  1. Three cheers for the Twins bullpen. Lineups: Twins: Brian Dozier 2B Joe Mauer C Ryan Doumit DH Justin Morneau 1B Trevor Plouffe 3B Oswaldo Arcia LF Chris Parmelee RF Aaron Hicks CF Pedro Florimon SS (Samuel Deduno P) Yankees: Brett Gardner CF Ichiro Suzuki RF Robinson Cano 2B Travis Hafner DH Zoilo Almonte LF Lyle Overbay 1B Chris Stewart C David Adams 3B Alberto Gonzalez SS (Phil Hughes P)
  2. Motorcycle or bicycle? Because I view the two differently. On a motorcycle, you are mentally retarded if you don't wear a helmet. I'm saying this as someone who has logged more than 100,000 miles on two-wheeled motorized vehicles. On a bicycle, you are stupid if you don't wear a helmet. I admit that sometimes I'm a little stupid.
  3. Android is much worse than Apple when it comes to hardware support. With an iPhone, you'll get 48 months of hardware support (from time of device launch), where in the Android world, it's not uncommon to receive less than 12 months of device support from launch and it's rare to see hardware support go past 24 months. It's one of the things that most chaps my hide about Android. Google needs to start forcing manufacturers to extend their support cycle and while they're at it, they should stop letting manufacturers ruin the elegance and simplicity of Android with a crappy skin. Most of these companies don't know squat about UIX and have no business skinning what is a pretty good OS out of the box. I have yet to see an Android skin that is better than stock Android. That's all you need to know about skinned devices.
  4. Ripken went in as a shortstop because he played ~2300 games at short and ~700 at third. That kind of illustrates my point about third basemen. Guys who are good with the glove play short and guys who aren't play first. Third base tends to be neglected and older players tend to move there after they've lost the ability to play a "real" position. Even Paul Molitor, a guy we think of primarily as a third baseman, barely played 50% of his non-DH games at the hot corner. Add in his DH games and he's way under 50%. Another example is A-Rod, a guy who should have stayed at short for a lot longer than he did and may only go into the hall as a third sacker because the Yankees bumped him from short in favor of manning an inferior defender at the position. And even today he has more games at short than he does third. Examples of the "anti-Ripken" are Killebrew and Thome. Both came up at the hot corner and moved to first because they were statues.
  5. I'd argue that he doesn't need an .800 OPS to be a stopgap at first base. At this point, I'd settle for a .750 OPS making the league minimum. I don't think anyone here expects Parmelee to be the answer at first over the next 3-4 seasons but if he can hold down the position for 1-2 seasons while we wait for Vargas/Sano/whatever, I'd be happy with that.
  6. If you buy an iPhone, hold off until early to mid September. Apple is on the verge of releasing a new model and even if you don't want to spend the money for that model, it means you'll get last year's model for a reduced price. Whatever you do, don't buy anything older than the iPhone 5. Its hardware was a massive step up from the iPhone 4S.
  7. No series preview against the Yanks, sorry. I was just too cramped for time to do it last night or this morning. Lineups: Twins: Clete Thomas CF Brian Dozier 2B Ryan Doumit C Josh Willingham DH Justin Morneau 1B Trevor Plouffe 3B Oswaldo Arcia LF Chris Parmelee RF Eduardo Escobar SS (Scott Diamond P) Yankees: Brett Gardner CF Jayson Nix SS Robinson Cano 2B Vernon Wells RF Travis Hafner DH Zoilo Almonte LF Lyle Overbay 1B Chris Stewart C David Adams 3B (Andy Pettitte P)

  9. You're kidding, right? You're essentially arguing that #5 pitchers are the least represented "position" in the HoF. Well, yes. I... suppose you're right? If anyone on earth would make such a ridiculous argument, that is. And I'm not even factoring in history's four man rotation, 3-4 man bullpen, or utility players (if we're going to start counting bench spots as position dilution). According to this link, there are fewer third basemen than catchers. But honestly, I don't really care. I'm not going to get into a semantic argument over it. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/hof/hofstat.shtml
  10. I think that's just third base, period. It's one of the most undervalued and overlooked positions on the field. If someone is really good defensively, they play short. If someone has a really great bat but marginal defense, they play first. There are fewer third basemen in the HoF than any other position on the field. There's a reason for that. Everyone tends to ignore the position and few "natural" third basemen exist.
