  1. The Twins young OF hitting 7-8-9 today. Ouch. It's the right decision - Buxton has been awful while Kepler and Rosario struggle against LHP - but still ouch.
  2. Can you be more specific? I'm curious to know where you think Molitor has gone wrong with such frequency.
  3. Man, what a difference. Castro is smooth.
  4. I think their game is chaos. Attempting to fracture the US along state lines is a fool's errand. The red states would suffer immediately. The blue states won't secede. But creating dissension and conflict can pay dividends.
  5. Loud outs but the OF defense saved the day... which I wouldn't rule out going forward. With those three roaming the OF, it's possible Hughes can be competent at 90mph. Not good, though.
  6. The entirety of TD, I think. I don't recall a single person predicting anything under 104 wins.
  7. It sure does. "Hey Paul, Jack has some really good ideas. Why don't you sit down and discuss them?"
  8. The lineups are wacky but I love the aggressive idea behind it. Tailoring two lineups, one for righties, the other for lefties, I love it. Moving Buxton down in a prompt fashion, also the smart move. Not a lot to say about the bullpen because they've made him look good no matter what decision he's made but no complaints in that regard, either. Very few bunts, even fewer that weren't attempts to get on base safely. Where the hell was this guy the past two years? This is what we were sold as fans.
  9. What has Hughes' velocity been tonight? I'll watch the game tomorrow but I'm curious how he looks out there.
  10. Nice. I love the aggressive righty/lefty shuffling Molitor is doing this season. Where the hell was this guy the past two seasons?
  11. I just realized Hughes is on the mound tonight. Truly disappointed that I won't be able to watch the game. Heart breaking.
  12. Yep. When I saw Buxton flail hopelessly at a few pitches, then lose the leg kick, then bring it back, that's when I started becoming concerned. It's his process that worries me, not the early results.
  13. In situations like these, I prefer to use league stats over MLB stats. There's just too much noise between the NL and AL data. And the Twins were fifth in both overall walks and BB% (the better stat of the two, IMO) in the AL last season. And that's pretty good overall. As for strikeouts, I think it's six of one, half dozen of the other. Some of the young players certainly struggle with pitch recognition and swing at bad pitches but they're making up that ground at times, laying off pitches at an acceptable rate overall.
  14. I'm meh on their pizza but love their brunch.
  15. Where are you getting this stat? According to MLB.com, the 2016 team was fifth in the AL in overall walks. Fangraphs had them fifth in BB% in the AL as well. The 2016 squad had a ton of flaws but patience wasn't one of them and the team should only improve in that regard for 2017. Subtract Suzuki, add Castro. Subtract Santana playing time, add Kepler. Subtract Escobar playing time, add Polanco. When all is said and done for 2017, it wouldn't surprise me to see this team third- or fourth-best in AL BB%.
  16. Strikeouts are definitely a problem in this lineup, I was merely pointing out that many of the players have acceptable or better walk rates.
  17. I can't speak for the rest of the board but I'm getting tired from all this winning.
  18. Yep, framing can't really be used on a game-by-game basis in comparison to the league because the umpire has such a large influence on the outcomes. I never really considered the importance of "winning the series" from a framing perspective but that's spot-on. The catcher can't control the tendencies of the umpire so in small samples, it makes sense to compare stats to the opposing catcher and "win" that battle. Only after we're a few months into the season can we evaluate league-wide trends.
  19. If managers use that book on this team, I think they'll get burned and change that plan in a hurry. Kepler doesn't swing at everything and will likely swing at less going forward (career .074 isoD). Sano doesn't swing at everything, he just misses a lot when he does swing (career .098 isoD). I think people continually underrate Polanco's patience and I expect him to be one of the pleasant surprises of the season (career .059 isoD). Dozier certainly isn't afraid to take a pitch (.074 isoD). Castro has always been a relatively patient hitter. It's one of his few offensive pluses (.078 isoD). When you get down to it, two guys in the everyday lineup have bad discipline (Buxton and Rosario). And I expect Rosario to take a small step forward in that regard, though he'll never be patient. As for Buxton, he's a complete wildcard. I have no idea what to expect from the guy. Overall, this lineup is pretty patient across the board.
  20. I'll take the over on a .663 OPS for Max. I think he'll struggle through periods of the season but I'm pretty bullish on the kid. I don't know if I'd predict a .770 OPS for him but he's certainly capable of it... if I had a gun to my head, I'd probably put him in the .720-.740 range. A few months of dominant hitting (.800+ OPS) mixed in with some abysmal .600 OPS months as pitchers adjust and take the advantage. I suspect Max will suffer early in the season as opposing managers stack LHP against him, especially if he stays near the top of the lineup.
  21. Duddddde. Your analogy is terrible. Your analogy is akin to an athlete refusing to be alone in the same room as the head of the analytics department because she has a vag. That head of the analytics department has a ****ing job to do. She needs to do it. She deserves respect, the same as any male head of the analytics department. The idea behind Pence's statement is pure patriarchy nonsense. That men can't control themselves. That women aren't peers to be respected as people and are little more than objects that distract us men with their seductive... well, everything. Especially those super-seductive vags. Pence has a job to do. Gender of his colleagues should be irrelevant. The fact that he believes it's not irrelevant tells me all I need to know about his worldview.
  22. Yep. That is why he doesn't view women as PEOPLE. At that point, they become objects, either seductive lures or irresistible male hormone targets. Not people. Not peers. Objects.
  23. 20 more lbs and he would have stumbled around first because we all know Sano can't go to his left.
