  1. They're okay but what's really important is to put the ball on the ground. #gladden
  2. What's a "checkbook"? Is that like Tinder?
  3. I'm of the opinion Buxton should bunt more often if the defense is giving him first base. I don't care if Buxton has a .500 or .900 OPS. If you can get on base, do it. Because, as we just saw, Buxton should be able to take second almost at will.
  4. Going into today's game, Twins starters have 20 strikeouts. Byron Buxton has 17.
  5. Someone needs to hand Sano a book on Newton's three laws.
  6. Pretty much everyone I know feels this way, except my dog. Though her faith may be wavering, as it turns out that sometimes I *don't* throw the stick and instead hide it behind my back.
  7. Is it just me or has Rosario been taking slightly better plate appearances this season? He's not getting the results but it appears he's doing some of the things we want him to do long term.
  8. True, that pitch coming across the plate into a lefty's sight line is a pretty appealing pitch to hit.
  9. Ah, good point. I forgot that Gameday went to hell yesterday.
  10. On that we agree. I'm not giving Gibson a pass for the grand slam pitch, I'm merely saying it wasn't the most egregious mistake of the inning. The entire inning was a mix of Gibson getting cute and completely losing his feel for the strike zone. That meant lots of throwaway pitches, a lack of putaway pitches, and just general tomfoolery all around. And that's on Gibson. He was flat-out rolling up to that point. He needs to find a way to stay on track and not fall prey to a big inning in a game where he should cruise through seven innings.
  11. I'm too lazy to look up a heat map for Romine but the ball wasn't only low, it was both low and inside the strike zone. That pitch is called a ball almost every time, which means it's probably a pretty hard pitch to hit.* *under normal umpiring rules, that pitch was a ball... with yesterday's ump, it could have been anything
  12. Yep and yep. If it requires the Twins to hire a Special Assistant to Byron Buxton, someone who also specializes in Cranial-Anus Removal Programs, then that's what needs to be done. The Twins could literally be leaving a hundred million dollars on the table here. Dedicating resources from a run-of-the-mill employee seems like a no-brainer.
  13. Yep, and it bothers the hell out of me, both with Buxton and the coaching staff. This is the kind of problem that should last about 30 seconds. Byron Buxton is the most important player in the Twins organization. If getting him to produce requires Rowson to follow him around and nag him from dawn to dusk, then that's what needs to happen. If Buxton doesn't listen - and there's no reason to think that's the case - then the coaching staff needs to make him listen.
  14. You have no idea how much it hurt to type that post.
  15. Basically, Buxton is looking at the shortstop when the ball crosses the plate. Reynolds' compares Buxton to video of the Rockies' Arenado, who follows the ball right over the plate and stares it down as he swings.
  16. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
  17. In case I wasn't clear, I fully agree. The inaccuracy of MLB Gameday should have no bearing on our opinion of in-stadium pitch tracking by MLB. It means Gameday is flawed. My post is to highlight the inaccuraries of Gameday, not the concept of electronic pitch tracking.
  18. In no way do I mean to imply that was a good pitch, only that it was a hard-ish pitch to hit. Anytime you have a pitch that is both low and inside, credit should go to the hitter for making that hard of contact with the ball. Read into that what you will. Basically, I guess I'm giving credit to Romine and neutral on Gibson.
  19. Sometimes hitters hit pitches they shouldn't. Maybe that wasn't your argument, I'm not sure, but Romine deserves a lot of credit for that swing. But there's plenty to complain about with Gibson's fourth inning overall. He put himself in that situation, one where a good swing put Detroit into a commanding lead... I think focusing on Romine's grand slam is letting the tail wag the dog. If Gibson doesn't put up a clownshoe performance leading up to Romine, that (good) swing means the Twins are up 3-1 or 3-2 and all is fine and well.
  20. I think that's a rather backwards way to look at it, though teams may believe that's beneficial. It's hard to put a price on consistency, the impact a stable brand has on a population. I seriously doubt the Pittsburgh Penguins worry about their year-over-year jersey sales, yet they've had basically the same logo since dinosaurs roamed the earth. They tried to change it once and everyone basically said "no" so they changed it back.
  21. No reason to apologize. More than any other sport, temperance is needed in baseball fandom. It becomes tiring to hear over-the-top wailing a half dozen games into a 162 game season. There are lots of productive things to talk about with this team, issues that need to be resolved if the team is going to post an acceptable record this season... but flailing about after a guy has one bad game isn't productive most of the time. One game is literally 0.006% of a season.
  22. FWIW, MN United still has the best logo in town and it's not close. They should never, ever, ever change that logo. It's as close to perfection as a logo can get. I'd put the Twins "TC" icon second on that list. The Vikings and Wolves have the same problem: they keep chasing the tail of pop culture and creating throwaway logos that become dated in a few years. The Wild are too new to really comment but their logo is acceptable. The colors are already dated, though, a throwback to the 90s when desaturated primaries and secondaries were all the rage.
  23. It's... okay, I guess. I'd like it better if it didn't look so much like the Coyotes logo: http://logodatabases.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/phoenix-coyotes-hockey-logo.jpg Their original logo is still the best, IMO. And I'd like the new logo better if they went back to the original color scheme and not that neon ****. Pro sports teams, here's a tip for your graphics departments: stop using throwaway, culturally-hot-but-soon-to-look-dated, colors in your ****ing logos. Create something iconic, something you'll use for 50 years, not a dozen. Notice how many times the Lakers and Yankees revise their logos. Pretty much every day, amirite?
