I guess I'm going to go against the crowd here. I don't think they're going to trade or should trade Ryan this off season. Nor do I think the Skubal trade makes a big difference in what Ryan may or not bring back in a trade. Yes, they definitely missed out on some high-end prospects by not trading him. Same for Jeffers or even Larnach. My reasoning why is: Neither the players nor the owners are going to want to give up much of their 2027 monies...A late start sure, half a season...5% chance. There will be changes, not a complete wrecking ball to what the last CBA is/was. By May of 2027 a starting staff of Ryan, Pablo, Bradley, Prielipp and Kremer is a powerful augment to keep the band together. Abel, Matthews, Rojas, Festa(hopefully) and Parades all waiting for their shot. The entire bull pen could be back minus Minter and Rogers. If they keep Banda that's 1 BP spot to fill. The entire offense will be back minus Jeffers and Bell. Jenkins, Emma, possibly Mendez and GG (he's been playing 1B lately) should be on the 26 man or taking and Uber back and forth from St Paul all season. With no REAL money spent to this point. That's 3 26-man roster spots to fill with two prospects who may get them before the end of this season and Tom saying they expects payroll to increase for 2027. That could just be arbitration raises...or on free agents. Now throw in that the QO is part of the new CBA. (50/50 chance of that) After 2027 season you QO Lopez and Ryan. That would be 5 picks in the top 75 in the 2028 draft? One last thing. We're in the AL central not the East or NL.

I find Toronto to be one of those teams that prospect rankings tend to swing and miss on a lot. They seem to push players up a level a month or so before the trade deadline whether they earned it or not. Which skews trades in their favor. I mean go look at their prospects from idk..2021 on. Not many big-league regulars there. I don't mind the Hoffman trade as a win or lose. Hill could hurt 3-4 seasons from now. The FO is trying to squeeze 2-3 more wins out of the team. This trade should get them closer to that. Plus, if they tried to sign a similar arm for 2027, I would think 7-9 mil would probably not cut it. UGH. The Varland trade again...I don't believe the FO (or any Twins fan for that matter) thought the AL would be SO bad that they'd have a chance at a wild card for a season or two. I'll take a high velo Leftie in the BP and a 4th OFer at worst. For Varland The Berrios trade I look back at and think if I include where the payroll went by trading him it's a clear win for the Twins. If I don't include that it's a small to medium loss.

Oh god no. He's a depth piece. #4 on a really good day, #6 on a normal day. Who's that guy now? Next year? I'm happy to part with Reyes for the next two seasons of knowing who the next man may be up. Plus I like Duran a lot more. ;P

There's not a lot of potential starters in A+ or AA let alone AAA that haven't already been added. Next year hopefully Abel and maybe by May/June Pablo is back but after that who? Kremer helps fill that gap.

Take a look at Yovanny Durans numbers. Same league this year and younger. Just got moved to A ball after the trade deadline. He might be the better prospect of the two.

I think it's highly unlikely that there is a salary cap. A salary floor, I can see with a big TV network. Spreading the wealth. It'll cost us fans much more to have but be unlimited. That'll likely cost the union at least an international draft. Maybe, but IMO unlikely, the owners will give up qualifying offers for a type of contact structure the gives the teams a free agent comes from an edge in years or dollars attached to the salary floor. Something like the NBA uses. Maybe even harsher penalties for the over tax moneys. To set the table for an actual salary cap If in the unlikely hood some of that happens, I think the Twins did well at the trade deadline.

It's hard for me to give a grade on the deadline moves without knowing if or how much of a 2027 season there will be... With all or let's say 100+ games in 2027..B maybe B- With no or less the 1/2 the games in 2027..C to D+ These includes what they may have gotten for Jeffers and Larnach. Getting Money and another year of control with Kremer and Hoffman is big to me. The Twin's window hasn't even opened yet. Next season if might.

1st lets clear up the 3 catchers thing. Now or never on trying to get Jackson to St Paul. I'd pass on Soler and Garver. Refsnyder I'd be interested in. Does he have options? If so, yeah, no doubt. If not, not so certain GG wouldn't be a better choice.

Hmm. Alot can go right or wrong here. Hoffman to this BP is a good get. A bit of an overpay but such is a deadline trade. The early trades ended up being the better trades value wise. The BP should be 4 deep on a normal day. To go from hopefully two deep to four isn't happening with your 18th round pick last year. Loosing Hill will hurt, no getting around it, IF the Twins make the playoffs, that's the price the Twins had to pay...To be 0-0 in October has some value as well.

Anyway, not an earth-shattering deadline. truth be told GOOD. This team needs a year likely two to start throwing good or better prospects at MAYBE facing the Dodgers. Could have used another starter. With Matthews/Rojas/Prielipp as the 5th starter. things may be fine. Hoffman and Minter are good gets. Another two+ months of hope/complaining/ if we would haves. Been a fun year looking back at the last few.
