  1. Might just be me but I find that part of Twins Daily logo being located partially below the red banner to incredibly irritating when reading threads. It covers up poster names as well as slighting running over into the posting box itself. Even if it were more left justified it would be irksome just due to its distracting nature when scrolling down a thread, its like having a rollover ad follow as I browse. Additionally, some minor things that bother me- font size and spacing in posts themselves seems a bit large, don't like how little information fits on the screen because of this. Site would still be readable if you knocked it down a notch. Having the gear represent advanced search is an odd choice, more typically associated with settings. I'd also love the site to be a bit wider(not a new complaint for me) lots of grey around the edges on the two desktop pc's(22 and 24 inch monitors).
  2. .127 OPS isn't terrible, certainly not Ben Revere levels of slap hitting(.060) more like Span and his low to mid .100's power. With BABIP around .300 its not as if the BA is unsustainable either. All of this is SSS of course and its in a repeat of AA which takes some of the shine off, but still a good step nonetheless.
  3. "Berrios has a complete assortment of pitches, probably more than most scouts have seen. His fastball sits in the 92-94 mph range and topped out at 95-96 mph at the Excellence Games." http://www.perfectgame.org/Players/PlayerProfile.aspx?ID=285960 That's from right before the 2012 draft so while he might have added a tick or two he could throw mid 90's previously.
  4. Went heavy on hs players to wrap up the draft, wonder how many are signable.
  5. I'd stop rooting for the Twins for sure and I'd probably lose interest major league baseball for quite some time. Being from Iowa originally, I'm guessing I'd end up rooting for the Royals. A small market team in a city I like and a nice stadium. Doesn't hurt that they haven't been all that competitive when the Twins were(during my lifetime) so there's no antipathy on that front either.
  6. WNAX is what I listen to when I head to the parents in Fort Dodge as well. Night games are more problematic, especially if the Twins are on the west coast.
  7. Roughly what I would've expected in Iowa(except weird Yankees presence, not sure what that's about). One step the Twins could take to help expand that presence further south is some better radio coverage, difficult to get a night game as far south as Highway 20. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/04/23/upshot/24-upshot-baseball.html
  8. Dave Cameron continue to hate Kubel. I don't think he's had one nice thing to say about Kubel his whole career.
  9. Corriea could have been better but jfc defense!
  10. Even more infuriating is Fox Saturday baseball. If St. Louis or the Cubs are on, good luck ever seeing the Twins game. Logic would dictate that since channels are digital you could put the Twins game on 17-2 since it would be considered in market. Radio stations are bit spotty as well, best coverage in my area come from 570 am out of South Dakota, fine during the day but there was a real lack of options are night.
  11. You do get a discount if he struggles next year though, or the foresight not to commit a lot of years to a guy already in his 30's. Signing a guy in his 30's, coming off a career year when you already have him under contract for 2 more years is a highly questionable contract decision.
  12. Living within the constraints of a typical lineup I could certainly live with: Buxton Dozier? Mauer Arcia Sano sometime in 2015.
  13. Your either overrating Florimon's futility with the bat or underrating Butera's. 100 pts of OPS is a lot. With good defense at SS a .600 OPS is tolerable, a .500 OPS isn't, regardless of position.
  14. I'm not wild about Gilmartin, wasn't excited about the scouting reports before he was drafted, that said, I like this deal for the Twins. Looking at his splits and some of the more recent stuff I've read about him, maybe he turns into Duensing? Doumit is redundant on this team, old, and only signed for this year. This is the sort of moves the Twins should have been making the past several years but for the most part haven't.
  15. Or you could've been thinking of http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/johjike01.shtml
  16. Comparing baseball to football in this respect seems pretty asinine to me its a contact sport vs primarily non contact sport. There are deliberate rules already in place about obstructing a runner at the other places on the field, why the discrepancy here?
  17. He mentions questioning Sano's age, I hadn't heard anything on that front for quite some time. Also didn't Sano get a fair amount of extra scrutiny when he turned 16 about his age? Seems like it probably would've come out then.
  18. If this was all a bunch of arm related injuries I might agree but flukey injuries like ankle problems are unlikely to reoccur. Feel this is the same type criticism Hardy received for being injury prone yet has proceeded to be healthy and productive in Baltimore.
  19. No issues giving up Rosario for Brett Anderson, assuming as he's willing to work out an extension. Rosario is a nice B prospect but not an otherworldly talent and he's at a position the Twins got decent cost controlled production from. Rosario could just as easily bust as Anderson. Its what else besides Rosario that Beane would want that might turn me off.
  20. More to the original point some of the struggles should equal out due to regression to the mean. The only 2 players who put up stat lines at or above what their minor league trendlines or historical MLB averages are were Mauer and Dozier, perhaps Florimon as well. Its not hard to imagine at least one guywith solid minor league pedigrees like Hicks, Arcia and Parmelee putting together a better year next year. Doumit and Willingham both struggled mightly and while some of that is probably age based decline it was much steeper then you would typically expect, probably some room for improvement there.
  21. While those expecting him to be up next year might be a bit optimistic, drawing huge conclusions from 50 AB at the end of his first full season of ball is mostly pointless. 2015 May/June is a reasonable time frame, that gives him a full year at AA and a taste of AAA in 2015.
  22. http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/article/does_speed_age_better/ http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-slow-decline-of-speedy-outfielders/ Now obviously Ellsbury could bust but the athleticism speed players possess tend to make them age pretty gracefully.
  23. Ellsbury's average out 5ish wins(even with missing significant time to injury) over the past 3 years, 22 million per is not that bad of deal. Speed guys tend to age well offensively as well so that helps even if he has to move from center in the later half of this contract. I personally see this turning out like Torii Hunter's deal with the Angels, viewed as an overpay at the start but ends up being something close to market value.
  24. Seems like a salary dump by Baltimore to me. Weeks one good season was the product of a very high BABIP. Johnson is going to be overpaid but is actually a talented player.
  25. Mid to upper 20% range, right around league average. If you suspect last year was an anomaly he put up a couple seasons of .700 OPS which is respectable for a catcher. The other advantage he has over some of the other options is that unlike an AJ or Salty you he'd probably sign as backup/given chance to win the job out of ST, letting the team see if Pinto has a future here.
