a fringe1, solid 2 starter. Still would be expensive but not quite as bad. Maybe we already have that in option 3.
  4. Just a side note on Gibson. He looked good in his last game, at least the time I was able to watch. What struck me was how his appearance looked like Tom Glavine. Oh to dream Glavine has been reincarnated on the Twins.
  5. Thanks Bob. One difference I noticed between Capps and Cedar is the Capps looks like he reloads after the hop, like he's moving the rubber forward. Hop, reload the push off, plant and then throw. Cedar seems to use the hop as momentum in a continuation of his delivery - hop, plant the lead foot and throw. Both are different, but I'd say Capps is pushing the letter of the rule, IMO.
  6. Looks awkward. Seems to me that that delivery would increase stress on the push-off leg and ankle and make it more difficult to repeat it consistently. Is Ceder's hop as exaggerated? And how is his control?
  7. When it comes to trades it's a natural tendancy to over value our assets and think that we can hook a quantified need with those assets. It would be interesting to see what other team blog sites are purposing In trades. Are some of the proposed trades being forwarded on other sites?
  8. Excellent, Doc! .
  9. For a team, like the Twins, who have average to maybe slightly above average players, any trades will be for the same level of player. Maybe that wouldn't be that bad if our prospects are able to take up the slack and the player received via trade fills a definite need.. Of course, packages can certainly up the return. TR and staff are certainly going to have to earn their pay this winter, if the Twins want to continue to improve. However, I do believe there will be opportunities to find trades that will benefit the Twins AND clear up the logjam of the roster. Question is, will it happen? Or should I say, "Will the stars align?"
  10. I think the key here may be head to head match ups of the WG contending teams. In that aspect I'd have to say the Twins have the advantage. TX and LAA have 7 games with each other, (I consider those two the most competition for the WG) and each game impacts their position greater in the race. The Twins play the Angels 4 times. They need to split or better that series and do their business elsewhere, and hope the others beat each other up in a bloody draw.
  11. Yes, baseball is a funny game. As difficult as it is after a 4 game sweep of the Orioles, I have to try to temper my enthusiasm because we really don't know what comes next. So, I continue to remind myself, as Mike stated, that this is a successful year and to enjoy it all.
  12. It seems to me that there were rumors of the Twins after Cotts before the deadline. If true, makes one wonder what happened?
  13. Yes the daily diatribe of the ineptitude of TR and the FO gets old. And I cannot defend all the moves, or lack of, that have been made. I do enjoy reading reasonable criticism however. And as has been suggested I ignore those that can't or won't. IMO much of this angst can be placed on one thing, the patience of TR, as Twins7 so aptly stated. After years of horrible baseball and the hope of the first half of this season, many of us were thinking the corner had been turned. We lost sight of the weakness that were there, at least many of us did. Fact is that the Twins are a ways away yet. In many ways this is playing out as we had hoped in last winter. The prospects are getting the experience, the record has improved, and the culture of losing is changing. Still things to do yet. While I was disappointed at the deadline, I'm reserving my judgment til next spring to see what moves are made to bolster this team. As tough as it is to be feel good about this year with the team falling back to earth, it is progress and maybe the plan is yet in place. One has to admit that since the ASG the players, especially the SP, have not performed. Is that on the FO or the players?
  14. Coming into this season the bullpen was not a major concern of mine. Had issues but looked serviceable. And while I've generally given the FO slack, this one they've failed IMO. But I also have to question Molitors decisions here and agree with Spycake. Maybe they knew Perk was hurt so May became the closer BUT the game was most important at Arods at bat. Some of Mollies decision seem suspect lately and surely he must share some blame.
  15. You could be right Doc. I'd like to bring him up personally, as I feel he could provide better upside that Vargas in the future. Kepler has also played 1B, so he could slot in there a few times. Chances are likely less than 50-50 though.
  16. Thanks, James for the clarification. That certainly relieves my concern about next year. I still think they will give him a look see in Sep.
  17. I have to believe that Kepler will be up. Reasons: his performance and his option status. Seth, could clarify if Kepler is in his third and last option year? If he is he will need to be on the roster next year or go thru waivers. I can't see the Twins waiting til spring to see what they have with him. This is assuming I am right about the options.
  18. I believe Berrios doesn't have to be added until after the 2016 season.
  19. I'm not a pitcher, only pitched a short time in college way back, but is it the mental aspect that makes it difficult for many pitchers to execute the inside pitch? (Note: As a lefty I couldn't throw a straight ball if my life depended on it.) Now it seems to me I that with the numerous repetitions they have had over the years that if they can hit the outside corner they should be able to pitch inside off the plate. My unsubstantiated guess is they are afraid to hit someone and put them on base. Some of that might be the team culture.
  20. Talking about how TR should have done this or trade for that player, we sometimes overlook the difficulty in accomplishing that. We need to keep in mind trades don't happen as easy as trading bubblegum cards or fantasy league players. Here is an interesting article at MLB Trade Rumors on the Tulo trade to Toronto: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/08/price-tulowitzki-trades-blue-jays.html Now, given that, while I agree somewhat the cautious approach this deadline, I do wonder if TR has laid the good groundwork for future trades needed to complete the building of this team. He has managed some good trades, and some lousy ones, but the frequency makes me wonder if he is basically adverse to trading. This offseason will be a key for me. I hold out hope that he makes the difficult decisions necessary to move this team into the elite category going forward.
  21. Excellent, well-balanced article, Platoon. I'm pretty much in the same camp as you.
  22. My question is what makes you think they weren't available to trade? After reading some of the comments from various GMs, the trade market seemed to be a tough one and there were several clubs not able to get things done as they wanted. We sometimes forget that there are 29 teams with assets available too. And I agree that August could very well see more trades of some of these players
  23. You are right there has not been any move. My point is that, in my opinion and possibly his, that this is not quite the time. Now, if in the next couple of years a gutsy move isn't made, I'll be totally on your sideline. There will be a time in the not so distant future that one will likely need to be made. I'll be greatly disappointed if he doesn't take that step.
