  1. Oh man. I like overspending on good rather than below average.
  2. In my opinion, mlbfan, i am more excited for this season, after the past two trades. Nothing against Span or Revere, they are both decent offensive players, and above average defensive players. I just think it's time to see Arcia, Hicks, and possibly Benson. I have to think we will see at least two starters signed and maybe one or two infielders. I don't necessarily think we will contend, but at least we are moving forward.
  3. This is very nice now that I see May is included. I was concerned that we were just getting Worley and he would need TJ within a year. I tend to think Ben is a better player than many folks here think. I might be wrong, but I think he will continue to improve his BA...still a good trade for both teams.
  4. If he's brought back for cheap to compete for the 5th spot or a bullpen role because we are still going to sign two good pitchers, then I am for this.
  5. Jim, thank you for stating this point. To me it's very simple. If the Twins do not spend an additional $20-40 million per year on starting pitching starting in 2013, they will see their revenues drop by at least that amount. They have to make smart decisions, but they can't wait to develop this talent from within.
  6. We could use a guy named Joe Mauer at 3b and a guy like AJ to platoon with Doumit.
  7. I would have been happy to have 'Shake n Bake' back, but not at that price. Bill Smith might have spent $5-6 million to bring back Baker, but I think we are seeing a return to the Shrewdinator (aka Terry Ryan), who will pass on bad deals in favor of more club friendly ones. If we have another off season like last one, only this time with the focus on starting pitching, we will be a pretty decent ball club.
  8. Sounds like everyone here thinks Revere had a career year?
  9. 1. Johan 2. Jim Kaat 3. Viola 4. Bad Brad. Maybe because Bad Brad was here through thick and thin, and was the guy willing to stick with a really bad team when he could have left.
  10. Thanks for asking TR about Mauer at 3rd. I think that makes the most sense personally (him platooning/putting pressure on Plouffe). I really hope Plouffe does some sort offseason 12 hour a day in a baseball cave learning how to play amazing defense thing though. I understand it's a long season, and you want some time to chill, but he could make some really good money down the road, if he fine tunes his skills.
  11. Great article. Thanks for sharing that.
  12. And they did it again last night with a soft throwing left hander and good outfield defense. Maybe we need more Scott Diamonds? I still notice how great it is to watch baseball on HD. The slow motion replays of Romo's pitches breaking into the bottom corner of the strike zone, or the replay of Pence's bat shattering while the bat hits the ball 3 times, have been great to see.
  13. Two World Series appearance in three years. When I look at their roster, it does not look that impressive. They seem to be the ultimate clutch hitting, solid defense, and good pitching team. Their outfield plays really good defense, but does not bring power to the plate. I think it's a pretty great story.
  14. I wonder if the Orioles would be interested in trading for Span and putting him in left field? He and Jones being buddies and he would be a great top of the order guy for them.
  15. Wishing Mr. Rantz the best. That's quite a run and I'm sure the guy has plenty of great stories to tell.
  16. How much do you think the decisions on which coaches stay vs go had to do with TR talking with players to get their opinions? Would he take someone like Pavano or Mauer's opinions on the matter?
  17. Great article! It would be nice if we could keep Span AND add pitching. I would be for keeping Casilla too, but I'm probably the only one. Carroll at SS and Casilla at 2b with Escobar as the utility guy.
  18. I would love to see him take a big uppercut swing on strike one more (think Thome), but I don't know if it would screw up his mechanics.
  19. How much improvement on the defensive side of his game can we expect from a player that is 27ish? It seems to be a lack of focus at times with him and our former guy, DValencia.
  20. If I was a Pohlad or concerned about the Twins bottom line, I chose the win now path versus rebuild mode to win 2 years from now. I think you trade Morneau to dump his salary and go with Parmalee at first. Keep Span and Revere, and bring in two starting pitchers.
  21. Beckmt, I think that would be classy for the Twins to offer Morneau a 3 year $30 million extension, but I am not sure if it would be worth it. I look at Doumit's offensive production (similar to Morneau's), but Doumit plays a more valuable defenisve position and makes less. I think the conversation will be difficult, but I think a fair extension for Morneau would be more like $6 per year (at his current production rate).
  22. I would be happy if he was a healthy Crede type of player. The power numbers he showed at AAA last year also backup his power stats this year. I caught part of Judd and Phun (AM1500) this morning talking about Mauer being ready to play 3B some or a lot next year in case Plouffe doesn't produce.
  23. I would really be interested in hearing how this played out. My suspiscion is that TR spoke with Nish and his agent before Nishi's callup this summer and said something to the effect of you don't want to be playing in the minor leagues right? What if you we give you one last shot and if it doesn't work, you opt out at the end of the season?
  24. Classy move Nishi. Money doesn't mean happiness and I am hoping you can get back to having some fun.
