  1. Ryan's statement was baffling, that's for sure.
  2. Sure, another Correia-type pitcher would be readily available this offseason. I'm all for trading him if you can get anything in return. My sticking point is that I don't see many GMs offering anything for him. There's no point in trading a guy just to make it look like you're doing something. Quietly offer him to a few contenders and see if anyone bites but don't be too surprised if the market is entirely apathetic toward Correia.
  3. Glen Perkins is an awful reliever, confirmed. He just can't pitch in the clutch.
  4. Hernandez shouldn't be casually tossed away like that. There's a good chance he ends up being a nice bullpen arm. Really, I don't get the criticisms here. You don't call up Albers for one start. He's in a groove, let him keep doing his thing. When there's a permanent spot open in the rotation, give him a real shot.
  5. No, it's not. Not even close. The defensive drop off would be enormous. What do you feel the Twins have to lose by playing Parmelee? 71 wins instead of 73? Who cares?
  6. You're assuming that Parmelee has no chance of improving. I don't think he will but in a lost season, it sure doesn't hurt to know for sure. Also, Doumit as an everyday catcher is an awful idea.
  7. At best, I think Parmelee has an outside shot at being a productive every day first baseman. But I'm patient enough to give him one legitimate shot to prove he can do it, especially on a team that has no legitimate first base prospects coming before 2015. And FYI, his career OPS+ is 104. Let's not pretend like this is some cut and dry case of a guy posting an OPS+ of 70 over his first 500 PAs.
  8. Spreading a season's worth of PAs over three seasons doesn't tell you much about the player.
  9. You've given the guy 500+ PAs. You know whether you need a first baseman or not.
  10. You will have to log into the "bridge" and specify some settings to act as a repeater. List the make and model of the router and the repeater.
  11. To be clear, I was and am firmly in the camp of "Benson=Meh". I didn't agree with letting him go but didnt really care, either.
  12. Which is a sound principle but people need to temper expectations and open up to the fact that other GMs may offer so little that Correia may end up being more valuable to the Twins by staying.
  13. It wasn't. Just as Correia's isn't high right now. Too many posters fall into the trap of "other GMs are dumber than me". If you think the Twins could hose another team by trading high, take a deep breath and realize that in all likelihood, other GMs realize you're trading high as well.
  14. Yep. Not even close to sold on him as an experiment, much less a viable option to start.
  15. After today, his bat is close to league average. This is the year the Twins need to play those guys every game so they don't have to wonder about them in 2014.
  16. Over the years, I've seen Gardy pencil in some really dumb choices at the 1/2 spot of the lineup. I'm not sure where Clete Thomas ranks on that list but he ain't low on it, that's for sure.
  17. I'd like to see them to pursue that Benson kid playing in Frisco. Good value there.
  18. On the other hand, many of us believe he did just that with Revere. I don't see Ben's value ever being higher than it was last offseason.
  19. Brilliant article. I love it when people scour other teams' prospects so I don't have to bother looking.
  20. Lineups: Twins: Clete Thomas CF Joe Mauer C Ryan Doumit DH Justin Morneau 1B Trevor Plouffe 3B Oswaldo Arcia LF Chris Parmelee RF Brian Dozier 2B Pedro Florimon SS (P.J. Walters P)* Indians: Michael Bourn CF Mike Aviles SS Jason Kipnis 2B Michael Brantley LF Carlos Santana C Mark Reynolds 1B Jason Giambi DH Lonnie Chisenhall 3B Drew Stubbs RF (Corey Kluber P)
  21. Doug Mientkiewicz has it.
  22. I'm basically saying this: A month ago, I was tolerant of Gibson being in AAA. They said he needed consistency and I'll defer to their judgment... for awhile. Now, I believe he has shown that consistency and there is space for him in the rotation. Plus, he's running out of available 2013 innings. In 2-3 weeks, I'm going to be really irritated if he's still in the minors because there's no reason for it (unless he throws an absolute clunker or gets injured).
  23. It had more to do with the Twins roster than Slama himself. At the time, Gardy was letting Jeff Gray walk to the mound multiple times a week. I would rather have seen a damned pitching machine on the roster.
  24. You can make that argument for every prospect called up to a bad team in the history of baseball.
  25. To be clear, I'm not up in arms about Gibson... Yet. I haven't been up in arms about a promotion since the Bartlett fiasco, though Slama got close at one point. But if he's not up here in 2-3 weeks... Then yeah, I'm gonna be pretty pissed.
