  1. Can't argue with most of it but Perkins at a B+ and Dozier at a B? Come on. That's absurd. Perkins, A- and Dozier, A. Dozier is on his way to a 5 WAR season, for crying out loud.
  2. I also agree about the first three. Since I could only choose one, I went with Mauer.
  3. I *really* don't want to see Herrmann on the 25 man again. I think the most logical solution is for Ryan/Antony to tell Gardenhire to get over putting two catchers in the lineup and play Pinto at DH on days he's not catching (not to mention that he should be catching more games). I'm fine with Suzuki being the "starting catcher" but it's time for Josmil to start getting a few more reps behind the plate.
  4. I don't think xFIP is perfect - or anything close to it - but Nolasco has a 4.22 xFIP while Gibson has a 4.68 xFIP. Nolasco has been a mixture of mediocre, kinda bad, and unlucky. Gibson has been a mixture of mediocre, bad, and a bit lucky, as evidenced by his meager 5.5% HR/FB rate.
  5. Wasn't the wind insane that day? I may be thinking of a different game but I seem to recall the wind was blowing insanely hard in the outfield that day. Hicks hasn't been a great - or even good - defender in center but I think some are railing on him far too hard. Yeah, he's been inconsistent in the outfield but almost every play I've seen him botch has him going back, an obvious deficiency in his game right now.
  6. Well, that explains why I never have any issue receiving the transmission. I work in Plymouth, live in north Minneapolis. I was a little confused about the issues receiving KTWN, as it's always crystal clear for me.
  7. I can't possibly believe the Twins would be in on Carbonell. With Buxton on the way, it seems like a questionable use of resources... But hey, if they're not going to spend the money somewhere, why not Carbonell? (in a perfect world, I'd prefer to see them dive into the FA market this offseason and patch a hole that way, whatever hole that might be)
  8. More than a little ironic that he played for years alongside Rivera but only after leaving the team did Phil start to pitch like him.
  9. In a perfect world, we see Gardy start rotating Pinto into the catching spot 40+% of the time as Suzuki wears down... Then, some time around the ASG, we see Vargas get the call if he keeps raking. OF of Willingham, Arcia, Parmelee, and Hicks (Fuld?) with Pinto/Vargas rotating through the DH and catcher spots. Maybe Vargas occasionally spells Mauer at first.
  10. Two hurricanes in one week? Damn, Brian. What did Philadelphia ever do to you?
  11. I wonder how much of this aggressiveness is the result of playing under Rick Anderson. Hughes has become a strike-throwing machine and we all know how Anderson feels about strike-throwing machines, even ones that don't throw very good strikes.
  12. I didn't realize hurricane-force winds tore through Philadelphia yesterday. My condolences go out to those families whose homes were ravaged by Hurricane (Revere?) last night.
  13. Complete collapses are a lot less likely when you have two pitchers in the rotation that are above average. IMO, that's the big difference between this year and the last two seasons.
  14. Yep. It's my opinion that a person isn't really a baseball fan until they've listened to at least 50 Dodger broadcasts just to hear Vin talk about baseball for a couple of hours. It's probably the best thing about baseball and has been for the past 50+ seasons. Man, to go from Red Barber to Vin. Dodgers fans have it good.
  15. I agree that right now, the Twins really have no choice. Earlier in this thread, I believe I said something along the lines of "it's insane for Hicks to make this adjustment at the MLB level; he needs to be sent down the moment a replacement is available". Right now, there are no replacements available so I guess Hicks gets to do this at the MLB level, at least for awhile.
  16. Pretty sure that rule was enacted after a guy in the teens (or possibly 20s) stole second base, then stole first, then stole second again. I seem to recall that's how it happened. It was really bizarre. edit: seems that it was somewhat common back in the day:
  17. You just described the main reason why I didn't want him to give up on switch-hitting at all. The learning curve is going to be enormous for Aaron in the next several months. Can he do it? I have no idea but it seems that he'd be best served by doing it in Rochester, not Target Field.
  18. If they were, Barry Bonds would have more rings than fingers.
  19. I don't think they're cliche at all. As more players play the game, more will reach the 3,000 mark. That doesn't dilute the mark, that just means more people have played baseball.
  20. Fangraphs has him at 65 WAR. Still enough to get consideration, particularly because he's still going so strong, having accumulated 25 WAR in his past four seasons. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=639&position=3B If he does this for another few years, I don't see how he doesn't get him. He has been sneaky-good for a long time.
  21. I believe it's misguided (more like insane, really) to expect Hicks to learn how to hit from one side of the plate against MLB pitchers. He needs to go down to Rochester the moment the Twins can find a suitable replacement.
  22. ^This. It would be easy for the Twins to game the system for up to a month until they had to make a decision about Fuld.
  23. I don't know if most people expected him to be as bad as he was but given his bat profile, it was pretty clear that he wasn't going to cut it at short. The guy didn't have a single redeeming trait of your typical shortstop. Of course, things changed somewhat once his bat came around a bit.
  24. You're strawmanning my argument. Ryan's passivity during the Twins' years when they posted 94, 90, 92, 83, 96, and 79 wins is nothing like Moore trying to catapult a team from 72 wins to the 90+ wins it takes to make the playoffs. The Twins were already a good team. They won 90 games four times during that stretch of play and never won less than 79, which is still seven more games than the Royals won in 2012. I've said multiple times in this thread that if you have an 85 win team, go for it if you need one more piece. You're trying to saddle me with an argument I never made.
  25. You're doing just fine. Thanks for responding.
