  1. I have no idea who they would be willing to trade him to. Isn’t having Lewis in AAA already having a cup of coffee doing well similar to Bieber Clevinger and Carracco? It’s teams that have depth or replacements and are willing to reload and rebuild at the same time. You asked for an All Star I gave you one. I also gave you 2nd. Also it’s no guarantee Correa is an All Star this year but just like Archer and Bauer they still have value because of their pedigree.
  2. Rays Chris Archer July 2018 - Meadows and Glasnow This is not conventional but it does occur and it is done by small to mid market teams that have to continually look at creating value for the organization. There I found 2 in the last 4 years by teams that were competing for the playoffs.
  3. Trevor Bauer Cleveland 2019 July trade for Puig, Reyes and Logan Allen July 31
  4. What did the braves trade to get the mighty Rosario. Pablo Sandoval who was immediately cut. Rosario doesn’t have the value you think he does. The only reason he got the contract he did was because he got on one of his streaks during the playoffs. I am not going to say it’s positively going to happen, but it is a very strong possibility and that you completely ignore it as a possibility is just as questionable. I have given the reasons as to why. The Twins leadership isnt specifically playing for this year. Just like this off-season we could see trades where they are buyers and sellers at the same time.
  5. Your definition of decont are much different than mine. May is your only decent example, but we all know relievers are the cheapest and easiest thing to trade. I will give you the Twins we’re willing to run out the season rather than trade. Again May is no where near Correa. We can agree to disagree. I think you will be mighty disappointed when August rolls around.
  6. Again all those players no one else would want in a trade that year. Odorizzi was on the DL who is trading for him? None of those players will move the needle for a team trying to win the world series. We non tendered Rosario and didn't want to pay him anymore that is a different situation. My guess is they were willing to trade him and couldn't find a trade partner, we were willing to let him go for nothing. When you can dream up a situation similar to the current situation to Correa and state that is the reason it would be crazy to trade him I will agree with you. But your examples again prove my point. If we had kept Rogers we would have 2 more wins most likely. This isn't a dream scenario we would be a better team with Rogers this year. Pagan has done well and I would have done that trade any day of the week, but these are 2 wins we get if Rogers is here. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tyler-duffey-blows-twins-lead-in-4-3-loss-to-royals/id1349600088?i=1000558106980 https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/401354277
  7. You just answered my question. Rogers would have made this team better in the W and L category this year than Paddack and the reliever. However the long term value was beneficial to the Twins. Go read my posts on relievers, I have stated they don't pay squat on relievers. The Yankees didn't forgo trading shortstops in the offseason, they decided to not pay up at the time for an elite shortstop contract. The Yankees have a legit team this year to win it all. Would they be a better team with Correa or Kiner-Falefa. Again I have no idea who the Twins would want. As to Wells lets just look at him - he has improved quite a bit on the defensive side. Add in we are on our way to electronic calls and strikes in the next 2-3 years defensive catchers would be as big of an advantage. Also my personal opinion based off of Sanchez is he has actually been a decent defensive backstop for us this year (he was abysmal for the Yankees), so maybe we are better at teaching how to be better pitch framing than the Yankees have been. As to Yankees trading for Olson and not trading a top prospect they were able to get rid of Sanchez that was an albatross to them and have actually done pretty well with their trade from us. As to the pitchers I have no clue and it could be a 3 way trade. The Yankees may be willing to move chips in at the deadline and marginally improve their team. As to your example regarding whether this front office have traded an elite player while in the hunt - this situation is different than any other situation. We have never been in this situation before to have an elite talent on essentially a 1 year contract, with a prospect who looks ready to take over the reigns and be a generational star. No offense this doesn't happen on a regular basis. Maybe I am wrong, and the Twins don't trade him. However the Twins haven't really let any decent player walk without trading them first and getting compensation back. Based on the trades earlier, this also doesn't preclude the twins of making other trades to be beneficial to the team to avoid a 40 man jam at the end of the year. No one projected 3 trades and Correa signing this offseason. I answered your question, name 1 decent player in the last 5 years the Twins have let walk and go to free agency? You had Gibson who was sick and not performing well and Odorizzi that was injured that I can think of.
  8. Were they in last place when they traded Rogers?
  9. If we signed Correa to win this season why did we trade Rogers? If you trade Correa you are likely getting a top end SP similar to Ryan with higher upside from AAA maybe AA nothing lower. It isn't for this year. Nothing that the Twins have done screams that they are playing for this year other than the Correa signing. I don't pretend to know who the Twins would want. Your most likely trade partner is the Yankees, especially since the Red Sox probably wouldn't trade them Bogaerts. They have 3 pitchers in their top 10 at AAA - one lefty 2 righty's. The also have Wells a Catcher at high A that will likely get promoted to AA shortly. they then have 3 shortstops. Right now I don't see something that pops up right now. Its just I think I have a pretty good handle on this front office, and I have predicted all 3 of the trades, and know they wouldn't want to sign Correa for nothing in return, even if they are doing well, because lets not kid ourselves, this current iteration isn't ready to excel in the playoffs, but we are getting closer. The front office was able to put a good product on the field for us this year though. I think they will get some cheap relief pitching even if they trade away Correa. Maybe I am wrong, but you also have to admit this front office isn't worried about the current impact of today, they are worried about the long term view of the team. At some point we may see them put their chips to the center and try to win it all. Right now isn't that time.
  10. I am willing to make that bet. They have traded Rogers Cruz and Berrios - what makes you think they wouldn't consider trading Correa? If they received a good offer or an overpay similar to last years Berrios trade.
