  1. Is Scott Boras extension adverse, yes but there is a good number of his players that have signed extensions before, usually because the player likes his current team and situation(Weaver, Madsen, Andrus). If he'd truly be crushed to leave a deal would get done I have no doubt. As far as trade value goes, Carl Pavano strikes me as a player with a similar situation and results. That netted the Indians a C/borderline C+ prospect who had excellent stats but underwhelming stuff(Yohan Pino). Value in that trade was probably slightly reduced due to it being a waiver trade, cutting the suitors down to 1.
  2. So minor league contract with ST invite.
  3. If that list is anything to go by its going to be about a decade until he slips my mind, everyone who you mentioned after 2002 I remembered. Didn't mention my personal favorite, Armando Gabino.
  4. One minor thing I'd like to see included in addition to level, what league they played in at that level. California League and Florida State league, for instance, are completely different animals when it comes to hitting.
  5. Any last minute signings?
  6. Didn't the Twins draft Burdi a couple years back, name sounds very familiar?
  7. Relying on his slider. He's thrown more sliders this year than any year since his injury and less fastballs as well. Probably a good move if you struggle with your control regardless of pitch, might as well throw more of the one that generates swings and misses.
  8. What are the chances any of the remaining high school players sign?
  9. For me following on gameday, is there a reason Mauer didn't score on Doumit's double?
  10. I don't think pool has that much value. Why would someone trade prospects to acquire prospects? Not to mention the haul received for international money this year wasn't exactly world shattering.
  11. Seeing Gibson pitch and reading Parker article earlier reminded me about some things Common said late last week: "Everyone was talking about Plouffe and Parmelee the same way as Buxton and Sano and we know how they turned out"(Ignoring the fact Plouffe as been at least decent). "Clearly the league has figured Gibson out" "Buxton is a showboat, he could have easily made that catch without diving"(referring to the catch from the televised game). "The bullpen is terrible". I live out of the Minneapolis radio market, is he really as clueless as he seemed or is it some sort of shtick/persona?
  12. Feels like Tonkin's been in the system forever, glad he's getting a shot.
  13. Minier is a SS in the same way Sano was when he was signed, very little chance he sticks there.
  14. His K% has actually been slowly improving over the past few years when you look at PA rather than AB. K% per AB is a pretty poor way to evaluate a hitter who walks as much as Sano does. That .306 average is a mirage as well, he's not going to have a BABIP of .390 going forward. OBP may be up but again that's average driven as his walk rate is actually down somewhat compared to last year.
  15. Don't think the prospect has to be quite Alex Meyer level(even if he's dominant Perkins effects less innings then Span) but you are right, there's a number of reasons he's worth holding onto if a good return isn't there. That said, the compelling reason for trading Perkins is that he's at peak value. He's over 30 and in the middle of what will probably be a career year and is closing effectively. One only needs to look at Willingham to see how his trade value could be significantly reduced in a years time.
  16. Fine where he is, he's been good but his HR is unsustainable and he's walking quite a few. He's been good but for the most part so has the rest of the pen.
  17. Carroll isn't a feasible option, if you release him and any of Escobar, Florimon, Dozier, or Plouffe get injured the only other middle infielder on the 40 man is Danny Santana, and his AA slash line doesn't suggest him being all that close to MLB ready to me.
  18. Thanks for the recap and video, nice to get those look ins.
  19. Remember the days when if we had to choose a starter we'd say: Santana or Radke, or even Baker? Now it's Dudeno, minor league journeyman, or Correia career 5th starter.
  20. Bold statement. They're both great prospects but even great prospects can bust(see Delmon Young. At random I typed top 10 prospects in 2005 into google here's what I got(its not pretty): Top 10 prospects for 2005 - MLB - ESPN
  21. 1. SSS 2. Jose Fernandez is really good 3. Mike Pelfrey is really bad.
  22. I've seen 2 of the guys drafted today in person: Chad Christensen is a very good pick in my uninformed opinion. He was very elite for a guy from the state of Iowa. Iowa HS players are at even more of a disadvantage than other northern states as I believe we are the only state that plays baseball in the summer rather than spring. Has a younger brother worth keeping an eye on, I haven't seen him myself but some friends say he's an even better player. Brandon Peterson wasn't that impressive when I saw him in CC. He threw hard but I don't remember the secondary stuff being particularly noteworthy. Limited the damage but he gave up some hard hits as well. His teammate Cody Beam was the significantly more impressive pitcher.
  23. DickBert is excited about the downward plane he generates.
  24. Mitchell scares me with how many he was walking in college and the lack of a 3rd pitch. I'm fine with missing him. As far as Gonsalves goes I don't get Law saying he's not projectable, he looks pretty tall and lanky to me, might fill out and add a few ticks to his fastball.
  25. Stewart was pretty much consensus BPA there and the Twins really need high upside arms, its a good pick. Not that Windle would've been a bad choice but neither Law or BA seemed particularly enamored with him.
