  1. While I hate MLB video content rules and blackouts, their radio policy seems pretty reasonable. The problem with advertising is twofold: you need to hire people to pursue and implement the ads and the return on revenue needs to exceed that infrastructure cost. In this case, I doubt that's possible so they charge a flat $20. I'd be surprised if there's more than a few thousand people streaming Twins audio from the app. And a few thousand people aren't going to bring in advertisers or make it possible to charge enough to break even on the deal, much less profit.
  2. Hate the name.
  3. Started watching Shetland on Netflix. I'm two episodes in and absolutely love it. It's basically a Scottish Broadchurch.
  4. To the Scottish, Riverbairn would be something completely different and more than a little bit weird.
  5. FTR, I lobbied for Twins Anonymous.
  6. I never knew he was such a vehement enemy of our local waterways.
  7. To give a short and sweet answer: sabermetrics is also about scoring runs, they simply analyze in the aggregate to counter "old housewives' tales". No one is trying to say that sac flies don't matter. As sabermetrics advance, they don't counteract every "old school" baseball theory, in fact they reaffirm some of them such as pitch framing. But there are many old, bad ideas in baseball. And sabr tries to move past some of those bad ideas. One of those bad ideas was that walks are both the fault of the pitcher and are relatively worthless from an offensive standpoint.
  8. Sit down, prole, you're clogging my view of the game thread.
  9. It's so Kaufman-esque that I approve.
  10. How much is Mauer paid again? I forget.
  11. I can't believe I missed this post earlier, as it's excellent. This is really the point I'm trying to drive home: if a middle of the order hitter "punts" on his plate appearance by adding another runner to the base paths with a walk, that's a good thing. The assumption has to be that the middle of the order doesn't fall from a .900 OPS player to a .500 OPS player; the player hitting behind Mauer now has *at least* two runners on base. That's a good situation.
  12. FIFY. Hard to blame Molitor for 13 pitchers and his bench, though. Unless he asked for this to happen, at which point it's entirely his fault.
  13. I may be a little bit bored today: http://rocketpig.net/temp/bb8.gif
  14. Gandalf the Many-Colored! I suspect Stormtroopers are white simply because it films better. It's easy to make a stark profile in white, not so easy in black.
  15. True, but I had speculated that's what the film is about before trailer released. It makes sense given the title. I never thought the Jedi would die, I thought the order would likely move on in some capacity. They already dangled that idea with the Sith/Knights of Ren. It makes sense the Jedi would react similarly.
  16. So we have Luke at the original Jedi temple, Rey pouring over an ancient manuscript with a lightsaber symbol, the title "The Last Jedi", Rey's lightsaber combining blue/red, and I think we have the makings of a film that's going to do one of two things: 1. Explore the origins of the Jedi Order and what came before it 2. A shift away from the dogmatic light/dark principles of the prequels Order
  17. Hah! Definitely intentional! I earned my geek card today. This was released a few minutes ago:
  18. I'm glad someone finally brought up Buxton's playing time. I was harping on that last season. I believe it has been a real impediment to him progressing as a hitter.
  19. Watched one episode, was glad we didn't have bleach in the house afterward.
  20. Yeah, it's pretty funny. I believe that poster was mostly discarded and instead Fox used this poster, which is a lot more accurate regarding the look of the cast. But that star still stands out to me in the trailer. It's so similar that has to be intentional.
  21. To be clear, in no way am I suggesting Grossman will ever be a "good" outfielder, only that it's possible he can be "acceptably bad" out there once every week or two, not "disastrously bad".
  22. I hadn't dug into Sano's stats this season but this is what my eyes were telling me as well. The guy is hitting the pitches he should and laying off the pitches he can't. Given Sano's strength, that in itself could catapult him into elite status.
  23. I like the balance argument. It's fun. But I just refuse to read too much into any trailer with that little action in it. It's a bunch of teasing without much meat on the bone. Of all things, this is what stood out to me the most: Because I immediately thought of this:
