  1. I get all of these trade value sites, etc. But it really seems odd to me that a guy that is still young and has performed as well as he has in the league is rated that much lower(4 times in fact) than a kid that hasn't proven a thing yet. If that's the value Kiriloff has, then I would be shopping him right now. Add in someone and get into the next tier of guys, or just take that Gray dude off Colorado's hands.
  2. I'm not all that worried about Chicago quite yet this year, but they most definitely have improved their club. Cleveland I think will always compete, only because their pitching staff is so good. Chicago's pitching staff has a chance to be legit though. Gioloto is studly, Keuchel and Gonzalez have the veteran presence and the other 2 young cats they have, possess some good stuff, they just need to put it together. In total, the 3 young guys they have look like they have a chance to be a force going forward(if Kopech is healthy). Twins don't even have a prospect available that is as advanced as any of these guys and they are super young. In short, if not this year, the next few years following Chicago should be very good. It is our team's job to make sure we have the pitching available for the next few years to compete with them and Cleveland's always fantastic arms.
  3. How do you know this? I haven't seen any evidence the Pohlads are willing to open the pocketbook. In fact, there's been evidence against it if anything. The trading of prospects has been balked at the same way it was under Terry Ryan. There isn't any proof this Front office will take any more risk than the last one either. These guys have done a fantastic job at improving the internal workings of the organization. Basically, the building from within the Twins have always employed looks to be much improved from what we are used to. I like you optimism, but until they show something, I think you are going to be swimming upstream trying to change fans mind about how the FO and ownership operate.
  4. The thing is though, the "stuff" isn't there yet completely. The fastball is fantastic. His slider wasn't great, it plays well only because his fastball is so good. His changeup was non-existant. He is a ways away from being dominating as a starting pitcher. I don't know why people couldn't see that by watching him last season. He needs to be able to throw that slider much more often and be able to throw that changeup for a strike at least once every 2 batters or so to be an effective starter. If not, you put him in the pen, tell him to throw as hard as he can and have him continue to work on the slider and ditch the changeup or anything else. If he can perfect that slider, have a little more command, he will be the best reliever in all of baseball.
  5. I mean, I agree with alot of what you are saying. But, as this process has played out, it sure looks like one of 2 things. His agent wasn't able to gauge this market correctly, or(heaven forbid this would kill a lot of people's arguments), he wasn't that wanted and the Twins QO was a good decision for him. Thus the folks saying he is better than Wheeler, Madbum, better than Ryu, etc. are making excuses for this FO, when if fact, he just isn't as wanted as any of those guys
  6. They have 10 days to negiotate with other teams to gauge market value. It's in the rules. His agent didn't do a very good job on this.
  7. Read please. I'm getting blasted for this, but seems as though some haven't read the rules. If his agent didn't use those 10 days to figure out his market value, he's bad. In fact, if I was Odorizzi with how this offseason has played out, I'd fire the guy right now. He did his client a huge disservice. He should have been shown the money this season. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/qualifying-offer
  8. Read how the process works. They have 10 days once it is offered in order to negotiate with other teams to gauge their market value.
  9. Agreed. Also, why would they trade Ray? I don't see that one either, but it's assumed by quite a few that he's available.
  10. My point is that if they are so much better than guys that are making 4X the money they are, why didn't any other teams approach them? We have read that as many as 5-10 teams are in on all these starters? How come none of them came after our boys that are BETTER as you say than the rest of that bunch? Other GMs and organizations must not know as much as our guys do. I'm sorry I forgot all about that.
  11. They had the choice to sign elsewhere, yes they did. What they didn't have were offers significantly better than what we gave them. If there were that wanted, we'd have had to pay more for them.
  12. Then you are smarter than every GM is baseball. Ordorizi was out there for anyone and everyone to bid on before he accepted our QO. They have 10 days once it is extended. Funny there wasn't anyone out there willing to make him a better offer than that if he is better than those guys?????
  13. There's 5 rotation spots. That is all.
  14. Take out the young part then. I stand by the rest of my statement.
  15. OK, I can be with that. The thing is, who is realistically out there to target? Everybody says they want another Jake Ordorizzi. Really? Because my sights are much higher than that. Has he been good, serviceable? Yes, he has, he's been a pretty darn good 3-4 starter. That said, this team needs more than that. They need THAT and another guy higher up the totem pole. I don't see where that comes from without giving up extreme prospect capital.
  16. Haha. Missing on Cliff Lee was a big one in 2010 too...
  17. Yep, they did. Almost 100%. Unless their plan is to trade away, Lewis, Graterol, and Kiriloff and probably more. That will net you a #2 starter and a #4 starter. Anything else is flat out non-competitve in a playoff series. Of course, they could sign a #5 starter and trade 2-3 of those guys for a high end guy, I guess that could happen. The problem is, they could have had a starter to slot in that spot for just money, then traded guys not even in our top ten for that back of the rotation arm. For the position they are in and money they have to spend, yes it is a complete failure and they look silly and outmatched so far.
  18. They are young and inexperienced. They are getting schooled so far this offseason and I would also say last trade deadline. Every Free Agent they were "IN" on, used them to get a better deal, that is it.
  19. Cheap and stubborn. That is what we have here. They absolutely HAD to sign one of these top 3-4 guys to slot in between Berrios and Odorizzi. Plus they need to trade for another arm to slot in there in the 4-5th spot. Free agents accross the league just saw this offseason happen, expect to never get the benefit of the doubt until the team is sold. They are the smartest GMs in all of baseball though, so have faith. I'm sure our #22 prospect will net us that ace that no one else in baseball knows about except Falvine.
  20. Another good post. It isn’t just one thing. It’s a culmination of things over many years that have fans feeling this way. It’s also a new front office that has said they will strike when the irons hot and so far it’s just been the same old song and dance. People have every right to be frustrated and mad at this ownership and front office.
  21. What a fantastic post. This encompasses my feelings almost 100%.
  22. Well you just said he is better than Keuchel. I don’t know. I guess if I was a gm and I identified a starter in my own organization that is better than free agents that are getting 3-5 year deals and my guy is younger, I would have locked him up. 1-year deal though then he’s gone so there’s that
  23. Then why did they go one year on him? If he’s great better than all these guys signing, surely the Twins could have worked out a 2-4 year deal with him right? Except they didn’t, because they are cheap, and they are smarter than everyone else, right?
  24. I actually like this move. I have been wishing they'd have signed him a couple other times over his career. Another Vet in the bullpen to help out our young guys. I like it. This guy has done it well for quite a few years. And, like said, if he loses it, he is easy to DFA and change directions.
  25. If you know you aren't going to be able to sign anyone, there shouldn't be time wasted there. Work the trades. Get out in front of it before the rest of the squads pivot their focus and beat you to the punch. Waiting around to make offers both on the trade front and Free Agency has killed them so far this offseason. Everything doesn't have to be a bargain. You don't have to WIN every transaction. When you are in the position the Twins are, you need to identify who it is you want and make sure you get them.
