    Stay with what you have like Seth said. All free agent resources go into pitching, and trade Span for pitching.

    I believe you can still play RBI baseball online now (via web browser). I showed it to my son a few years ago. He didn't think it was nearly as cool as I did though.

    Yeah TK10, having Mauer get AB's in left or right field makes sense too. When Valencia got off to the putrid start, and before Plouffe got hot, I was thinking it was time for Mauer to get in some time at 3b.

    Liriano is a mediocre talent that has shown the occasional stretches of being very good. And for those stretches he has been and will continue to be well compensated. He was maddening to watch and I cannot blame the Twins for finally parting ways. Yes, when the opposing teams were not patient or he was on one of those rare stretches where he was "pitching to contact" early in the count, he could finish guys off.

    I really don't think Morneau has any trade value. I would be happy if the Twins could just salary dump him via trade, but I think they would have to eat part of it. Why was the Liriano trade stupid? He is still the erratic pitcher now that he was with the White Sox.

    I think this is how it will play out too. Morneau will not bring any value at this time and the Twins would probably have to eat part of his salary (Doumit is more valuable than Morneau). Has Span done something to make the Twins sour on him?

    The beauty of Revere getting better and Parmalee having potential is the Twins can trade Span and Morneau if they get decent offers. They may actually have a better offensive and defensive lineup without Span and Morneau(with Hicks/Arcia playing right and Parmalee playing 1st).

    Yes! I remember RBI baseball. I want to say the one I played had rosters from either 86 or 87. The Twins team was pretty good too if I recall. I liked Oakland's team also with Dave Stewart, Canseco, McGuire, and Ricky leading it off. Eckersly was impossible to hit for 1 inning. That was probably the best video game of all time. If they had it at Rusty Quarters, I would probably drop some coins there.

    You are possibly very right, and that is distressing. That OF will be significantly below average. I just don't get it. Why not ship Morneau? I think the Twins have some good options this offseason due to Revere's emergence and Parmalee's potential. Span and/or Morneau can be dealt to acquire pitching. If Span is dealt, I think we would could see either Hicks or Arcia starting next season for the Twins.

    Incredible catch! I liked how he played in the field as well. Tough as hell, just not good enough with the bat.

    I agree the corner OF spots lack speed (really slow), but they both have decent arms in my opinion. I was pleasantly suprised with a throw Parmalee made the other night. I would be satisfied with Florimon or Escobar at SS if either could hit 240-260.

    How would you all feel about trotting out last night's starting lineup (with Hammer and Doumit flip flopped) next year on a consistent basis? If we trade Span, and go with Parmalee and Hammer in the outfield, and then solid middle infield defense with some combo of Carrol, Florimon, Escobar. If Parmalee continues to hit well, and Morneau is closer to his old self next year, I like it for 2013.

    I think his strikeout pitch is a slider. This is a big head scratcher and it's great how much we all care about it. Part of it is I think he might make the bullpen better, but it's also about emphathy for the guy as I can only imagine if I was in his shoes, I would want a shot with the big league club. Could it be the Stache? Or was he friends with Slowey?

    Good post Nick. I too am dissapointed we didn't see Slama and Guerra, but could understand leaving Hicks and Arcia off. I feel like most of the season has been a September call up so I am not as dissapointed as others are here.

    How great would it be if the Orioles and Rays become the perennial playoff teams from the East, while the Yankees and Red Sox go into a 6 year rebuild?!

    I've got one for you TwinVike61... How do you keep the Minnesota Vikings from trespassing on your property? Paint a goal line on the front of it. Okay that was bad, but I am looking forward to the Gophers football season.

    I would love to see that middle infield personally, but I think the more likely opening day middle infield starters next year will be Carrol and Dozier.

    If you were him, how many more seasons like this could you take? I think Kelly stuck with it for much longer than most of us could. If the mgmt doesn't bring in any solid starting pitchers for next season, And if the team loses 90+ games again, I think Gardy walks away.

    As a fan, I think he is colorful and not just cashing checks. He doesn't self promote and he protects his players. I believe he had many years where the team exceeded my expectations. I have wondered in the post season if he sometimes gets uptight/nervous because he wants to win so badly, and the team mimics that behaviour.

    Shanewahl, thank you for posting this. I have almost forgotten about Slama, but there must be something keeping this guy from getting a legitimate shot. Why not this season??

    What about keeping Blackburn around just to pitch bp to our guys? He seems to help batters get hot.
