  1. My only deal with this is the actual pitcher himself. Boyd. I don't think he is that great. He had a career year as far as strikeouts go. You put up numbers to compare like this but you only do it for a season. Anyone can have one good season better than another. Consistency. That is what you are looking for IMO. This article makes it seem as if Boyd is a better pitcher than Syndergaard. A look back through their stats for multiple years and an "eye test" look of the type of stuff they have will show that a Syndergaard is a far superior pitcher to Boyd. That said, getting him in here on a trade for some mid or lower level prospects, I'm all for it.
  2. My only question to ask is that if the Twins feel that Boyd would be a good trade target this offseason, why didn't they go after him at the deadline last year when they were in line for a playoff run? What makes you think they will let go of those prospects now when they wouldn't when we needed them to?
  3. My guess? 100-115 million. It should be pushed to 130-150, but will really surprise me if it does. Basically, I will believe it when I see it.
  4. 100% correct here. Why anyone would want to get rid of one of the top 5 bats in the game to plug in a rookie or someone not nearly as proficient at the plate boggles my mind. Cruz was towards the top last year in BA, OBP, OPS, HRS, RBIS. Getting rid of this guy would be insane. Like literally insane. He's one of the best hitters the Twins have every employed and we want to move him so we can make way for a guy like Rooker. LOL
  5. Also BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Trade away half your starting lineup for who exactly? Start 3 rookies that haven't even hit AA or AAA pitching yet. Increase your strikeouts, errors and HRs, and decrease your OBP, SLG, defensive range, and veteran prescense. Hmmmm?
  6. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not an impact bat! Rosario is a much better player than he is. This is a net loss of the nth degree here. Plus you are giving up one of, if not your best pitching prospect for him! Heck no.
  7. Honestly, over the course of his career Cruz might be one of the top 5 hitters of his generation. I'm not moving that guy for anybody when I only have to pay him for one year.
  8. None of what you get back will be better than Cruz himself. You won't get a great arm for him. And if it's some kid in A ball? Flat out, I don't care. Draft that guy next year if you must have it. Save millions that can go towards pitching? Have you looked at what the Twins have available to spend this offseason? It's not the having money, it's the willingness to spend it that has always been the obstacle. Flat out, Cruz is a damn stud and the anchor of the lineup. The #3 hitter. Teams looking to contend don't move a guy like that for an A ball crapshoot. Especially when he is producing and only on a one year deal. Plus, why would you want to give another team you may be fighting for or in the playoffs that kind of weapon?
  9. Why take that kind of bat out of your lineup? For what? Cruz in a midseason trade is worth a flyer type prospect. You don't dump someone like that for a lottery ticket. Cruz is the best hitter in this lineup and he's on a one year deal. Taking him away from a team primed to win like this one would be terrible misguided. Don't overthink it...
  10. Use other avenues. Don't dump a guy like Berrios. Look to your top propsects. Both of their positions are filled with guys that are young and producing. I'm with you on adding high end pitching, but I think moving Berrios for it would be a mistake. Heck, I think he is young enough yet that we have not seen the best he has to offer yet. That and to be honest, take a look around the league. Berrios rates in the top 10 of most starting pitching categories already.
  11. This would be a great way to turn a 101 win team that is a contender, into a team fighting to get to 80 wins. Don't play this game. Don't let the Twins way get to you. Why would you want to get rid of young starting players on your team when this core is primed to win now? Hate to break it to you, but take that top 10 prospect list and there is maybe 1-2 that turn out better than anyone on your starting 9 right now. I have never seen fans of a team that is in the middle of their competitive window clamor so much to trade players from their starting lineup. It has to be the Pohlad beating that our fans have taken for so many years that cause this. So far we have heard people wanting to move Rosario, Berrios, Kepler, Polanco, and now even Cruz. I just don't understand it. We should be adding to this core, not subtracting from it. The only way I move a starter from my lineup is if it is a package that involves a #1-2 starter. That's it.
  12. I agree with alot of your post, but not this part. Talk about opening a hole. On a team that is struggling looking for top end starters, moving our best is the last thing I do. Especially when one can be had by trading our high end prospects.
