  1. I think it's becoming more evident that Sano is the type of guy that you absolutely want to control for seven years. Hicks was borderline (and I was against his call-up at the time) but Sano is dominating the high minors at such a young age that it's hard to envision him with a floor lower than "pretty good third baseman" with a ceiling of "holy *&^%".
  2. I don't see that happening. Given Ryan's track record, he'd much rather pick up someone in the low minors and the Twins already have a potential Duensing Redux in Pedro Hernandez.
  3. Shields or bust, baby.
  4. Going into the season, I thought they'd end up in the 72-75 win range. Dunno if I publicly predicted that (I tend to avoid prediction threads) but it appears that's where they'll end up if for no other reason than it's really, really hard to lose 90+ games three seasons in a row when you have guys like Joe Mauer, Josh Willingham, Ryan Doumit, etc. on the roster. And that's the reason I wanted to see Ryan pick up some legit free agents this offseason. If the Twins had Dempster right now and got a lucky break or two with Plouffe, Dozier, Arcia, Hicks, etc., they'd be borderline "contenders".
  5. Which I understand... But had the team played Parmelee over Doumit and actually put Willingham on the DL instead of mucking around for a month, we might be in a different situation (ie. Willingham may have been traded and Chris would have played every day for 6-8 weeks). I just don't understand why they didn't push this thinking instead of letting vets play (and play poorly, at that).
  6. I think most of us share this sentiment... Which is why it would have been nice to let Parmelee flail away every day in a lost season so we actually have an answer to the question heading into 2014.
  7. Less than nothing. He gave up a minor league guy who was being paid more than he was worth.
  8. The Twins. I've made myself pretty clear on what I think of the Shields trade and unless the Royals find a way to acquire another Ervin Santana (people tend to ignore that he has been Shields' equal this season), their pitching staff is going to take a huge hit in 2014. Plus, they have no money. That's always going to serious hinder the team's ability to compete for long periods of time.
  9. Only because he felt bad for making all those gentiles look so completely inept at the plate.
  10. To quote Keanu Reeves: Whoa.
  11. Why do they want a player to be claimed? It's much easier to trade a player that has cleared waivers, as you can now trade that player to any team.
  12. I think it's pretty much a given that he's the next Sandy Koufax.
  13. This article was pretty enlightening about Dozier: Warne: Why Brian Dozier has become the Twins' second-best player | 1500 ESPN Twin Cities ? Minnesota Sports News & Opinion (Twins, Vikings, Wolves, Wild, Gophers) | Sportswire: Minnesota Twins The fact that Bruno found a hitch in his swing and he immediately started hitting is a good sign that the new Brian Dozier is here to stay.
  14. Given their respective histories, I tend to fall on the side of Justin Morneau on this one. Hunter has repeatedly said moronic (and I mean MORONIC) things to the media. One can only imagine the crap he has said to teammates. And generally, I like Hunter.
  15. Also, I consider it a pretty massive gaff on Ryan's part that Justin didn't already make it through waivers. No one would have claimed him in the first few days of August. Now, it's a very different story. Even some of the crappier teams might claim him just for the hell of it.
  16. If Justin lands on another team, that's the team I'll be cheering for in the playoffs. Unless it's the Yankees. I can't cheer for them under any circumstances. And maybe the Red Sox. I hate them, too.
  17. Neither one is a draw. I won't argue that. But Correia is a legit MLB player. Walters is not.
  18. Well, he had another 30 game stretch this season with an OPS around .850. It's not all smoke and mirrors.
  19. We're talking about the PJ Walters with an ERA of 5.94 and almost 12 hits allowed per nine innings, right? That PJ Walters?
  20. Shush, Dave. He's amazing.
  21. I haven't been over there in ages. Given how this season is playing out, I'm surprised they haven't burned the place to the ground yet.
  22. Hey now, you're mis-representing my point a bit. I was against picking up long-term top-shelf (or even mid-shelf) free agents last season because of timing. Given the progression of Gibson, Arcia, and Dozier and the continued romp through MiLB of Sano, Rosario, et al, I think it's time to start looking into the free agent crop and seeing if anyone is interested in coming to Minnesota. I'm okay with not picking up a top shelf guy this offseason but I'm not against them doing it, either... And, at the very latest, they should be *very aggressive* in the free agent market 16 months from now. By that time, this farm system should be showing some promise on the MLB roster.
  23. That's true. There's absolutely no reason to do anything other than walk Stanton in 95% of his ABs.
  24. Eh, I wouldn't... But I'd strongly consider a Hicks + Prospect package. If acquiring an outfielder, I'd limit the prospects to outfielders (at least as the primary piece). Stanton is mighty impressive but let's not ignore that he hasn't looked nearly as good this season. If he was posting another 140 OPS+ season and would agree to an extension as part of the trade package, I might even give up Buxton. But not Sano, Rosario, or a pitcher. The Twins badly need those players going forward. Sano isn't a given to stick at third but considering the scouting reports surrounding him in the past 12 months, I think it's pretty likely that he spends a good chunk of his pre-arb and arb seasons at the position.
