  1. I just wish people would stop believing Joe's attitude stems from him not caring. In my opinion, everything he does stems from just how much he cares. He's a baseball machine. Nothing good comes from screaming and yelling; good comes from preparation and learning from mistakes. I honestly believe that Joe Mauer might be the smartest player in baseball. People are too distracted by antics and bravado to see just how nearly perfect he is as the player he *wants* to be. He has done things that NO PLAYER has done before. What, and we're going to dig at him for not hitting more dingers? Grow up and look at the modern game. Seriously.
  2. James Loney has a career .760 OPS. Yeah, pretty much exactly like Joe. (minus 110 OPS points)
  3. That simply isn't the type of thing you can scout. A player doesn't get enough cold weather starts playing in Miami to make a definitive statement one way or the other. Plus, it's two starts playing for a new team. No need to get worried... yet.
  4. That's strange. I have read/unread stored in the database. What device you're using shouldn't matter because the server is pulling info from the database according to your user id. I'll look into it.
  5. I love baseball because of guys like Colabello. I thought he was crazy to turn down the Asian offers he received this offseason. Now look at him. Wonderful.
  6. I'd probably trade Eades. Eh, I'd almost certainly trade Eades.
  7. End of April at the earliest. Bullpens are volatile creatures; it's bad form to cast judgment on the 3-5 innings a single guy might get in two weeks' time.
  8. Personal opinion: if you don't find anything funny about a JFK assassination joke... Seriously. 51 years ago. We run a tight ship here at TD but it's not a convent.
  9. Honest question. Where and why do you expect Florimon to improve? He's good defensively, not going to improve much there. He's bad offensively and has been his entire career. He actually was a WORSE hitter as 2013 progressed. He's 27 years old. What improvement does anyone see in him as a player?
  10. Damn. I was really pulling for Fryer.
  11. Yeah. Yeah. At this point, I'm surprised Detroit hasn't picked him up. It doesn't make sense for the Twins to sign him, as unfortunate as that is.
  12. It's not a knee jerk reaction. Going into the season, Florimon had south of a 5% chance of posting an acceptable OPS. The fact that he's not doing it is the opposite of shocking. Imagine the (quite valid) consternation over Suzuki put toward someone even more deserving.
  13. I'm almost certain you're wrong.
  14. Trying to explain announcers to non baseball fans. Said that Vin Scully announcing the play by play of you having sex while you're having sex would actually improve your performance while having sex. Maybe I'm drunk but that sounds like the most accurate description of Vin Scully's voice.
  15. Pretty much certain - well, at least 99.74% certain - that's the primary cause of my confusion.
  16. Something happened. The Twins are no longer pitching but the score is the same. Not joking. A little confused.
  17. I'm not one to talk up what I'm doing but crikey, I earned this one.
  18. I'm lounging in a pool in St Maarten, drinking about a gallon of rum, and watching baseball. This doesn't suck. Also, need more rum.
  19. Suzuki being anywhere near the top of the lineup is ulcer-inducing. I think we can all agree that is just silly. As for Hicks, I'd like to see him end the season at the top of the lineup. Whether that happens in May or July, I'll wait it out to cast judgment. Right now, he doesn't belong there and should be protected a bit in the lineup, both hitting- and expectation-wise.
  20. I think you just let things sit pat for another week or two. Let Mauer and Willingham loosen up and see if they start hitting. No need for knee-jerk reactions after one series in pretty miserable weather.
  21. I think Hicks needs to stay right where he is until he builds up enough confidence and consistency to move up the lineup. Let the kid get into a groove.
  22. I've been combing through the site in various browsers in recent days, trying to square away a few of the niggling bugs I know are out there. Now that this design is ~13 months old, browsers have updated enough where new bugs might have popped up that I don't know about yet. If you see one, post about it here. Please, don't veer this thread off-track. I'm going to sticky it here for a few weeks.
  23. Yep. You just can't trust a bullpen year-to-year. The only way to overcome the ups and downs of bullpens is through sheer quantity of arms. Thankfully, I think the Twins have a pretty decent stable of quality arms. Over the course of the season, they'll figure it out but the first few weeks could be ugly while that happens. Then again, that applies to pretty much every team in baseball.
  24. Heh, yes, a bit funny. They also used their legal expertise to help explain the situation and they're big baseball geeks as well... So, win-win all around! Glad to have them on board with Twins Daily!