  13. Correct. And it also likely means he isn't that great of a prospect either. Huge hole in his game somewhere. 25 year old corner outfielders that hit bombs but strikeout, can't play defense, aren't very valuable anyway.
  14. No. Garver is probably the #1 regression candidate in MLB next year for starters. #2, Cruz was a large reason this team hammered the way they did last year. He has been doing this forever. Let him continue it. 3. Twins will never sign Grandall.
  15. Correct, but value to a team does not just revolve around advanced metrics. Guess what? Hitting that pinch hit HR WAS valuable! Throwing out that guy in Boston, WON a game. Carrying a team with his bat for week stretches DID happen. That stuff doesn't show up in advanced metrics. To act as if those thing are just 1 of 1000 or whatever hits or defensive plays, etc that make up a season full of stats isn't seeing the whole picture either. Joe Mauer was a great example. Just an absolute stat sheet stud! Thing is, I can remember on one hand him having a walk off hit, a game saving play, etc etc. Rosario is a leader of this team. He is also streaky as hell. When he is streaking the right way, he's one of the best around. When it's going the other direction, he looks lost at times. That said, there is NO ONE in the system that will do a better job in his spot right now. No one. Any of these hotshot prospects will take 2-3 years to get acclimated to the league and having someone like Jake Cave take his spot is just foolish. Don't extend him. Go year to year until FA hits and see where you are at. Moving him this year for bullcrap is not worth it. If he's used in a package to get you that 2-3 starter? Fine, I'm all for it. But to trade him just to trade him and make room for guys that haven't even really lit up the minors is foolish.
  16. I'm with you on this one. If they didn't make that trade last year with how HOT the team was and playing great, I don't see if happening next year either. If people haven't figured it out yet, our front office LOVES prospects and specifically LOVES ones that they drafted or traded for. If it were me, I would sign Wheeler and put Lewis and/or Kiriloff on the block. Package them up or use one or the other for a package and bring in the best starter you can find. Syndergaard? Jon Gray? Giolito? Eduardo Rodriguez? Clevinger? Give me that stud. You will never have a chance again with a lineup this young and cheap. We have a young SS that was an All-star last year and is locked up. Corner outfielders are a dime a dozen and we employ 2 good ones with another few looking to break in the next couple years. Why not?
  17. Over pay them. Get them in here. If those are the 2 your team/front office has determined will give you the best chance to win, go to them right away with a big number that fits within your budget and lets not let any of the big boys have their chance at them.
  18. Great news! This was my number one thing that absolutely had to get done. I would have honestly like him on a 2-3 year deal, but we will take this for now.
  19. It's the whole, play for division championships attitude. Or the "sustainable competitiveness" mantra. Never take chances, never go all in, always dabble and hope the Yankees go cold one year in the playoffs. I mean, this blueprint actually does make some sense, I will give him that. It likely results in a team competitive enough to win the Central again. But it also likely results in another one and done. Flat out, this team isn't going anywhere unless they add 2 pitchers to their staff that are high end guys capable of winning a playoff game. That or someone like Graterol steps in and is a true shutdown type of guy.
  20. You are right when it comes to close dollars I'm sure. When its another year on a contract though? Or another 10-15 million over another bid? Most times they would take the better deal.
  21. Ordorizzi is a given. He 100% needs to be a Twin. They need to outbid everyone if they have to, in order to keep him. This is more about Odorizzi, then who?
  22. Polaco and Sano? You'd trade your starting left side of your infield, one of which is a great hitter and all star, and the other one has the most power in your organization for a corner outfielder that you only have control of for one year?
  23. I'd take him back. As long as it's in the plan that he is a #4-5 guys and can be demoted or DFAed if he's not working out. I wouldn't sign him to a multi year deal though with that illness hanging over his head. That said, Kyle is a great guy and even if he isn't the best pitcher, he's great in the community, around kids, etc.
  24. False. 100%. If the Twins offer up the highest bid, he would be here. Some of you guys need to quit that line of thinking. The reason we haven't gotten these types of guys in the past has nothing to do with where we are located. It had to do with us being a ways off the top bid that those types signed for.
  25. When I say younger, I mean guys under 28-29 basically with years remaining on their contracts. Syndergaard, Boyd, etc.
