  1. I actually like the top of the lineup just fine how it is. Dozier's OBP continues to climb, Mauer is a fantastic second hitter, Plouffe had done well enough in the third spot, and Kubel/Colabello have performed in cleanup.
  2. This might be the worst half inning of baseball I've ever seen.
  3. He was confused about the importance of OBP. And that it was a good thing. And, it seemed for a moment, what it was in the first place.
  4. Sometimes, I wonder if Gladden has ever watched a baseball game, much less played one.
  5. Brian Dozier. Strong like bull. Bull with beautiful, flowing mane.
  6. I didn't even look at the author of this thread. I just mattered "Oh christ, Dave." when I saw the title.
  7. I still think he's better than that. Every start has been plagued by one bad inning mixed into nearly-unhittable baseball. And Tonkin really screwed over his stat line in that last start. Still not good but not as awful as it looked on paper.
  8. In the case of a doubleheader on a cold day, I think it's a solid plan. You want Colabello's bat out there for game two.
  9. Both. The back of my mind is starting to honestly believe this team has a shot at 75+ wins. Colabello, Kubel, and possibly Dozier/Plouffe will cool off a bit but they're all looking like legit MLB hitters. Going into the season, I was only comfortable saying that about Dozier. And I think any drop-off from that group can be offset by rotation improvement. Gibson is overperforming but everybody has been pretty shaky, something I don't expect to see all season.
  10. Joe Mauer should have hit a dinger there. 11 pitch single to right. Unacceptable.
  11. You really need to stop rebutting my posts with arguments I haven't made. Refer to the forum rules, that is clearly against TD commenting policy. I have not advocated trading Dozier. Not once. I think it's ridiculous to even consider trading him at this point and I've said as much. If Rosario comes on strong next season and can stick at second, then it's a different argument. Florimon may be the best defensive shortstop in years but he's also the worst offensive shortstop we've seen since Juan Castro. Combine those two elements and you have a not-very-good baseball player. It's impossible to not see the logical fallacy in this argument.
  12. Yep, and after a cursory glance, it appears that he's missin' lots and lots of bats.
  13. Fun fact: Brian Dozier's lowest single season batting average is .234. Pedro Florimon's highest single season batting average is .221.
  14. That'd be a real shot in the arm if May suddenly figured it out and stopped walking people.
  15. That was some serious veteran presence by the Stylin' Hawaiian.
  16. My second favorite play in baseball, but only when it happens in the fifth inning.
  17. The fourth inning sacrifice bunt. My favorite play in baseball.
  18. If Plouffe is really an .800 OPS hitter, you don't bench that guy. You give him a position or you trade him to someone who will give him a position.
  19. This is what I said: This is what you said: Dozier is an above average hitter. You're the only person who continues to bring up his batting average as if that is the only attribute that makes a player a good hitter or not. Yes, his batting average is low. Every other trait of hitting is well above average, including his overall line as a hitter.
  20. 1. Florimon isn't even in the same league defensively as the Wizard. 2. Ozzie Smith turned the corner in his age 27 season, posting an OPS+ that Florimon hasn't approached and that hasn't changed thus far this season.
  21. "Hitting" is not synonymous with "batting average". Batting average is one aspect of hitting. There is also power and discipline, which Dozier has shown both this season and the majority of last season.
  22. To me, the magic OPS number is around .640-.650. And I'm skeptical that he'll ever reach that number. I'm actually skeptical that he'll OPS over .600 this season. After a decent start to 2013, he only OPSed around .575 the rest of the season.
  23. I just don't see the point in defending him. He's very good defensively and very bad offensively. He's not a young prospect. He hasn't hit at any level. There just isn't much upside in him as a player. Why defend that guy?
  24. This. Florimon will not continue to hit this badly... but that doesn't mean he will hit at an acceptable level, either.
