  1. Agree on the bat vs. defense conundrum. Polanco has had some very big hits, especially in 2017, but he also bounced some throws when the game was on the line.
  2. Her shirt says 'ramen' if anyone is wondering :-)...I wonder if she knows what it means...
  3. Rosales doesn't have the big bat (except in spring training apparently), but is he decent defensively? (We grabbed him to play 3rd as well, I imagine, didn't we?)
  4. Schoop wasn't fooled at all by the breaking ball.
  5. Thanks for the video uploads. I like Gonsalves' delivery motion; it's appears quite deceptive. If he can bring the heat in the 90s, I think he'll be a very good pitcher in the Bigs.
  6. I admit there is some emotion involved and perhaps wishful thinking, but it's not all whimsy and fairy dust either. Personally, I'm not worried about Cron and want to give him every opportunity to show off that power. I am optimistic even (a bit). And, regarding Cave, of course there is a chance that he will regress, but he played decent outfield in that short stint and hit fairly consistently--stuck in the lower-half of frankly an abysmal line-up (hitting-wise), so I have some optimism that it wasn't just a small sample fluke. Concerning Austin, I have neither love nor animus towards him as a Twin; he has demonstrated that he is a poor hitter for the present and maybe for even for life, but personally, I would rather have Austin trot up to the plate in a tie game in the ninth than Adrianza just as I would rather have Joey Gallo take a swing in the ninth inning than DeShields (at least in his present incarnation). The odds are you will get a strikeout, but you might get a bomb instead. Considering that neither or them have anything to brag about when it comes to OBP, I'd rather opt for the home run swing than the flare.
  7. I'm chewing my fingernails on OBP...I know there are a lot of Grossman haters, and I don't argue the decision to give him his walking papers (not speedy, poor fielder and not much power), but you can't deny the fact that he got a ton of BBs (he probably would have an even higher OBP if someone below him the line-up could have actually produced a hit now and then). Since Mauer has retired, that doesn't bode very well for OBP. No one is above .350 except for Wade who has consistently had a high OBP. It would be nice if Polanco could draw a few more walks. Cruz walks about once in two games; Polanco once in three games. After Cruz and Polanco, no one is even above .330 (except for Willians but that is an outlier for the time-being).
  8. I think he's nice to have around to give someone a day off now and then as well. Last year, there were a couple of times it would have been nice to give someone a rest, but the drop-off was steep, especially at the plate.
  9. "I suspect Mariner games are also broadcast in British Columbia. When Ichiro was there, they had a following in Japan as well. Although, that was likely online and not part of a cable deal." The Mariners' games were shown live on NHK on the weekends when Ichiro played, so NHK forked over big time cash to the "dai-league" and Seattle certainly gets their cut. The Angels/Mariners games are going to be the big ticket item for 2019.
  10. He could offer Evenson five of the Upper Deck Kent Hrbek 2013 Goodwin Champions series cards which would cost less than the price of one Bryce Harper. Hrbek isn't even wearing a tacky baseball uniform (suit and tie). If he still doesn't bite, Falvey could throw in an official Kent Hrbek Rapala fishing lure... now that would show some hometown spirit. Not too bad, eh?
  11. I ALWAYS appreciate these minor league reads because it adds some information, a face and usually a stat or two when a player's name suddenly pops up.
  12. Agreed! (The three batter minimum would affect the game in very annoying ways...)
  13. Very, very interesting and the rationale for improvement is also excellent. Thanks!
  14. That makes a lot of sense to me; it's a working leech--not a pet, and this also explains why the leech might sometimes be shorter (resting) and longer (working).
  15. Anyway, the question was about Buxton's leach not his leash. Apparently, he has a pet. I suppose it swims around in the bottom of the ice bucket.
  16. While I would love Realmuto, a catcher is a catcher...until he's not a catcher because he tweaks a knee, takes a foul-tip on his throwing hand or gets conked on the noggin. I am always leery of trading away big assets for catchers because they are so prone to injury. Maybe I would trade Garver + May or Garver + Duran or Garver + Larnach + Reed/Hildenberger or something along those lines, but I would be hesitant to send Kirilloff until we know how much upside he really has.
  17. When he was in his prime as a Twin, he was so tough...as good as anyone.
  18. Nice recap...to date, but I am still keeping the photo until....
  19. I love to add Harper's Ferry to the Nelson Cruz ship. I also changed my photo....
