  1. That doesn't mean it counts for less. That's the problem with using SSS in the first place. Lots of fluctuation up and down. The entire point of playing Parmelee is to find out if he can hit MLB pitching. Over the past 55 days, he has done an adequate job of just that, posting a .770-ish OPS. And I keep asking this question that no one will answer: What do the Twins have to lose by playing Parmelee in 2013? Neither Doumit nor Willingham factor into the Twins next contending team. Why would you play them over the 26 year old to give him one last shot at succeeding? If he succeeds, good for him. That's one less roster spot to fill in 2014. If he fails, too bad. Now you know you need a first baseman in 2014.
  2. Which is a pretty good indication that my patience has been tested, pushed, pushed a little further, and then stomped on repeatedly over the course of the past month. We've tried being nice about this multiple times. It hasn't worked. Now we're moving on to a more proactive strategy.
  3. At the end of the day, we have to do what's best for the site. If that includes removing problem users from the site entirely, we are willing to do just that. You may not mind reading negative comment after negative comment but there are plenty of people who email and message us that it deters them from visiting the site entirely. One person's desire to say or do what he/she wants is not more important than the overall health of the site itself.
  4. Let me know if it's fixed now. Also, Internet Explorer is awful. Just awful. I hate that browser so much.
  5. That number is a little disingenuous. Chris posted exactly a .750 OPS in May and is at .795 for the month of June.
  6. Let me know if the problem persists. I just added new CSS rules that should hide the overflow content.
  7. If he starts 20 games in the OF to get his bat in the lineup, I have no problem with that. But not every day or even every other day. Hell, not even every third day.
  8. On its own, there is nothing wrong with questioning that move. I don't think it's a big deal either way but meh, whatever. But comments like that are coming from the same people who complain about everything the Twins do and those same posters tend to be the people who show up in user complaint logs every week. As a result, peoples' patience tends to disappear as the comment is just another case of Username X complaining about. every. single. thing. the. twins. do. As a result, the Twins Daily posting policy has now changed. Incessant negativity will be removed from the board. It's a pain in our ass to constantly deal with these posters and it's damaging to the overall community. Every minute we have to spend dealing with these issues is another minute we're not generating new site content and features. At some point, we need to focus on the things that matter and eliminate problem posters who consume far too much of our time.
  9. He might not be "terrible" but he's really, really bad. Every defensive metric has him well into the negative numbers in the OF over his career, which lines up with my eyeball test of "ugh".
  10. Except that Parmelee seems to be the odd man out more often than anyone else. OPS against RHP: Parmelee: .742 Willingham: .747 Doumit: .710 If you're platooning based on splits, Chris should still be getting quite a bit of playing time, particularly if you factor in OF defense, where Willingham and Doumit more closely resemble trees than baseball players.
  11. Wow, great analysis. You should consider posting this kind of stuff as a blog entry, Boone. We'd almost surely promote it to front page status.
  12. Could someone grab a screenshot if it appears for them? I haven't seen the ad.
  13. 1. Mauer is one of the better defensive catchers in the league and is certainly no worse than average. We can all agree on that. 2. Doumit is widely regarded to be the worst defensive catcher in the league by pretty much everybody. 3. Catcher is the most important defensive position on the field. You're looking at this backwards. Mauer's offense isn't part of this discussion. Joe's bat is in the lineup no matter who plays where. What will net a higher result? Mauer defense at C + Parmelee offense at 1B - Doumit offense at DH/RF or Doumit defense at C + Doumit offense at C - Parmelee offense at 1B/RF While I don't trust the metric much, Doumit's dWAR has been in the negative 6 of the 9 years he has been in MLB. Couple that with the eyeball test, other metrics that say he's awful behind the dish, and general scout/analyst agreement that he's awful and it's not hard to determine that he'd do some real damage behind the plate 130 games a year. Also, Doumit is due for a continued regression as he enters his mid-30s while Parmelee has a decent chance to trend upward. But wait, there's more: Ryan Doumit's 2013 OPS+ is 97. Chris Parmelee's 2013 OPS+ is 93. Ryan Doumit's 2013 WAR: FanGraphs 0.1, BB-Ref 0.2. Chris Parmelee's 2013 WAR: FanGraphs 0.0, BB-Ref 0.9. Methinks you're not looking at this very objectively. I love the fact that Ryan Doumit is on this team as a backup C/DH/RF. But if you're going to bet on the future, you give Parmelee ABs to see if he can hit MLB pitching. And, again, you never answered my question: What do the Twins have to lose by playing Parmelee in 2013? You can argue that there is little upside in playing Chris but there is upside, small though it may be. On the other hand, there is no real downside to letting him play through struggles in a 74 win season. At the very least, you leave the season knowing whether he's a viable option to start in 2014.
  14. I think there's a pretty good chance of that happening. It boils down to Walters and Diamond and their performances over the next two weeks, really.
  15. The exact opposite, actually. You can't rely on a reliever who comes into a game with men on base and has a 15% chance of walking the first batter. Deduno's problem is his fastball and you can't have a reliever who doesn't trust his own fastball to get over the plate. That's a recipe for disaster.
  16. Click on the user's name and select View Profile. Add user to ignore list is somewhere in the left-side option list on their profile. As for a spellchecker, I've toyed with the idea of adding one but haven't done a lick of research into what it requires. When I get some extra time, I'll poke around and see what I can find.
  17. Without that feature, it's almost impossible to have a conversation. I've seen forums without a reply feature and it turns into a free-for-all of one-liners and throwaway comments. Believe it or not but things actually get worse without it, as those systems tend to encourage less civil debate and more "your an idiot lol" responses.
  18. No, there isn't a way of doing that. The reply system basically copies the text of the original post and places it into the editing window. At that point, the post content stops being tied to the original poster (who is on your ignore list) and that content is now "possessed" by the responding poster. If that makes sense. I'm not really sure how to explain how databases work without going into long and terribly boring exposition.
  19. I... I just... I... Sigh.
  20. If I post something like that, it's a nice way of me saying "I'm really tired of hearing Comment A or B." And if I'm tired of hearing it, you can bet money that other users and admins are tired of hearing it as well. The persistent negativity is a problem and we're getting plenty of complaints about it (on top of the admin crew being extremely tired of seeing the same peoples' names pop up time and time again in the user report log). Users can either tone it down and stop dragging down nearly every thread on this forum or we can start handing out bans. Those are the two options. We all have plenty to do, we don't enjoy spending our free time playing the role of nanny. It's fine to disagree with the front office. We all do it. But if someone's post count is 80% (or higher) in the negative, they should re-evaluate their attitude and why they post the things they do on the board. As site owners, we have to start thinking about the overall health of the site and persistently negative posters do far more damage to the forums than they do good. (this is not necessarily aimed at you, jokin... it's a statement to the board at large)
  21. It's the one with all the cat pictures.
  22. I thought Gibson should have been up a few weeks ago. But that's just my opinion. Showing a bit of prudence does not equal incompetence. Back on point, Gibson starts on Saturday. This is what we all wanted and complaining that the team didn't play musical chairs with one of the worst hitters in baseball history is facepalm-worthy.
  23. No kidding. It's not unreasonable to call him up a few days early and let him adjust to the big leagues before pitching. The complaining around here is starting to become tiresome. Gibson doesn't get called up, the front office is cheap and incompetent. Gibson gets called up, the front office is incompetent because they didn't take advantage of putting Drew-freakin-Butera on the roster for one series. I mean, really. C'mon, people. Listen to yourselves.
