  1. Yeah, only a couple of games but he looks like a different player. My point is that people shouldn't discount a rookie for one atrocious season.
  2. Yeah, when people were saying "Hicks will never be better than average, he only has a slim chance of being average at all", it was hard for my eyes not to roll right out of my head. Yeah, he was bad. Yeah, it was unfortunate. That doesn't mean his immense talent suddenly disappeared. /wishes people were more patient with prospects
  3. At least they've run up 70 pitches on Paulino through three innings.
  4. Pedro Florimon: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d3/Golden_Eagle_eye.jpg
  5. Just the guy you want up in this situation.
  6. I like Correia on the mound today. He probably has the best shot outside of Nolasco to buckle down against the elements and use it to his advantage.
  7. And the same applies to the Ramos trade from the Nationals standpoint. Both were no-brainers from one perspective, completely baffling from the other.
  8. Worley wasn't the only guy in the trade. He wasn't even the centerpiece of the trade. The point is that if you have a limited upside guy (Matt Capps, Ben Revere) and are offered someone with higher upside in return (Trevor May, Wilson Ramos), you make that trade 100% of the time and roll the dice on health/improvement from that upside player. As for Worley, the Twins needed warm bodies who could pitch in the major leagues. Should they have scouted Worley a little more thoroughly? Absolutely... But nobody expected the kind of implosion we saw from him. Not after two productive seasons in a small ballpark, not at age 25.
  9. Just as the Twins should make the May/Worley trade 11 times out of 10, the Nationals should make the Ramos trade 11 times out of 10. One can't predict injury but that's a roll of the dice you take every time because the upside of Ramos was so much higher than the upside of Capps. So it didn't work out amazingly well for the Nationals because Ramos can't stay on the field. Big deal. It was a smart move for the Nationals and a dumb move for the Twins.
  10. Still wasn't happy with the speed, figured out how to up the cache limit size. I'm gonna fix this, damn it.
  11. Eh, sometimes a veteran needs to get himself into mental shape along with the physical. I think too many put too much stock in what a player says after a game, particularly the first game of the season. Nolasco has been through this rodeo many times in the past. I'm sure he knows what he did wrong yesterday and is more critical of his performance than anyone on this forum (anyone reasonable, anyway). If he wants to take away the things he did right and shrug off the things he did badly, more power to him. He gets to toe the rubber 30+ more times this season, no point in beating himself up for a mostly bad opening day start.
  12. That's going to happen on a fairly regular basis, which is why three guys can't carry a lineup. This offense needs at least 2-3 more capable bats than they currently have on the roster.
  13. Except that moving the runner over didn't matter one bit. Down three runs, the team needed baserunners.
  14. I did a double-take when Escobar was announced and then remembered "Oh that's right. Ron Gardenhire is the manager." Harrumph. Not the best move possible, that's for sure.
  15. Same here, though our traffic is considerably lower today. I don't think we'll see the server stressed until tomorrow, maybe not until Monday morning.
  16. Thanks, jb. Most of the time, it's pretty fun work to maintain and build the site but every once in a while, we run into a situation like this caching issue that makes me want to put my fist through the computer monitor.
  17. In my never-ending quest to keep this site running, I have implemented new server-side caching. Hopefully, this will help cure some of the site's woes when traffic hits its peak during game times and between 9am-11am Central time. If you continue to see slowdowns, let me know in this thread. I'll get more aggressive with the settings if this isn't enough to keep the site stable during our busy hours. Forum software is a &^*%. Normally, one would just cache the entire site along with its database tables but one can't do that with a forum, as the database is adding/deleting fields every few seconds.
  18. I don't tend to latch onto players but I've been bullish on Arcia for years. He's probably my favorite now, though Hicks is close. It's too easy to cheer for Joe. He's inhumanly good at baseball which takes a bit of the fun out of cheering for him.
  19. Tumblr is where animated gifs of movie scenes go to die.
  20. Cable companies. They're paying teams absurd amounts to keep local coverage a monopoly and force users into buying cable packages.
  21. Ah, that makes more sense. It's a good thing for Drew, not necessarily the Tigers.
  22. Excluding Mauer, that number would be: Uh... Carry the one... Move the decimal... 0.
  23. Am I reading this correcly? The Tigers no longer have to forfeit a pick because the season has started?
