  1. Some of the newish smart phones have FM tuners in them. Last night I was doing a bunch of outdoor ****e and thoroughly enjoyed listening to the broadcast. I too am about 3 miles South of Target field (Lyn Lake area). Sometimes the signal is decent other times not so good. On Sunday, we were driving back to Mpls from my parent's place near Pine City and we could only pick up the Spanish broadcast of the game until we reached Forest Lake (on KTWN). That surprised me.
  2. I think makes a lot of sense too. I just wish this decision would have been made in the offseason so Mauer could have used the time to work on OF defense. The Twins mgmt probably had no idea that they would have a logjam of decent offensive guys with power in OF that also play really bad defense. How do you get Kubes, Arcia, Willingham, and Collabello at bats when they all are best suited at DH?
  3. Hi Jim, I surprised this didn't get more "talk" here. Maybe it says something about how people get their news now, or maybe because 60 Minutes has lost it's edge. It still is a program that I try to find the time to watch, but between this piece and the NSA piece, I have been left more than underwhelmed. Thanks
  4. The arbitrator did not appear. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but those who appeared were Selig, MLB's COO Rob Manfred, Bosch, and Arod's attorney. Here is a summary via CBS http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24407628/summary-of-anthony-bosch-others-on-60-minutes-sunday-night
  5. I'm surprised no one has commented on the 60 Minutes segment last night. I thought it was interesting, but I don't think CBS dug very deep. It had the feeling of Bud Selig calling someone high up at CBS and saying, "Would you like a juicy story to expose Arod? The only catch is you cannot make MLB look bad". I'm kind of surprised that MLB didn't have 60 Minutes edit out the part where Bosch insinuated that all the players are doping. CMathewson, you mentioned that MLB's testing is way behind other sports, but I would argue that compared to the NFL and college football it is more strict. I think some NFL type fans that sort of follow baseball wish that baseball would just let the whole PED thing slide and go back to the "Glory Days" of 98 with Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire. I agree that it the Yankees, Selig, and Bosch are the only ones that benefit from this mess.
  6. What about Worley (not that I'm excited about him)?
  7. It's tough watching a team that the Twins had owned for about 11 years beat the crap out of you. Good for the Royals in landing some pitching. Guthrie, Santana, and Shields are all pitching well, and I wish they were all pitching for the Twins. I'm concerned this rebuild will last for 4 more years. Talk me off the that ledge (only joking sort of). Looking forward to Gopher Football!
  8. The way the Dodgers are scoring runs right now, they can afford to have a solid but not flashy Butera behind the plate. Best of luck to him!
  9. I would count the Giants as well. Many of their key role players were mid level free agents. However both the Giants and Red Sox had starting pitching talent that performed up to expectations (when they were/are winning).
  10. I'm no psychologist, but I play one in my head, and I think he has a miser/martyr gene. I think Ryan would get the ultimate satisfaction from winning on a low budget with in house talent. He is willing to take time to rebuild this way (just look at the 93-2000 reboot the Twins went through). The Pohlads are good businessmen and they want to win and have a healthy business. I don't know if they will be as patient during this next rebuild (I sure hope it doesn't take 7 years this time). We need that Chuck Knoblauch trade to get the ball rolling.
  11. As much as I like Perkins, I think you have to listen to offers and this is the perfect time to trade. I kind of expect Doumit and Carrol to be traded. Both veteran guys that would be great on a playoff contender, but who are taking up some "valuable" at bats on this team.
  12. In the past few years, I feel that Uptown has become full of people who are like the guy in the GIF. I wonder if they are Yankee fans?
  13. If Gardy continues to take care of Burton and Perkins, I think they can be around when we are winning again. I say keep these guys.
  14. I want to take the Dbacks side on this as I like Baylor and Matt Williams a lot more than McGuire and the Dodgers, but you can't throw at anyone's head let alone a star pitcher. Personally, I like Greinke's approach and I hope he doesn't change anything.
  15. Hmm. If he continues to have very little trade value, I wouldn't mind the Twins signing him to a 3 year deal similar to what Doumit or Willingham were signed for. It would be great to have a few veterans around at a decent price for the rebuild. I don't know if his mechanics are accounting for his power loss, if he just isn't as strong, or possibly that he has changed his mechanics due to the dimensions at Target Field.
  16. I agree Nicksaving. TR in the past has been able to look really good by making nifty moves, and get a free pass by claiming "my hands are tied" when there was a case to be made for spending money on quality free agents. Gardenhire has to be unhappy with the starting pitching he has been given again.
  17. I am not saying Joe is the problem, but I don't think it's unrealistic to say the Twins are looking to compete for the Central in 2015. Does it make sense to keep Joe's production and cost for 2-3 years of losing baseball?
  18. If there is some interest from Boston, I think there is a reason to listen to what they would offer for Joe Mauer. I know he's a big draw to watching the Twins now, and he's arguably their only star. I think our current rotation, the lack of starting pitching that is nearly ready, and the fact that TR has showed that he is not willing to add high end starting pitching to me equals we are at least 2 years away from competing. Do we really want to watch an elite player like Joe Mauer without a strong supporting cast? What if the Red Sox were to offer a high level starting prospect (single A) and maybe a SS or Catching prospect? Liberate Joe and add some prospects.
  19. It could very well turn out to be the worst Twins rotation ever. Remember when the 3 new veterans started the season by each having a quality start back to back to back? That could turn out the be the highlight of the season from a pitching perspective.
  20. Carneal was a gem. John Gordon grew on me and Gladden doing color with him offset his Gordo's "momma's boy" personality. I think Provus is great. So for those of us that missed Gladden telling the story, what happened between him and Lombo? Why did the fight start?
  21. Bummed that I missed that part. I thought I had heard their fight was due to one of them fooling around with the other's wife/girlfriend?
  22. I must have missed something, because I saw nothing from Gardenhire that was even close to out of line when he was correcting Hicks play. Do we really need to treat these guys that delicately? He is going to be a better player because of last night.
  23. My bad Alex, I quoted you and then went on to rant about the other posters who are ranting about Gardenhire.
  24. Did we watch the same game/play last night? How are the majority of you guys on Hicks side on this one. I do not think Gardenhire overreacted and once Hicks starts playing with his head in the game, Gardenhire will cut him some slack. It appears to me that once you respect the game and play with your head in the game, he's a player's manager.
  25. Don't think the Hammer would have caught that ball either. We have some plodders out there right now (Parms, Arcia, Hammer, Doumit, and Ramirez).
