  1. I was a touch more optimistic, hoping Kepler, Buxton, Berrios, & Co would be positive contributors. Only Kepler has met that goal and he's falling off a cliff in real time. I had them at 81-83, I think. Basically, improving enough to make up for the luck of last season, give or take a few games.
  2. This is how I read the article as well. It's a cautionary tale and a reminder that movement is not synonymous with progress. The trait I most want in a GM is intelligence, not perpetual motion. Sometimes, the hardest decision is the one that requires you to sit on your hands and wait it out.
  3. Yeah. I could see this team winning anywhere between 75-85 games depending on how things broke with a few players, especially the young guys. No one reasonable saw this season coming. Waaaaayyyy too many negative contributions up and down the roster.
  4. "And that's just the American League" is misleading. The AL is stacked with second base talent. The NL is not. Ranked by WAR, the best NL second baseman would be fourth in the AL. The second best NL second baseman would be seventh in the AL.
  5. The fact that Duffey is a starter and May a reliever makes me want to drink bleach. This team.
  6. As I've said before I'm in no rush to trade Dozier but what is better? 1. Dozier at second, Polanco at short, and a below replacement level starting pitcher. Let's say Dozier is a 5-6 WAR player. Polanco is a 2-3 WAR player. The starting pitcher is a -1 WAR player. That's 6 WAR on the low end of things. 2. Polanco at second, Escobar at short, and a promising 2-4 WAR starting pitcher. Polanco is a 2-3 WAR player. Escobar is a 2-3 WAR player. The starter is a 2-4 WAR player. We, again, end up at 6 WAR but I think the second result nets you more wins. It's a matter of finding that promising young pitcher, which isn't easy to do. Teams are loathe to trade that guy in most cases.
  7. And that's fair, I guess. I simply don't care very much and would rather see Vargas worked into the lineup more frequently. ABW is quite a ways down my list of priorities.
  8. I'm really pulling for an Andrew Albers start in this game.
  9. Ah, I stand corrected. Seth had him at #10 but he never made the top 10 Twins Daily list.
  10. The Pierzynski/Mauer comp is terrible. Mauer was the consensus #1 prospect in baseball, a nearly flawless prospect at age 21. 2016 Jorge Polanco is not 2004 Joe Mauer.
  11. Top 10 prospect lists don't mean a whole lot and ABW was always a fringe entry on those lists. He never made Seth's top 10 list, peaking at #11 after the Twins graduated several players. For example, ABW has never made Sickels' top 150-175 list. He's an interesting prospect, not a highly regarded prospect.
  12. No, in this case "pumpkin" is neither definitive nor accurate. Pumpkins have no value. It's likely Dozier will retain value and quite a bit of it. I want to see Dozier shopped but I won't lose sleep if no one offers fair value and the Twins let him play out the contract.
  13. Given how they're struggling to supply their own needs - for example, the PowerWall is back-ordered like crazy and has been for over a year - I don't believe excess inventory will be a problem for them any time soon. They still have almost 400k of Model 3 preorders to fill as well.
  14. That's a good question, one I don't know off-hand... But I suspect Tesla put in place safeguards to make sure the Gigafactory doesn't supply batteries to their competition, as the Gigafactory is Tesla's ace card in the electric car business.
  15. What you really mean is: "I'd still trade Dozier before he possibly turns back into a 3-4 WAR player, which is still very valuable and above average. But I don't really know if Dozier will turn back into a 3-4 WAR player in the near future or if he'll plateau in the 5-6 WAR range, as none of us have a crystal ball."
  16. Interesting, I hadn't really thought of Panasonic. I suspect the margins will become increasingly thin on batteries but there's a lot of money to be made in that arena. But, given how Panasonic is a pretty massive conglomerate, will the battery business move the needle for them? *shrugs*
  17. Do they really? It's possible the new regime views Polanco as a capable shortstop. There's room for everyone to play if the front office decides to go that route. There's also room to move a guy or two if they feel that's the best course of action.
  18. To be fair, "hope" is one of the few things left to us right now. And, in this case, "hope" is a new, progressive front office coming to Minnesota in a month. Anything done or said now is mostly irrelevant because it's likely an entirely new person (people?) will be running the show come October. And we have absolutely no idea what they plan to do with this team.
  19. I'd prefer they don't say anything, actually. There's a good chance no one on this coaching staff is wearing a Twins uniform when pitchers and catchers report next season. Anything said today may be entirely irrelevant in two months.
  20. Except he was never highly regarded as a prospect by anyone, really. ABW is the type of guy who you keep around, warts and all, and hope he irons out a few of his problems but don't get too upset if he never manages to do it. There's a reason he fell to the third round of the draft.
  21. Coding is definitely different, just an example I have first-hand knowledge of. As for the last paragraph, what happens if Buxton tears it up through high A and then stumbles because there's a hitch in his swing or it's too long? Then you've spent 2+ years allowing a player to entrench a bad habit and have to spend a bunch more time forcing him to unlearn that habit. And that player now has to fix his swing in a shorter period of time and against better competition than if you addressed the problem the moment he entered professional ball. Again, I'm not saying the Twins have done right by Buxton but I generally dislike blanket statements that can be summed up as "the Twins always do this and it's wrong". It's more complicated than that.
  22. The server can only print so many asterisks before it topples. It was a technical decision.
  23. My target would be an expected #2 guy with ace upside. Anything less than that isn't fair value for Dozier. It would have been nice to get an extra year of control when Dozier signed that extension but that contract is looking pretty damned smart right now. Instead of being owed something around $25m over the next two seasons, Dozier will get $15m. That means pretty much any team can take on that contract if they have prospects to give.
  24. But as been said, prep players often have bad habits because their talent allows bad habits to thrive against massively inferior opponents. Is it really "round peg square hole" when amateur mistakes are altered when a person enters the professional arena? For example, I regularly review code from young developers. Does their code technically work? Yes. Does their code play in a professional workflow? Absolutely ****ing not. And we help those developers untrain those terrible habits. It's part of the job to use established knowledge for the benefit of an inexperienced person.
  25. I believe May has thrown bullpen sessions. No one cares about Milone.