  11. At this point, the Twins should be asking for more than a little value from Correia. He's having a very nice season. As for Pelfrey, don't care. Hand him a one way bus ticket to Albuquerque for all I care. Same goes for Walters. This team needs to start clearing room for Albers and Worley. Those two guys have a chance of helping the team in future seasons.
  12. Lineups: Twins: Clete Thomas CF Joe Mauer C Ryan Doumit DH Justin Morneau 1B Trevor Plouffe 3B Oswaldo Arcia LF Chris Parmelee RF Eduardo Escobar 2B Pedro Florimon SS (Kevin Correia P) Royals: Alex Gordon LF Alcides Escobar SS Eric Hosmer 1B Billy Butler DH Salvador Perez C Mike Moustakas 3B Lorenzo Cain CF David Lough RF Johnny Giavotella 2B (Ervin Santana P)
  13. You're still around? I figured you'd be passed out in the neighbor kid's tree fort in your underwear by this time tonight.
  14. Yeah, I'd say yes and hang up before the opposing GM could reconsider his stupidity.
  15. Some people were worried about Sano after his "slow start" in New Britain. I LOLed at the time and I LOL even more now. Yeah, so it took two weeks for a 20 year old kid to make the biggest jump in professional baseball that isn't the jump to the Majors. Miguel's last ten days: .286/.324/.857/1.181 with five homers, two doubles, and two triples. Hmm. Maybe the kid will be fine after all.
  16. Hey, Parmelee looks pretty adept in the field. But other than that, yeah. That infield would be brutal. Rosario has a chance to be decent but Christ, Plouffe can barely man third. Let's not move him back to short.
  17. Once Hicks' injury started to drag into a month-long affair, I started believing that it might be in everyone's best interest to give him a little time in AAA to get back up to speed. While he was drastically improved in his last month with the Twins, he was still only a league average bat. I'd hate to see him come back and scuffle for another three weeks and lose confidence as he shakes off the rust. Let him shake off that rust in Rochester.
  18. He only had ~200 AAA PAs in 2011 when his power spiked but he also had a decent season in Minnesota that year, OPSing right around .700 with 8 homers in 320 PAs. That's not bad for a 25 year old rookie. Plouffe's biggest problem is his inability to stay on the field, IMO. When he's healthy, he seems to be a pretty good hitter and it seems more and more every day that we can throw out anything he did before 2011, as it no longer seems to apply to him as a hitter. Well, yeah, and people will continue to expect too much from Trevor until last June fades from memory entirely. Personally, I think his ceiling is an .800 OPS with adequate defense. A slightly above average player. His floor is out of the league in a year. His most likely outcome is a league average guy for 2-4 years and a quality stopgap until Sano arrives, at which point you consider moving him to a utility role or trading him for a solid prospect.
  19. Plouffe never showed much power in the minors until he seemingly transformed into an entirely different hitter in AAA. It's hard to say what kind of power hitter he is... People were predicting 30+ homers, which seems a little silly. I think he'll probably settle in somewhere between 15-25 depending on how "legit" you consider his 2012 June. If Plouffe continues posting a .775 OPS, he has a fair amount of value. I think he could be a ~2-ish WAR player, which isn't anything to scoff at, though it won't get anyone too excited, either.
  20. ERA all the way up to 3.86. Get him out of the game. He's done. What a bum.
  21. Did you just insult my sexuality? *ban hammer*
  22. Nishioka makes Aaron Hicks look Ruthian by comparison.
  23. Gibson time! Lineups: Twins: Clete Thomas CF Brian Dozier 2B Joe Mauer C Justin Morneau 1B Trevor Plouffe DH Oswaldo Arcia LF Chris Parmelee RF Jamey Carroll 3B Pedro Florimon SS (Kyle Gibson P) Royals: Alex Gordon LF Alcides Escobar SS Eric Hosmer 1B Billy Butler DH Salvador Perez C Mike Moustakas 3B Lorenzo Cain RF Miguel Tejada 2B Jarrod Dyson CF (Wade Davis P)
  24. The injury really derailed things. If not for that, I think we would have seen him in September.
