  1. Was there a reason that Buxton didn't start yesterday, other than the fact that he can't buy a hit this month?
  2. I saw the video of the Palka triple, but I missed the other ones. And did you see Pedro Florimon's home run for the Phillies? Two in one week for him!
  3. Very encouraging starts by those young pitchers. Hope they can "build on" those performances and gain some confidence, in addition to that much valued experience. As others have said, I'm still not sold on Kohl Stewart's future as a solid MLB pitcher, but games like the one he just had give me more reason to hope.
  4. Our old friend Pedro Florimon did it again, not only pitching a scoreless inning of relief for the Phillies, but homering in the same game too. a trick that even Otani hasn't done (yet) this year. I also love the original headline on the story on Yahoo news that touted the accomplishment by the Philadelphia "star" player! https://sports.yahoo.com/phillies-emergency-pitcher-something-shohei-ohtani-hasnt-yet-mlb-162244761.html
  5. I read that today too. Great stuff. Honesty, it brought tears to my eyes. Kudos to Drew for doing that!
  6. What's Oswaldo Arica doing nowadays? Ha! Just kidding! Then again ....
  7. Obviously, the Twins need to go out and find the best darn pitch-framer who is available for a reasonable price! Then again, we can suffice with Garver and spare parts (Wilson, etc.) until August rolls around and we're still in this thing or not. If not, no reason to trade good prospects or sign unnecessary scrubs.
  8. I don't have a crystal ball, but I believe that Mauer will eventually make the HOF. A great first decade as an all-star catcher. plus the past couple of years have shown that he's still capable of putting up impressive numbers and adapting very well to a new position. I hope he makes it. Molina? I understand the love but I've always thought he was overrated.
  9. A shame about that errant Morrison throw, but at least Odirizzi pitched well and struck out a few batters.
  10. Thanks for posting that. I remember all the pre-draft hype about McKay's potential as a 2-way player but had nearly forgotten about him. With Otani succeeding so far, that definitely adds more intrigue to the idea of other teams trying it. And what about the high school kid that the Reds drafted? Another potential 2-way player that was pegged as a possible number one pick (and was on the cover of SI). Sorry, but I'm having a brain fart and can't remember his name! How is doing so far this season?
  11. His first two pitches were 100 mph. Wow and whoa!!! I can't remember the last time a Twins pitching prospect was throwing with velocity like that. Exciting stuff! Let's just hope he remembers where the strike zone is located.
  12. Always very sad to hear news like this Sure, I remember the Quilici days, both as player and manager. I recall seeing him in Spring Training when the Twins played games in Orlando back in the early 1970s. One thing that surprised me that Seth wrote: I didn't realize that he was only 33 years old when he became the Twins manager. That's mind boggling!
  13. Good for him. Maybe his relatively "advanced" age has helped, but he doesn't seem intimidated or hesitant in his new role as the main catcher. I don't think many people were happy to see Castro put on the DL, but I think putting Garver behind the plate more has given him the experience and confidence he needs to thrive.
  14. Niko Goodrum had 2 home runs in a game yesterday, giving a "makeshift" Tigers team a victory over Cleveland. I'm sure Gardy was excited. Man, where did this power come from?
  15. I missed that. Too bad for him. As far as other ex-Twins relief pitchers, i see that Texas is still using Kevin Jepsen fairly often. He's been up and down so far, lately on the downside, with an ERA at over 5.00.
  16. I'm still waiting for the return of Samuel Deduno. Really.
  17. Good reminder. I've forgotten about Pineda's impending return too. And you may be right about Meija too. Barring injuries, too many good arms ahead of him.
  18. And congratulations to Trevor May ("Lurch" ???) on making it back to the mound again, even if it's on a rehab assignment in the minors. He must be pumped big time!
  19. Excellent summary of the past week, NIck! Yeah, what a relief to see the Twins winning again on a consistent basis. Not sure what the magic ingredient was. Fairly good pitching, Morrison picking it up a bit, and the return of Buxton. Sure,he's looked flat at the plate thus far, but just his presence on the field is a psychological boost for the team.
  20. I haven't been following the results of the new Pace of Play rule in the minors thus far, but it strikes me as one of those misguided experiments that will soon be terminated.
  21. I'm also feeling frustrated by Buxton's continuing slow starts and the nagging injuries. I love watching him play center field and run the bases. Not many players can match that excitement. But I'm starting to have my doubts that he'll ever be more than a .250 hitter. Man, I hope I'm wrong about that. But I'm also getting tired of the "he's only 24" excuses for his struggles. It's time for him to make the jump to the next level.
  22. Add me to the list of those who are surprised and disappointed in seeing Melotakis released. What prompted that move? More injury concerns? Or too many better arms ahead of him?
  23. Man, how did I miss that news about Wander Javier?! Asleep at the Wheel again! Very sorry to hear that. But hopefully, like Kirilloff, he can come back in another year and start putting up impressive numbers again.
  24. One quote by Kirilloff gave me pause: :"I’m going to play as hard as I can, whether I’m here or wherever else.” I hope he was referring to Cedar Rapids and perhaps the possibility of moving up the Twins' minor league ladder soon .. and not with another organization!
  25. I'm not sure either. He might have been relatively cheap to extend a few months ago, but if he keeps playing like he's been doing so far this season, his asking price is going to rise a lot.