  11. The Twins traded Berrios and Cruz last year - yet Buxton still signed an extension with us. Lets say you trade Correa for a young top end SP, I don't think that changes the calculus on the Twins players and signing extensions in the future. Those 2 trades are one helping us immensely this year (Ryan) - and dramatically improved our pipeline and talent with Martin and SWR. This years trades was primarily moving the deck chairs around opening up some money flexibility and Correa fell in our laps. If Correa states the Twins were a great organization and helped he either get his contract or helped him succeed this year, future free agents will take that more into consideration than fan optics. I think we are slowly improving free agents opinions for SP who want to come to improve their stock on 1 year deals, but with the pitching pipeline coming up that won't be nearly as necessary.
  12. My guess is if the bat continues to heat up, the Twins are in the drivers seat and can decide how they want to approach the deadline. My base case has always been he gets traded. I think the twins view all their players as commodities and values and try to improve the team anyway they can. Now if the calculus is he will not opt out after this year, then they have more time to have him on the team and delay the ultimate trade deal. From my view, even though Correa is a very good player, we were looking for a shortstop for insurance for Lewis. If Lewis flamed out, the Twins could have decided to get a new deal done with Correa if he was interested. The front office will have a dilemma on their hands if the Twins are still in first and they still want to trade him. My guess is they still trade him and deal with the fan ire.
  13. Whoever we take will likely be under slot unless it is someone they really really like. This will be the type of draft where we will try to create an extra high pick through money. Similar to what we did with Enlow. It is smart, so far with Enlow it hasn't paid off primarily due to injuries.
  14. One that is starting to pop a bit is Holland. Another double and triple last night. Has an OPS over .900 for May with what I understand is pretty good defense.
  15. Here is what I am seeing after 2 months Prospects that look like major league talent 1. Canterino (has the most talent of this class, just needs to stay healthy) 2. Steer (continues to do well) 3. Varland (talent has stepped up at AA, but still showing strong stuff) 4. Headrick (his talent is really starting to pop - is having similar stats to Varland from last year in high A) 5. Isola (looks like at minimum a back up catcher) Need improvement but have talent for MLB 6. Julien (elite eye at the plate) 7. Wallner (legit mlb power) Most likely Minor leaguers but could flash 7. Laweryson (has flashed) 8. Gipson Long 9. Mooney (one with the most likely chance to significantly move up in my opinion from this group) 10. Prato 11. Holland (one I am still keeping my eye on, bat is improving has potential to be a utility player) 12. Gross 13. Gray 14. Cavaco (Looks lost based on his stats in low A ball) 15. Legumina
  16. Wow high expectations, 12-5 or 14-3. That means sweeping multiple series and having minimal to no clunkers. With Bundy going out there 4 times during that stretch, the odds we get close to this are slim to none for the 14-3. 11-6 or 10 and 7 is very realistic.
  17. He may not be on a top 20 list, but he will definitely be on a top 40 list. The depth of the Twins organization is very very good. Now if he continues to do this in AA which I think he likely can, then he will easily be on the top 20 list. He is making High A ball batters look silly, I don't anticipate that to be falling off by going up a level, and AA ball is generally the make of break level whether you have the potential or not to play at the big leagues.
  18. There are about 7-8 arms from that class that have the potential to possibly make it to the big leagues. 3 years after a draft that is pretty damn impressive. Canterino is the highest level arm, followed by Varland. Lawyerson, Gipson Long, Headrick Legumina, Gross and Mooney are all having various levels of success. As of this point Cavaco is not finding his bat. There were 3 big swings on players with high upside to improve their plate discipline and hit tool, Cavaco Holland and Julien. Julien appears to be a success and Holland is quietly improving. At high A ball for the last month he has an OPS in the 800's. Holland has as much upside as Cavaco so if he somehow he continues to improve that might negate Cavaco most likely busting out. Steer looks like the stud bat of this class, with Wallner who looks pretty good but defensively not really a position, and then Gray Prato and Julien all doing fairly well this year. Alex Isola in the 29th round could be a very nice find.
  19. In the video he states he gained 3 mph this year, along with developing a third pitch.
  20. Headrick topped out at 91 mph out of college. I don’t see specifics but I would guess he is working in the low to mid 90’s now. Where it gets interesting his current stats. He has over 13 k/9, and also over 7k/bb. That means his stuff is very potent while having excellent control. He has a 6’6” frame, so that low 90,s to mid 90’s pitch is getting pitched closer to the plate and coming from a higher angle allowing for more deception and missed bats. This is another potential arm from that 2019 class. It appears the twins draft strategies are starting to pay dividends.
  21. Isola has a chance to make it to the big leagues, and he is another one from that 2019 draft class. The 2019 and 2021 draft classes are looking very very strong.
  22. An elbow injury to Paddack is concerning as he had the partial tear last year. He did try to treat it and also gave it plenty of time of rest, however, anytime you have an injury it is concerning, anytime it is to a pitcher that has a recent prior history of a tear it is even more concerning.
  23. With a dead ball, an elite defense is necessary to compete, the other is to have contact hitters. We appear to be improving with players that can put the ball in play. As much as pitching has improved, having quality defense that has given the opponent extra outs has been just as important.
  24. Kenta is another arm that can be used. That is the nice thing about what they are doing, They are getting quality arms on decent contracts. There will be less stress on them to do well especially during the season, however, during playoffs the elite arms tend to be needed to do well. We still have a need for 1-2 of those.
  25. It you know of a way to guarantee Correa is here beyond this year I will agree with you. However we all know this is likely not the case. Correa is valuable because we know he is a stud. Lewis is an unknown although he has very good tools. I understand the dilemma, but our front office went into this knowing this was an opportunity to acquire a very good player for 1 year, providing an insurance policy to Correa if he had a poor year. If he has a good year it leaves us in the enviable position of either flipping him for a very good return, or keep him for the rest of the year and see what happens.
